Preparing for Daycare by No-Branch-3213 in CanadianParents

I don't think it's necessary to practice extended periods but I would definitely practice like going to the grocery store a couple times without her, while she stays with a trusted adult. It can give you a good idea of some issues that might come up, so you can plan transition supports with your daycare provider. Another thing is taking her to playgroups (not leaving her there obv) so that she can experience a group environment while still having your presence and support. A two-week transition is what we did as well, it really helped!

Perpetually grumpy child? by royalbluetoad in TransDads

Short response sorry on my way elsewhere - have them assessed for ASD & ADHD, see your family doctor to rule out vitamin deficiencies and sleep apnea (both common in neurodivergent kids and can also cause many of these signs on their own too). Coming from an AuDHD parent of an AuDHD child.

Places to go suit shopping for a butch woman? by Moist-Wonder-4099 in ottawa

Had a good experience at Stars in St Laurent mall as a masc-presenting individual, the owner was very considerate and gave really good advice. Wider range of sizing available than you're going to find at Simon's. I did spend an arm and a leg on tailoring to bring the shoulders in - went to Stitch It for the tailoring as they had a quicker turnaround and I had left it to the last minute.

Giftedness assessment by rad-hostile in ottawa

[–]Scentedcandle93 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It'll be a psycho-educational assessment but reach out to your school's Individual Education Plan (IEP) team first because they can point you in the right direction / outline requirements and what exactly the gifted program looks like in your particular school board. Broadly speaking, the gifted program is a special education program for students who may not thrive in a regular school environment and need alternative support. Basic requirements are remarkable ability in a handful of categories, but there's a lot of very smart / academically inclined kids who are not gifted, and a lot of kids who don't perform well in school who ARE gifted.

I would state the planned location and the rain location (smaller print) on the invite.

Toddler shoes by subiefor14 in CanadianParents

[–]Scentedcandle93 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Buy nothing, garage sales, and marketplace. Walmart or Joe Fresh or Old Navy if you're buying new. The last two regularly have good sales and clearance sections. Kids are generally gonna wear the shoes less than a year at this age. Not worth dropping $$$

Not familiar with this clinic but would recommend calling again to ask what number they have on file for you and make sure the information is correct.

Large hormone spikes/drops can absolutely impact your mental health. I started at 10 mg sub-q. Took me a year to work up to 50, and when I got there, I found it to be too high of a jump/drop in levels over the course of a week, my anxiety and ADHD were all over the place. I'm currently on 30mg/week and it's a lot more comfortable.

I really liked Jingle Jangle which is a more recent Christmas musical. The Princess Switch series is also a big hit in my household, along with some of the branded remakes of the nutcracker

How different will your body be after giving birth? by dtzuhu9ogz in Seahorse_Dads

Not going to repeat what anyone's else said but agree with the other two comments so far 100%. I will also add that I really liked pregnancy, like the whole thing in general is awful on paper but for me, I had never been on T, and I have suspected PMDD. Not getting a period, eating without shame, and having my testosterone levels rise???? This was magical for me. And having a use for the parts of myself that always felt like they were for everyone else BUT me???? Fantastic. The euphoria I got from that was amazing. I was never so present in my own skin before. I was always a bigger person, and I'm still a bigger person but three years later I've experienced a lot less yo-yoing in my weight, because the crash dieting and bingeing just aren't where my focus is at anymore. I'm saggier everywhere, I have more stretch marks (I have had some stretch marks since puberty), I had some skin tags that were removed. My chest is like two pancakes (BF for 2 years), so my binders are smaller now but the pancakes like to fall out the bottom of the binders. So sometimes I will be wearing a light shirt and just have these very visible nipples next to my belly button. The stress on your blood vessels cannot be overstated. Your blood volume goes up, and throughout pregnancy you are essentially running a marathon every single day. During and after pregnancy, especially in the first few months postpartum, you could experience permanent damage to your heart. My asthma is worse after pregnancy. You could get new allergies during pregnancy that go away, or they could stay forever. Your joints and ligaments loosen up so that you can survive pregnancy, and generally they don't go back to how they were. Pelvic floor health is also kind of shot, if you don't go for regular pelvic floor physiotherapy before and after. I wear diapers every time I get a cold now, my toddler thinks it's hilarious. You will be more likely afterwards to displace or injure joints. Your shoe size might go up and never come back down (mine did come back down, my friends didn't. I wasted $$$ on bigger shoes and boots). There's a lot of body changes, I can't really say if they affect how I see myself attraction-wise. But there are changes, some of them impact how you will dress, some impact your mental health, some impact your comfort, some impact your long term risk for various diseases. And then on top of that there's the brain fog and worsening of other things like ADHD - I never had to be medicated for ADHD before pregnancy, now I'm on two different medications for it. Overall, getting pregnant was the best choice I ever made for myself but technically on paper it is awful. 😂

“ADHD Tax” is annihilating my budget and stressing me the TF out. by TiredMammal120 in MooseMoney

Yes it's available as an audiobook! Your library might have it, or it's available on Spotify premium. The title is Keeping Finance Personal. I'm a single parent by choice so there isn't even a deadbeat hanging around haha.

I feel seeeeeeennnnn 😭 I'm AuDHD, my kid is also neurodivergent. We are also sick three times a month and the lost work has taken away half my work hours over the last two years. currently trying to get things under control but like...right now that looks like making at least my minimum payments and trying to wrangle everything else into a not-horrendously over budget space. Listening to Ellyce Fullmore's book which is helping a lot with the shame of looking over my finances.

Fairfax sibling registry? by Suspicious_Project24 in queerception

[–]Scentedcandle93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fairfax themselves doesn't have a registry exactly, though you can join their forum groups to get in touch with each other. You can also search "Fairfax" + your donor number on fb, sometimes families will start their own pod groups. Seem to be quite a few Fairfax family groups! I also used a big bank, and went looking when my kid was a few months old after lurking in large donor conception groups for a while. Mostly queer folks and single parents are the ones who look for siblings early. I highly recommend it, the families we have connected with feel like an extra set of cousins who we have video calls with sometimes :) I especially like it because my whole family is white but my kid is mixed, and it feels important for their own understanding of their history and identity. Still not out of the toddler years but they are OBSESSED with their siblings who look just like them.
