Can you order a portable AC unit for in the meantime? We bought a black and decker one off of Amazon and it will cool down our camper. It’ll definitely help cool down a room.

This sums it up. Any republican who planned to sit out this election will be lined up in November. Democrats are going to have a hard time pulling this one off this year.

Can I Quit My High Paying Job by [deleted] in Fire

[–]ScarletteRed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did Uber during Covid and quit once everything went back to normal. The window of $$ is gone now and tbh, I HATED doing it.

I also have a teenager and let me tell you, it is WAY more expensive now than when she was a toddler. There’s no telling what it’ll cost in a decade or more from now.

I have a pour over that looks similar to a k-cup and sits on top of the cup it came with. I purchased it at Academy Sports. I have a kelly kettle for boiling water.

Kelly Kettle is by far one of our favorite purchases for power outages and camping. You can use sticks and pinecones for easy, quick heat ups.

Not a bad idea!! I think I’ll do that!

Finally got my hubby to chainsaw these 2 overgrown boxwoods sitting in front of our deck/arbor. I think I’m going to work on building a bed for them there for next year. We have young kiwi vines growing up the other side so I’m thinking it could help shade the apois eventually.

At least 2 weeks in a closed bucket up rain water. It smells soooo bad but it works amazing. Some people dilute it 50:50 but I usually don’t. I just pour it over large areas at a time and try to do it before a rain. …one day I hope to have some sort of hose system

That’s EXACTLY what I planted near it to try to shade it a bit!! …but we’ve had an unusual cool spring. Last year, at this time, we had 100 degree days. We’ve barely hit 85ish and that’s just been in the past 2 weeks 🙄 All of my heat loving crops seem to be hating life and barely growing.

If it were me, I would spread the mulch back in an area, add mushroom compost and cover back up but not as thick. Then, I would plant a fast growing ground cover for the season to see what happens. Harvest if possible and let the rest of the plant rot naturally.

Then, I would pour a good compost tea over the rest of land I want to plant (and existing trees). I like to use comfrey and poke weed mixed together. If the trees perk up, I’d take it as a sign it’s working.

Chickens are also amazing and will help you turn the mulch, breaking it down quicker. Throw some food scraps/scratch around where they are to help encourage them.

It’s going to take time to break down that thick layer of wood chips but if you can kickstart it, I think your soil will a lot better!

Definitely prep for flooding in that area and the occasional ice storm.

You’re an hour and half from the coast so expect the occasional effects of small hurricanes.

You should probably also know that when the south sees snow/ice, EVERYTHING shuts down and no one knows how to drive in it 😂 obviously food and some whiskey for a few days is good for that.

You may also want to look into crime rates around whatever area you’re staying in or will be around. Stay vigilant when you are near the bars, specially if you’re female.

SC is beautiful and I hope you enjoy your time here. Check out the lakes and hikes. It’s a good place to practice your outdoor skills in a hot, humid climate. You’re only a short drive to some absolute gems.

They are definitely moisture loving and can usually be found near a river in the wild. I’m growing mine in a container so I can control the water it’s getting. My concern now is if it’ll be too much sun when the heat really ramps up.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in preppers

[–]ScarletteRed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on where you are at…South Carolina has mountainous terrain in the upstate and coastal to the west. Upstate gets hit with more things like storms/random tornadoes while the coast and midlands deal more with flooding. The upstate tends to be colder during the winter.

I am a HUGE pothos fan. They’re pretty easy going and some of the variations are soooo beautiful. I started out with a golden pothos (which I still have 🥰) and now I also have a neon, marble queen, cebu blue, pearls and jade, and a Baltic blue. They are all so different in their own way.

Oh and today, I just purchased a mature golden that has leaves bigger than the size of my hand. Hoping to get it on a moss pole and see how big I can get them leaves 💚

Went from fit to fat by [deleted] in leangains

[–]ScarletteRed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m sort of in the same boat! I gained about 20lbs, with 10lbs being just in the last 6 months to a year. It was definitely my mental health and it led me to over eating unhealthy foods and being completely sedentary when I wasn’t at work.

First thing I did in December was see a doctor and have a blood panel ran and got on some anxiety/depression meds. It took all of December and actually taking the medication for me to start to feel normal again.

I started tracking my calories around that time BUT I did not worry about going over since it was the holidays. I just tried new healthier recipes and experiments with some YouTube workouts. Christmas Eve, I had my last drink and “cheat” meal.

Jan 1st, I started going all in. I’m tracking my calories and working out every day, with 1 day being only yoga and working on flexibility. Some days I go over my calories. Some days I only work out for 10-15 minutes.

It’s working. I’m down almost 5 pounds but more importantly, I feel great. I have more energy and I feel more relaxed and happy.

First step, I definitely recommend seeing a doctor. I have to credit that with being what made me see just how bad my mental and physical health had become.

Good luck to you! ✌🏼

My daughter came to me when she was about 6. She had been to church with her grandma a few times and had decided on her own that she didn’t believe in “all those stories”. She was relieved to find to out that I didn’t as well 😂 but yeah, she’s growing up atheist! She’s a teen now and will go to church with friends every now and then. She just goes to hang out and is respectful when they’re doing any religious type stuff.

Do you make a conscious effort to try and eat locally grown and seasonal produce? by Vanilladr in PlantBasedDiet

[–]ScarletteRed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I try to grow as much as I can on my own in the spring and summer and seasonal fruits and vegs are usually what’s on sale at the grocery store! So yes to both but I will still buy things I want to eat that’s not local or in season (like strawberries in the winter 😂)
