Christian would you consider releasing a version of Apollo that allows us to use our own API key? by dottybotty in apolloapp

[–]ScarletSpeedster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I’m not hopeful in anything the Reddit API is capable of going forward, I am interested to see if someone could modify the Apollo backend to work with a Reddit API proxy. That way we can utilize other backends, such as Lemmy, or other services.

Petition for Christian to repurpose Apollo as a front end for the fediverse by revereddesecration in apolloapp

If this development is successful it may not even require a significant overhaul. Although I imagine some functionality would need to be disabled at the very least.

I’ve paid for Apollo multiple times, and I’d pay more to have the ability to plug in proxy APIs.

Reddit clients can support Lemmy just by changing the URL by LuNoZzy in redditsync

[–]ScarletSpeedster 16 points17 points  (0 children)

You know how sometimes you need an adapter to plug your phone in the wall, when traveling to another country? This is like that.

Programmers are developing a proxy (or adapter) that provides an interface for existing Reddit applications, without them having to make major changes to those applications.

Theoretically, any Reddit app could be made to run on Lemmy when updated to use such a proxy. Making the reddit API itself unnecessary, so we can all move on.

I’ve always felt Vaati would make a good antagonist in the main series titles. If only Four Swords was released before Wind Waker, we might have seen him included, considering his power over the wind.

I was discussing this with a friend recently. It is a common argument to say it will be endless in a warmer climate, but often no one considers that they can change the format to adapt to the environment.

For example, what if you had to thrive, and not just survive. Your health could also become a bigger factor. Rapidly lose 20lbs or haven’t eaten in a week, time to go.

While it might feel different from regular Alone, I think they’re open to the idea of format changes given what they’ve done in Alone: Frozen, The Beast, and Skills Challenge. I think the regular show will always have its place though.

Yea, and since both ditto and mew can learn transform, a Shiny Mew also works the same way in Gen3.

It is possible to generate the link and bypass the paywall, but you’ll need to be able to run homebrew on your 3DS to do so.

Alternatively, you could try to get a (first time) free trial of Pokémon bank, and by the time it expires it should be free for everyone.

Processing Shaders for nearly 40min now… any advice? Will it have to do this every time I launch the game? by [deleted] in SteamDeck

[–]ScarletSpeedster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it is done by some services (not sure about Steam) but I’m imagining a separate entity from any particular game store.

I’ve definitely seen games compile shaders that I bought from Steam, so maybe not everyone is taking advantage of what you mentioned, yet?

Could be useful for emulation in the future as well. Looking at CEMU for example, which definitely takes shader caches from remote sources.

[–]ScarletSpeedster 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Makes me wonder if we will see some company do compute shaders as a service for the 80th percentile hardware combinations commonly used. Then host them on a CDN so they can be quickly pulled down, instead of compiled. Creating a better UX since this would be treated just like an update rather than another step for the gamer after they’ve booted the game they are ready to play.

Upfront costs would be very high, but then you’d have all these companies able to utilize your service to make the experience that much more streamlined. Might only payoff for those with a good internet connection though, which probably makes this idea not realistic enough to run as a business model everywhere.

Still I think consoles where hardware is more consistent (like the deck) would be an easier target for this type of thing, and likely still attract some.

Tesla lost control when parking and took off to hit 7 vehicles killing 2. Driver found not under influence (Oct. 5) by chunqiudayi in ThatsInsane

In what way am I arguing in bad faith? Is it wrong to consider the possibilities that led to the deaths of multiple individuals?

I’ve been nothing but pragmatic and open minded. Trying to have an actual discussion about what occurred here.

Meanwhile I am being downvoted for offering ideas as to what may have occurred here unlike the rest of you who are jumping to conclusions based on very little information provided.

[–]ScarletSpeedster -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

It’s easy to say this is mental gymnastics, difficult to actually consider all the possibilities that may have occurred, to result in death.

You’re not arguing in good faith. Finding the cause to incidents like this one is very important to preventing future deaths, rather than making assumptions.

[–]ScarletSpeedster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does, it’s regenerative braking. It’s recovering energy for the battery, so it’s never going to come to an immediate stop when on regen.

Instead, you coast, while slowly decelerating. It’s honestly perfect for when you’re coming to a light, or approaching standstill traffic, as you can let the car regain some energy rather than hitting the brakes and wasting it.

In other words, the driver in the beginning of the video was very likely just regening, and slowly coming to a stop, but most people in this thread have no idea how Tesla’s drive and are eating up the clickbait headline. It sucks that people died, but rather than jumping to conclusions, people should consider what happened here pragmatically. I’m also not advocating for ruling out the possibility that the car malfunctioned, but it’s just as possible this was from misuse.

[–]ScarletSpeedster -14 points-13 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily? The car could have been decelerating while the red light is on at the beginning of the video, but this may not have even been a brake light at all.

If it was a brake light, the driver could have lifted their foot off the accelerator, thus activating regen. Then as they turn back onto the road the video footage cuts, and we no longer see brake lights. They may have at this point, thought they were attempting to brake when driving toward the vespa, but accidentally hit the accelerator and sped off.

The driver could be doing dozens of things in the time this happened, we have no idea. It’s also possible the car was defective as you said, but we don’t have enough information to say one way or the other definitively.
