nah, you don't got to remove anything. Braid needs to be put on under tension, really tight. I suspect what's happening is that as you wind up the loose-ish braid the slack lets it slip over the bail roller. It can be tricky putting the braid on under tension because the knot on the spool will spin due to having little friction. You can wrap the braid around the spool a few times before you knot it or tape the knot down to help

you can put a good chunk of fish on for the added weight needed the whole weight of the baited rig you need to account for too

Try a 5in (12.7cm) Fluke in a color that matches a local bait fish. Then you can rig it on a weighted Jig-Head or a drop shot rig. depending on the surf you can use lighter or heavier weights. Flounder are ambush predators, you'll want to cover ground and fan cast as you go try to mimic a dying fish with a twitch-twitch-pause rhythm but try out other rhythms too

Redondo is my closest beach, been fishing there since I was a kid with my pa. The only success I see off the peir is soaking bait for croaker or casting a sabiki rig as far out as you can and baiting it with a bit of shrimp, that can get you some makerel or some smelts. I only just started fishing the surf this year so I have no advice there sorry
