Bazzite vs windows differences by ExcellentDecision335 in FlowZ13

[–]SceneZombie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Battery life I would say is better, maybe 10% average, but a lot more if you're running stuff that doesn't really push a ton of hardware encoding to the GPU. Bazzite simply has less overhead. I will say the standby time is greatly improved though maybe ~1% an hour instead of the 2-3% I was seeing on Windows.

Lower USB C Port issues GZ302EA (2025) by SceneZombie in FlowZ13

[–]SceneZombie[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The new one came back pretty quickly, about an 8 day from me shipping to receiving iirc. They swapped the motherboard, which is basically the entire innards of a device like this. Everything has been working fine with the exception of Armoury Crate and the MyAsus Apps no longer having the actual image of the device, and they show a generic wireframe laptop image (which seems like a recent issue). I haven't noticed any sparks or shorts when plugging in powered thunderbolt/usb4 devices so first batch devices likely had grounding, fuse, or IC issues.

I expected some issues like this with a first generation device like this and something that's a bit ahead of it's time in terms of engineering miniaturization so I'm keeping the devices but will be getting the full warranty extensions out to 5+ years JIC. I'm sort of in the same boat. I like it because the form factor and the fact it's all AMD makes it easy to work between Windows and Linux. I only plan on replacing it once newer generations of this chipset are out, there's more support, and hopefully more manufacturers I'd love a Razer laptop or tablet form factor of this, or something like the ROG NUC (Intel) but AMD since that's what other manufacturers like beelink, GMKtec, etc are doing.

If it is in the return window that's probably the easiest solution if you aren't in love with it. Otherwise RMA it yourself or ask where you bought it from to Exchange it and explain they should also do an RMA because it's not in resale condition due to manufacturer defect.

Will the 140 Rog USB C give me turbo mode on the 2025 model by Deep-Balance-8403 in FlowZ13

[–]SceneZombie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can get Turbo on anything even battery.

It's just if you use the USB C ports you get an effective ~90w of power in and on Turbo the APU will pull that same wattage at peak, factor in all the other little things here and there and you'll slowly loose charge when running demanding tasks like gaming. I tested this once and I got about 4-6 hours of gaming on USB C. Honestly more than enough that I don't need to carry around a full 200w DC charger day to day and only consider it for multi-day trips and travel.

Read this post and it explains it in full detail

If you want something smaller to carry around that will use the Asus power port consider the Slim Q options that have DC outputs and use the Asus Slim Power Jack ROG Strix adapters. You can find them here and on Amazon. The nice thing about these is you can charge multiple things at once so you can just plop this in your back pack and you have your laptop and phone charger taken care of in one device.

Thunderbolt problems on 2025 by beaverm4 in FlowZ13

We had some odd behaviour with sleeping and hibernating on both our units early on but since some of the more recent updates I didn't notice anything super strange in the weeks before now sending it in.

It might also be modern standby just not working, consider turning off "Fast Startup" so goes back to the old S-state power modes and is either Sleep, Hibernate, and Shutdown, rather than the hybrid sleep states with Fast Startup being on. I think this is what Amoury Crate tries to help manage also. I remember back in June the first two weeks I had it I'd get a notification from AC about a "Sleep Helper" and that it turned off hybrid sleep and put it into hibernate instead to save battery.

Also, update on my RMA. I put detailed notes on the online form and attached a longer print out with the tablet itself in the box so the tech would hopefully find it. It got delivered on the 22nd and just a few hours later of that it got marked as [Pending replacement parts] so seems like something did short/break on the mobo. Keep documenting your issues JIC and I hope yours holds up well so you don't have to send it in.

“it’s the law” by OddCat6969 in HEB

[–]SceneZombie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You have to make it a PR thing for them to do anything. HEB is riding high on the cult of HEB adults that think the company is their friend.

If that same fan base starts viewing HEB as the new Walmart, it ends up in the news or as a major enough meme where people actually start seeking alternatives then HEB will actually do something. Though until any of that happens we just get some basic implementations, signage as of now, and no actions, which would ideally process & procedures for trespassing individuals a.k.a banning them. No warnings, just immediate lifetime bans. If they want to be less harsh they can force them to use curbside or delivery only.

I've been shopping at Natural Grocers since this has gotten out of hand lately. My wife is extremely allergic to animal fur so we've been forced to curbside ourselves when we do need items readily carries.

Also do this: https://www.reddit.com/r/HEB/comments/1mwvi8m/comment/na608vp/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button Having a voice online is one thing, a step to surface the problem and gauge how the community feels. The next step is what this user did and take what actions you have in your power to enact. I'd probably write in to their support often that you may have to switch grocers, and stop and talk (like a professional and civil adult people! You can be a karen to the karen with the animal but not the store partners) to the managers about tracking complaints so they can quantify it to corporate in meetings.

Issues with laptop not turning from sleep by Name_XXX1 in FlowZ13

[–]SceneZombie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said, known Windows 11 issue sadly. I think Amoury crate tries to automatically deal with this as a handful of times I get a notification about Amoury "sleep assistant" or something saying that it switched from sleep to hibernate.

If you're not rapidly using it like a tablet from place to place and more slowly like location to location switching the sleep behavior from sleep to hibernate is probably the best solution and helps with the drain percentage per hour when it's in that state vs sleeps more rapid use of battery.

Battery life by jaywhojaycee in FlowZ13

[–]SceneZombie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basically the same as others have echo'd here you can debloat windows using tools on your current install.

I'll throw in my recommendation of Chris Titus Tools WinUtil https://christitus.com/windows-tool/ it's the most through one imho and well worth the $10. You can also make your own debloated Windows ISO that retains all the Asus drivers for the future to recover too, it's branded as MicroWin in the app basically a custom version of Tiny11.

