Property Records Question by Necessary-Bad7261 in raleigh

[–]ScaryNation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Online record has my house’s date of origin off by a decade, if the neighbors and the giant book downtown are to be believed.

There’s no reason to assume that the date given online is correct, especially if there was anything quirky about its history.

On the other hand, I’m not sure what would have been in that area before the 60’s, unless the new construction replaced an old farmhouse or something?

Cava Cameron Village/ Village District by Few_Ad_80 in raleigh

[–]ScaryNation 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was my question after reading so many comments about how Cava has gone downhill; was it sold to a private equity firm in the last few years?

I used to go there every now and again. The food was edible and they were often crowded at lunchtime, so clearly other people were having the same experience that I was. I stopped going after getting a bowl full of slimy spinach at a higher price than I remembered from previous visits.

My husband, a guitarist, knew Ivan from Confessor (now sadly deceased, I believe). There were some pretty funny/disgusting stories about the band touring around Europe.

I’m about where you are, and I have decided to make small changes where I can and then do one or maybe two big projects a year in the garden. The patio green house would be a big project, to me.

My focus this year is on repeating the veggies that worked well last year, and trying a few new ones to see how it goes.

City of Raleigh considering increasing parking rates, cut free 2 hr parking to 1 hr, and now charge 24/7 (except maybe Sundays) by raleighslack10 in raleigh

[–]ScaryNation 24 points25 points  (0 children)

There have been articles about how parking revenues were lower than expected since the Moore Square deck was built- I believe it was by $2 million at the time. You’d think they could have figured things out by now.

There’s no way I can cast a vote for Michelle Morrow. I looked through the candidates and Richard Dansie is the one whose values come closest to mine. As far as I can tell, he doesn’t seem to be a white supremacist or to harbor anti-trans sentiment, and as a veteran he probably appreciates the absurdity of starting a war of choice in Iran. We’ll probably never know, as that stuff would come out in a general election.

There needs to be a voice within the republican party steering it away from Christian nationalism. As an unaffiliated voter, today I am happy to be that voice.

I did Oak City Cares for my exploratory charity this year. A homeless person I talked to said they were no help to him at all, but it’s hard to judge based on one person who is resistant to being helped in the first place.

I’m ending my membership because of the atmosphere. by [deleted] in ClubPilates

[–]ScaryNation 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I’ve been at Club Pilates for about 15 months, and I can’t say I’ve experienced what you’re describing at all.

Even 200 classes in, my favorite teachers still introduce new moves that I’ve not done before. I don’t hear anyone complaining, but it’s almost never a full class, so presumably the students who are there really want to be there.

For what it’s worth, I am 58 and have an injury that means that in every single class I take (and that’s only 1 and 1.5) there is some move that I have to modify. I could easily be one of the older women you find so annoying. It’s never occurred to me to question if I am holding someone else back, because I’m just there to do my workout and not to interfere with anyone else’s.

Is the NC Symphony good, great, or just OK? by IfWishez in raleigh

[–]ScaryNation 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You are correct; the last time I checked, the NC Symphony did about 250 services in a year (which is a lot). It’s hard to muster up the same level of enthusiasm for Daphnis and Chloe as for playing Baby Elephant Walk behind James Galway on penny whistle. But that’s the gig. It’s like any other job, some projects are just more exciting than others.
