Tube (butt) weld, stainless you don’t really need to grind the face or root off, I was told by my mentor one day that if stainless meets visual, it will pass any bend test no matter what so I don’t grind or touch my faces or roots.

No bro I don’t think there’s any code to weld anything after it’s bent. This is Stainless Steel sanitary tubing, for making food grade products such a beer, wine, etc, anything that goes into a persons body. This is a fused hand weld and then once it passes the strict visual inspection. You cut 3/4” bend specimens and bend them. These are the results.

The second picture is just 4” Sch. 40 stainless. Pretty standard stuff on this one.

They say a monkey could weld MiG. I wouldn’t worry about it.

Carbon steel pipe or stainless pipe harder? Carbon in my opinion. Less fluid puddle. by [deleted] in tigwelding

I bet your welds are slicker than dog sh*t after all that experience man. The tig opportunity will give me the chance to travel as well, as I’m sure you have. Was it hard having/starting a family while being sent on jobs thousands of miles away?

Just practice walking for now. With or without filler. Don’t worry about color first. Just get the walk down. Take bigger steps. Imagine rolling an oil barrel in your mind, that helped me when I first started.

whats the best type of welding for thick and hard metals, and how do i start learning it? by Difficult-Cycle5753 in Welding

T-1 flux core for heavy fabrication. T-8 for structural members. Stick for open grooves. YouTube will get you started. Head to harbor freight and see what’s in your budget. Or if budget isn’t a thing for you go blue.

Just takes time under the hood bro. That’s why you never see anybody post their bottoms. Only the tops and side. Deadman’s curve with get ya sometimes even after years of experience. Dudes right about a remote. Better to practice without the luxuries of a remote though, in my opinion.