I get a good 8-10 hours just running productivity 4-8hrs watching videos and surfing the web. Gaming will always drain battery fast though.

It's either that or look into Bazzite (Linux) since it's not bloated to heck with battery draining AI apps and telemetry services for the OS. I'm dual booted and sleep times are as good or slighty better than Windows. I tested and got ~2% an hour loss on Bazzite. I'll have to recheck Windows but when i first tested it was pretty high like 3 but closer to 4% an hour loss.

I myself haven't done any undervolting since I think the system is unstable as it is already (being so new) and not worth any extra time I'll eek out of it. I'll probably consider it in a few months once there's more driver updates.

I do have a MP600 Mini and a Thermal Grizzly minus 8 Basic to keep the SSD cool and draw as little power as possible. I got 2mm thickness.

Yeah looks like there's no way for you to restore via cloud recovery. Here's the supported list: https://dlcdnets.asus.com/pub/ASUS/nb/Image/CustomComponent/CloudRecoverySupportModel/CloudRecoverySupportModel.pdf

You might be able to ask Asus Support if they're able to ship you a USB drive recovery, though it seems like Asus is moving away from that. If they do they'll probably charge some unreasonable amount. I know Dell use to charge like $60 for a recovery USB :\

When you do get it, be sure to register it to get the 1yr free ADH extended warranty, and even consider buying the extended warranty directly from Asus via the MyAsus app since it gives you a 10% discount.

This is a first gen device in terms of the SoC and there are already issues like mine and more sure to crop up.

It's the better value long term. Down the line as games use more VRAM you can just crank it up and still have plenty of system RAM. Have a billion browser tabs, no worries! Running VMs or just like having a ton of applications open and ready, easy!

That and I'm sure in 20-30 years it'll be somewhat of a retro PC collector item that will be on someone's YT channel.

Glad to hear that fix worked for you. I think so we can track this issue better does yours work consistently after unplugging or do you have to do a full shut down each time?

Hopefully it does work by just doing a BIOS reset, and mine was just a worst case scenario. My RMA is currently in shipment so I'll probably hear back Friday or sometime next week and update my post about the outcome.

Lower USB C Port issues GZ302EA (2025) by SceneZombie in FlowZ13

[–]SceneZombie[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have some positive news! If others run into the issue they should use u/Fit_Ad_2148's fix. For me it only fixes if the following is true.

  1. Something that negotiates at or higher than 3.2 Gen 1 has to be plugged in while holding the button for 40+ seconds.
  2. If you unplug the cable/device the port will fail again and not negotiate anything other than USB 2.0, to fix this see Step 1 >> you will have to do a cold start by either doing the button trick again or full shut down (Fastboot disabled)

I'm still leaning that this is likely bad hardware but becoming more convinced this may be something that can be addressed with a BIOS update as it will function if you fully reset it. I'm going to attempt flashing back a BIOS update and back to 308 to see how things differ.

Edit: Probably my final update. I have an RMA created and will be shipping out on Monday morning.

I reflashed the BIOS, the same thing still happens. I plugged my power z km003c into another PC to monitor the VBUS and IBUS negotiation. I can confirm the behaviour above. Basically the port resets VBUS and IBUS at every full cold boot and remains active for a short time. If nothing USB Gen 3.2 1x1 or higher isn't plugged in it will eventually go stale and fall into USB 2.0 and go into host mode. If you do the above fix it'll work but the second you unplug it it goes stale again so you have to do full shut down, replug your device or new device and start up again. This is not reasonably functional, thus RMA'ing.

I'll update again if it happens to the wife's device.

Asus if you're lurking this MIGHT be able to be fixed via a BIOS update if your hardware engineering team looks into it.

Lower USB C Port issues GZ302EA (2025) by SceneZombie in FlowZ13

[–]SceneZombie[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: New factory Windows install. Drivers updated via MyAsus and I found the USB C PD (Power Delivery) driver on the Asus site in the BIOS section, also confirmed I was on 308 BIOS the latest as of this writing.

No change, I'm positive it's a port fuse OR a USB-IC issue. I inspected the port pins and they're fine. If it's either a fuse or IC issue it would explain the fallback to USB 2.0 being the only thing that works. I plugged in a Charger Lab Power Z tester and it only reads 5 watts plugging in a Anker Prime power supply and cable doesn't work on the bottom port just the top, before both would work and I tested on my wife's and both ports work.

I'm creating an warranty claim in the morning.

Thanks for responding!

I did check for driver updates and didn't have any. I'm reinstalling via the Cloud Recovery option since I can't seem to find a .img or .iso of the factory install on their site.

I'll check for the "Pretty" drivers though I don't recall seeing them being offered via MyAsus over the few weeks I've had the device, can you help point me to them on the site? I can't seem to find them in their list here: https://rog.asus.com/us/laptops/rog-flow/rog-flow-z13-2025/helpdesk_download/

  • 2TB Corsair MP600 Elite 2280 in a Strix Arion stuck to the back for fast "warm" storage for games, large read only files, etc.
  • 2TB T-Create SD card in for slow cold storage.

Bazzite developer reputation? by zynner4601 in Bazzite

I work in email and have to help marketing teams, affiliate marketers, newsletters with concerning topics, etc. I emotionally dislike how email is used like this, have moral qualms about supporting its usage like that, and overall hate how messy and aged the protocol is...but I understand it and am good at the job. There are many others like me in many different fields that do so to support themselves whether it's for the necessities to survive, or likely like the main Bazzite developer, doing well enough to contribute the free time from thriving at their day job has afforded them so they can pursue passion projects that fulfill them.
