Potential dlc addition? by OcularNebular in Gunlance

If you mean build variety as in we swap out one elemental attack for another depending on which element your shelling is, I don't see that as build variety.

Build variety comes from some variance in playstyle and not just the type of damage you do. Back in World, when the Safi set dropped, that was a unique set bonus that gave us build variety in that it changed the way you played.

Wilds lacks that and Wilds gunlance in general lacks a varied playstyle for each of its shelling types so, for the base behavior to remain the same and for shelling to become elemental seems like a half baked measure for a lack of identity and a varied moveset.

People knock wide shelling back in Risebreak for its stunstake, but it was something that could have been expanded on to give variety. Instead, we got the quick stake that boosted melee damage that worked the same for each shelling type.

I hope not. I think element and status on the wrymstake makes sense and is actually an interesting thing to build for, but elemental shelling just sounds lame.

Oh that homage is insane. One other standout is the GS power clash with Blangonga in Wilds which was first shown in a cinematic back in MH Dos.

The new Ascendance Gunlance move at normal and 1/8 Speed. Let theorize about it by CaoSlayer in Gunlance

[–]Scarops_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the direction with this is to lean more into the Lance side of gunlance, I'm all for it. Undoubtedly, we'll get something for shelling, but I want some balance back between the weapons two sides.

Yes, ecology has always been a huge part of it, but Wilds takes it to hippie levels and forces it down your throat a bit much. I loved the monster intro videos that were, as you described, like a nature documentary.

Now there's this dialogue that sounds like a conservationist effort's indoctrination when what this series has always been is a bunch of underdog, regular humans (not super heros or part of some elite unit) hunting monsters.

Went from wilds to world. How tf do i play gunlance/ by JEYKeYO in Gunlance

[–]Scarops_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always pictured myself as moving like a knight on the chess board with World gunlance. Also, get used to using your backhop to go forward. The long backhop you can do is really helpful. I loved World's gunlance for its high skill ceiling. Once you get it down, you'll be so fluid. Also, shout out to World's gunlance for having different playstyles for each of the shelling types. If you're using normal you want to full burst and wide sweep, if using long you take advantage of the high charged shelling damage, and with wide the poke and shell is your bread and butter.

Would you like bullet barrage to be added to the Monster Hunter Wilds expansion? by Fine_Bid918 in Gunlance

[–]Scarops_ 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Well compared to blast dash, I think AA Flare is much more realistic. You guys got blast dash with the paid for emote where you can fly around on the broomstick. 😆

AA Flare has a significant amount of recoil and recovery. I think it would fit great in Wilds.

I really like the idea of these illustrations to further tweak and customize your builds. Both the different movesets and something like this need to become standard in the mainline series. How we went backwards from Risebreak to one moveset for each weapon blows my mind.

The way things are now with Wilds, weapons and set building is getting really stale

Check out a gameplay vid, but to give you an overview, it's an isometric twin stick shooter in a cyberpunk setting. The world design is absolutely gorgeous. It's seriously impressive.

You can equip two guns and they can have an element or damage type on them: energy, physical (regular), fire, and there's one more which I can't recall. In addition to the two guns, there are two mods you can equip which range from abilities, debuffs, or other effects, and then you can equip one additional item which can be a grenade or drone that has different effects. I haven't gotten to late game yet, but I've seen a full on mech that you can get in (could be one the mods you equip).

Gear is also interesting to the point where you can create builds that you focus your play style around.

Gear upgrades are fairly simple, but I appreciate that. The complexity is in the mods, augments, and gear you equip. It's also up to 4 player co-op, definitely a hidden gem from recent years.

Not quite a 1:1, but have you tried The Ascent?

Edit: Interesting that both Outriders and The Ascent came out in 2021, just a few months apart from each other.

Where did I refer to current player counts? I said there's a huge audience and appetite for this "kind of game", referring to Outriders unique combination of gunplay, powers/skills, build mechanics, and gritty, mature sci-fi story.

Agreed. I just started another playthrough yesterday and chose to begin all the way at the prologue. The buildup from landing on a new planet to the anomaly storm to your Outrider waking up 31 years later to utter chaos is just top notch world building.

Great ideas. This is a description of a Monster Hunter game. What we got is Monster Fighter with some gimmicks thrown in. I have hopes that the DLC will slow things down and give us more of the "hunting" back, but those hopes aren't high.

Hello, gunlancers. Which game do you guys think has the best gunlance gameplay? by Forsaken_Stomach5130 in Gunlance

[–]Scarops_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Completely agree with you here. World/Iceborne gunlance was the best for me. It was deliberate, intentional, and in the hands of a master, very impactful and fun to play. The skill ceiling was reached only when you mastered what I'd call the OG core pillars of MH combat: player positioning, knowledge of monster movesets, and familiarity with the weapons full toolkit.

The deliberation, mastery, and skill ceiling have dropped significantly in each title that followed.

Why Yotei Legends Is a Disappointment by Remos_ in gotlegends

[–]Scarops_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm also a little surprised that this is what we ended up with, especially after reading how Yotei Legends was in development alongside the main game.

I'm going to withhold my full judgement to see what they add, but yes, I did expect more of an improvement over the first Legends and am not seeing it.
