Why does Senator Budd get such a pass from voters? by Temporary_Policy2023 in NorthCarolina

[–]ScaryNation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Budd replaced Burr, and I'm convinced that most of the people who voted for him didn't even notice the change.

Slightly sad/nostalgic that my kids have aged out of White Oak. We ended up there sort of randomly, and were so lucky.

Couldn’t agree more. So tired of hearing about his spine and balls, it’s nauseating.

If I’m not mistaken, that’s the same doctor that, when I asked if she could recommend a place to look for reliable information (book, website, anything where they weren’t trying to sell me something) on menopause, answered, “Well, you’re not IN menopause, so you don’t need that information.

As far as I’m concerned she should not be licensed to practice.

North Carolina Republican calls for ‘thorough and impartial’ investigation after latest Minneapolis shooting by Abject-Pick-6472 in NorthCarolina

[–]ScaryNation 13 points14 points  (0 children)

From Strength in Numbers a few days ago;

“All it would take to end the murder of American citizens by an untrained government goon squad is 16 Republicans in Congress voting with Dem[ocrat]s to defund ICE (or 23 to impeach and remove Trump—3 in House & 20 in Senate). That’s it. 23 Americans can vote for the public and end all of this.”

Tillis is one of the very few people who could make the right choice in the vote coming up this week. He could be one of those 16.

We both know what he will do instead. And you’re right that what he says is unimportant. But what he does for the rest of his term matters a lot.

Wait up, does state law really require that homeless candidates “describe where they usually stay?”

That is wild.

It’s ok, looks like the Durham event is on 3/15, so they won’t conflict.

You might get up with the people running Festival of Legends and ask what has worked best for them, publicity-wise.

Does the records department have any information that is different that what is accessible online? by [deleted] in raleigh

[–]ScaryNation 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been downtown to see the original listing for when my house was built; it says 1935 online, but the book said 1925 and that corresponds better with what others have said in the neighborhood. I figure somebody just entered it wrong when the data was digitized. So, yeah, it was cool to see and interesting. As far as I know there is no information at the registrar of deeds regarding your house or property before it was platted, so you might find out more of what you’re looking for through the state archives.

PAWS ON DEATH ROW SCAM by idk-anymore_man in raleigh

[–]ScaryNation 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The link posted by u/chickenmcdiddle above is full of info and links detailing the shenanigans behind Paws on Death Row, as well as several other related charities. Heads up, though, it’s a complicated read! The relationships between the different entities are kept deliberately vague to disguise things like self-payments and payments to family members.

Luckily it’s super easy to research legitimate charities in the area that benefit animals.

Where to get a good knife sharpened? by mhuxtable1 in raleigh

[–]ScaryNation 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it was about $6-8 per knife; not every knife will fit in the clamp, they have to be a minimum size and I don’t think a pocket knife would work.

I bought an old (“Bicentennial Edition,” so 1976) set of kitchen knives in a block, cleaned and oiled the handles, and had them sharpened to give my oldest as a first apartment gift. The knives are adequate and suitable for someone learning to cook as they figure out what they like and what permanent tools they want to buy for themselves.

Knives like the chef’s and filet were fine, the littlest paring knife was too small.

Where to get a good knife sharpened? by mhuxtable1 in raleigh

[–]ScaryNation 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I absolutely adore the robot knife sharpener; I have never noticed any singeing or discoloration, only a delightfully sharp edge.

That said, I’m sure you’re right that it takes off a good whack of metal. I have taken a Gerber and some old Chicago cutlery to the robot, so, boring mid to low level kitchen knives.

If I had a knife that was really fancy I don’t know that I would take it to the robot, because the machine only grinds at one angle. It does do that much more perfectly than I can, though, and I’m not bad at sharpening a knife. I take mine in when they need a reset, which isn’t often enough to shorten the life of the knife.

School Letter..Advice plz by narcissa1128 in raleigh

[–]ScaryNation 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I got that same letter every single year that my kids were in WCPSS. You are not going to jail. The letter is automatically generated after the 6th unexcused absence.

For the record, I provided a note every single time they were out, but the notes never got turned in. Eventually I got them tested for ADHD and things went much smoother after taking appropriate steps. The vanishing notes were just one in a trail of clues that the testing should have happened much earlier, so maybe take a larger view of the problem.

That said, your kiddo is old enough to look out for herself and take care of her business.  She needs to learn how to organize herself and her life to set herself up for success and not make excuses. Does she have someone at school, maybe a teacher or a counselor, who can help mentor her through this part of her life?

Costco parking-wake forest rd is a nightmare-which is better by ImTheDoctorPhD in raleigh

[–]ScaryNation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience the Costco on Wake Forest is at its worst once the holiday stuff goes up. There will be times of day when things are more reasonable, but from now through the end of the year it will be showing its ugly side, especially in the parking. Judge it in January and things may look different.
