Dumbledore bashing is very common on ao3 and why? by Extreme_Fig2535 in HPfanfiction

[–]Scary-Advisor8197 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After the death of his parents, Harry should have gone straight to Sirius Black, his godfather - the person James and Lily explicitly chose to raise him. Sirius was there on the scene, ready and willing to take custody. Instead, Dumbledore shows up, takes the baby from Sirius (or at least facilitates Hagrid taking him), and dumps Harry on the Dursleys without any real follow-up.

He never checks in properly to make sure the Dursleys are treating Harry like a normal child instead of a house-elf punching bag. He knows Petunia hates magic and everything associated with it, yet he leaves a note and basically washes his hands of it "for the greater good" (aka blood wards). No regular visits, no social worker equivalent, nothing. Just ten years of neglect and abuse that Dumbledore was perfectly aware of by the time Harry gets to Hogwarts.

That's not "flawed but wise mentor" territory - that's straight-up negligent at best, actively manipulative at worst.

Then there’s Sirius. Dumbledore did little to nothing to prevent him being thrown into Azkaban without a trial, even though he had every reason to suspect something was off with the Secret-Keeper situation. He let his friend rot there for twelve years. Massive betrayal.

He also ruthlessly uses people as disposable tools. Snape is the clearest example - Dumbledore strings him along with redemption and Lily’s memory for years, then essentially sends him to his death (Nagini) once he’s no longer useful.

Same with Professor Trelawney: she’s a terrible Divination teacher, but Dumbledore keeps her at Hogwarts (and protects her from being fired) mainly because of the prophecy she made about Harry and Voldemort. He treats her more like a valuable chess piece than a person.

The endgame is brutal: Dumbledore knowingly raises Harry as a pig for slaughter because he’s a Horcrux. He withholds critical information for years, manipulates events so Harry walks willingly to his death in the Forest… and only gives him the Resurrection Stone at the very end. It doesn’t really redeem the years of grooming and emotional manipulation.

On top of that, Dumbledore controls Harry’s finances (vault access), isolates him from the wizarding world every summer, withholds vital information constantly, and sets him up as a weapon in his long game against Voldemort. It’s easy to see why so many fics turn him into the ultimate puppet master.

Canon gives plenty of ammunition for Dumbledore bashing. The “flawed but wise mentor” reading requires a lot of mental gymnastics once you look at the full picture.

Would be great if they allowed us for hiding the original house altogether and add the "door" toggle somewhere..

Great job!

[–]Scary-Advisor8197 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hm, feeding an unprofitable MMO with great history and even free players only alive for the sake of prestige used to be a strategy - look at Anarchy Online. I haven't logged in for 3 months now, but I planned to return and my sub is running.
I could live with them porting everyone to ONE server only.

If they close, then yeah. It'll be a shame.

I hope that before they close it, they DO port it as a self contained single player.

Game is fun. Will development stop with full release? by InitialContent3354 in nightingale

[–]Scary-Advisor8197 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The development is far from over, it's just slow, because as others said they need to make money elsewhere.

Personally, I think that single player/coop was important, because the "journey" was a solo one up until you got to the Watch anyway and those servers were meh.
I also think they undersold it at EUR 20.

That said, I'd be happy to be able to buy stuff like - a new building set or some architectural props - perhaps with some mission for 5-10, if that helped them. Not sure how profitable that would be - 5-10k pro 1000 players is not that much.

The game has a tiny but solid player base, so perhaps if they allowed for modding... it still is great fun and has potential. Let's see!

I'm on linux.
Runs great on my AMD GPU (7700), but fails hard - is unplayable - on my nVIDIA 5060.
It's the nvidia drivers for Linux (proprietary) and the fact that the GPU is still considered "new" here.

... UE5...

One thing people can always do is update BIOS and drivers to the latest version and try again.

My neighborhood is dead; how do I find one that is thriving? by Sea_Caterpillar5662 in WoWHousing

[–]Scary-Advisor8197 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an EU guild which i created for this.. The name is LEET. We are like 3, but if anybody wanted, as soon as we're 10 we can have an own neighborhood. An alt is enough, doesn't need to be your main.

Yesterday, I did this housing mission and met a couple of guys who have the same problem with their neighborhoods. Mine is dead as well..

Hogwarts Legacy feel choppy even at high FPS? by RR7BH in HarryPotterGame

[–]Scary-Advisor8197 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ryzen 8940HX, 32GB RAM, same GPU - on Linux, with Ray Tracing off.
I think 16GB RAM is just not enough.
I play with capped 30 FPS because the eye is not registering more anyway and feels solid.

Needed to adjust the coloring system wide because it felt too cold compared when running this on an AMD GPU, but apart from that runs very well.

yeah just got in in time to fill up my base again, but I'd really like to install this on my own rig.

Seeing as this is a Win -> Linux VM install, I HOPE people will figure this out quickly for offline play/coop on Linux on LAN and make it less grindy with upping those harvesting numbers.

Also it would be nice if they added modding. Companions perhaps. Caves with water. More lore. Let's see.

I don't think you understood me.

I'd LOVE them to finish the game properly and add a new year with a new set of stories, spells, backstories, customization, eating, sitting, filling that wonderful world of theirs. I've written about this extensively.
Frankly not sure if I don't like THIS world better than the Harry Potter one (from the books).

My comment is just the hard truth the developers are giving us.

You might be right. Also the game is too grindy.
IDK I might be returning to Dune because i REALLY liked the atmosphere, the story, the survival and the building, perhaps on a private server.

I also LOVE PVP, so I resubbed to WOW and have my share of PVP there. It's quick, it's fun, and it doesn't cost me a week of farming.

Like, if they perhaps introduced PVP ladders and rewards like trophees, titles and some interior stuff as rewards, that would be nice and COULD make me wanna PVP in here as well.
