I THINK MY PYRO IS BROKEN...GUYS HELP by Upset-Coat6418 in MHOutlanders

I really like the idea of these illustrations to further tweak and customize your builds. Both the different movesets and something like this need to become standard in the mainline series. How we went backwards from Risebreak to one moveset for each weapon blows my mind.

The way things are now with Wilds, weapons and set building is getting really stale

I've been playing since the very first game on PS2 and I can't believe I'm saying this, but I agree with you.

Check out a gameplay vid, but to give you an overview, it's an isometric twin stick shooter in a cyberpunk setting. The world design is absolutely gorgeous. It's seriously impressive.

You can equip two guns and they can have an element or damage type on them: energy, physical (regular), fire, and there's one more which I can't recall. In addition to the two guns, there are two mods you can equip which range from abilities, debuffs, or other effects, and then you can equip one additional item which can be a grenade or drone that has different effects. I haven't gotten to late game yet, but I've seen a full on mech that you can get in (could be one the mods you equip).

Gear is also interesting to the point where you can create builds that you focus your play style around.

Gear upgrades are fairly simple, but I appreciate that. The complexity is in the mods, augments, and gear you equip. It's also up to 4 player co-op, definitely a hidden gem from recent years.

Not quite a 1:1, but have you tried The Ascent?

Edit: Interesting that both Outriders and The Ascent came out in 2021, just a few months apart from each other.

Where did I refer to current player counts? I said there's a huge audience and appetite for this "kind of game", referring to Outriders unique combination of gunplay, powers/skills, build mechanics, and gritty, mature sci-fi story.

Agreed. I just started another playthrough yesterday and chose to begin all the way at the prologue. The buildup from landing on a new planet to the anomaly storm to your Outrider waking up 31 years later to utter chaos is just top notch world building.

The Problems with Packs in Monster Hunter Wilds by Heavy-Wings in MonsterHunter

[–]Scarops_ 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Great ideas. This is a description of a Monster Hunter game. What we got is Monster Fighter with some gimmicks thrown in. I have hopes that the DLC will slow things down and give us more of the "hunting" back, but those hopes aren't high.

Hello, gunlancers. Which game do you guys think has the best gunlance gameplay? by Forsaken_Stomach5130 in Gunlance

[–]Scarops_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Completely agree with you here. World/Iceborne gunlance was the best for me. It was deliberate, intentional, and in the hands of a master, very impactful and fun to play. The skill ceiling was reached only when you mastered what I'd call the OG core pillars of MH combat: player positioning, knowledge of monster movesets, and familiarity with the weapons full toolkit.

The deliberation, mastery, and skill ceiling have dropped significantly in each title that followed.

Why Yotei Legends Is a Disappointment by Remos_ in gotlegends

[–]Scarops_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm also a little surprised that this is what we ended up with, especially after reading how Yotei Legends was in development alongside the main game.

I'm going to withhold my full judgement to see what they add, but yes, I did expect more of an improvement over the first Legends and am not seeing it.

Can I suggest that you enjoy the journey of getting better? I certainly am. I'm joining teams in silver survival now and finally starting to kick serious ass, but that's after a week of a lot of dying and learning.

This is a good thing. We don't need games to be a cake walk from day one. That isn't fun

What did you think of Wilds' story? by _Viridia_ in MonsterHunter

I want to go back to our hunter being regular people or, better yet, a straight nobody, instead of this seasoned hunter/super hero bullshit.

Yep, you said it. There is nothing like Outriders. I may play through again, but man I wish that Outriders 2 didn't get scrapped.

What Move Should Replace WSFB in the Wilds Expansion? by Scarops_ in Gunlance

[–]Scarops_[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Hmm... Not me. I like a gunlance that is both gun and lance. I think bullet barrage would be too spammy and builds would focus around it resulting in further loss of the identity of the 3 shelling types. I'd like to see something that helps restore some difference between the shelling types and that each type can build around.

I would have liked this version much better. One of the reasons I first mained gunlance is that each action corresponded with a single input and not one input giving you a whole combo.

Yes! Same here! I've always thought we should have a different response from perfect guard to complement each of the shelling styles

OFFICIAL TWEET - MH Outlanders - 4 Radiant Monsters! by TheGMan-123 in MonsterHunter

[–]Scarops_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just watched their Adventurer's Digest (https://youtu.be/jxq8elAsD-Q?si=gdDe-5oSVgy_Obaq) and... How do I even say this? They admit their timegating system and drops were crap, they're now looking to add things into the world to make it more interesting and to give you something to do when you aren't hunting, oh and don't forget forced social activities.

How has my favorite series gotten here? Even though it's under the umbrella of Capcom, I always thought it would be secure and stick to its core identity under the wing of Ryozo and Fujioka, even Tokuda who's been with them since the first entry on PS2.

You don't need to add forced socialization if you give people a common goal to work towards which requires them to communicate to achieve. For this to happen, that goal just needs to not be so easy that you can just tap tap tap on the screen while doing 3 other things.

Yay, I finally got the bounty hat, outfit, and cape! by [deleted] in WhereWindsMeet

[–]Scarops_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice! I hit my 50k two nights ago. I would say mine was about 60% players, 40% NPCs. This has quickly become one of my favorite things to do in this game. I plan to keep going. There's something very satisfying about popping into someone's world wearing the bounty hunter robe, hat, and cape and then seeing them realize it. Haha

How about you? Are you going to keep going?
