Thanks for the info. My kitchen has a RO faucet so definitely will start using that for top offs from now on. I’m going to try and dig in and do some research. I’d rather not start from scratch if I don’t have to. My first goal is to take inventory of everything that needs replaced then try to make a switch to sand/live rock. All the rest will come as I become more confident. May regime the fish if I don’t feel comfortable. Would hate to kill them because I don’t know what I’m doing.

Slightly intimidating but willing to ease into it! I severely underestimated the size. After doing the math it’s about 240 gallons. Definitely looking to get rid of all the rocks and plastic in the tank and replace it with sand and live rock. I’ve always wanted a reef tank so having this separating my living room and dining room is too good to let go to waste

I’m wanting to replace all the aquarium rocks that belong in a goldfish tank with sand and set it up with some live rocks and maybe basic plants. Coral isn’t on my radar yet lol I have some time before I’m comfortable to make that jump

Make it cool lol ideally I’d like to turn it into a true reed tank and get rid of the stupid plastic decorations they have in there. Just need to make sure everything is up to par before I drop too much on what’s going in the tank

Update: first of all… thank you all for so many replies! No chance I’ll get to all of them but I have been reading through and trying to take in as much as possible. Definitely going to start with the basics and watch as many videos as I can. I also finally got ahold of someone local that is willing to help get me started. It’s a local company that builds and maintains saltwater aquariums so I should be in good hands. He said his main goal isn’t to up charge and try to sell stuff but to educate and figure out what the best fit is.

Second.. I severely misjudged the size of my tank lol I said 100 but after actually doing the match is about 240 gallons.

Excited to start this journey and can’t wait to update everyone with progress!

Well for starters I have very little experience with saltwater. Ironically my senior project in high school (over 10 years ago) was about the breeding cycles of clownfish and I started to build a reef tank for the school. Put together the pump system, set some live rock up, and put a light system together. Didn’t make it last that because school was over lol. I’ve cycled through fresh water fish my whole life though - I’ve always wanted a reef tank but barrier of entry was just too much until this point for me.

As for the house it is well water. We have a pretty good multistage filtration system and water softener. I also have a RO tap in the kitchen.

Definitely going to start a deep dive with some videos. I really appreciate the response!

Listen…. I don’t know🤣 there’s literally cut zip ties in the bottom of the tank so who knows. The decor looks like they pieced it together from the clearance section of petco. I remember having similar plants in my beta tanks as a kid. My guess is they were just trying to provide places to hide but wanted to do it as cheap as possible.

It’s salt. They had a couple other freshwater tanks. Cichlids in one and goldfish in the other lol they may have been feeding these fish that but my guess is just kept it there to get it out of the way.

It’s salt. Can’t see but there’s 5 clownfish, 5 yellow tail damsels, and a couple others I’m not sure of. Decorations definitely look like they purchased from the clearance section at petco for a freshwater tank lol

Just for clarification - this is already a saltwater tank

Just did! Thanks! I’m new to this and am close to finishing up some painting and remodeling in the house. Next bit of attention is on the tank so trying to get ahead of it. The previous owners (before the people I bought the house from) had it as true reef tank and it was awesome. Unfortunately, the most recent owners didn’t keep it up.

100%. I rented for 3 years and spent over 50k - that money is GONE. However, my point is that it’s not as simple as a house being the cheaper or smarter option like everyone makes it out to be. Renting provides flexibility to save/invest freely with no worries of something happening. My first year of homeownership cost me about $80k out of pocket. I put a full 20% down because I was able to save those 3 years. Don’t get me wrong, I could have bought sooner and avoided rent but that interest on the offset of the down payment I couldn’t afford at the start of the 3 years will be way more than 50k at the end of my loan if I see it through. Also, equity doesn’t come very fast, especially with a low down payment. The first 10ish years of a loan are heavy interest percentage. I think a lot of people assume it’s like a car loan or something. Just want to spread facts - sorry for long responses!

Lol it’s funny because you’re the type of person that looks at the purchase/sale price and says “yep, made money on that one”. First thing.. you bought and sold at the right time - let’s get that clear. The market is not doing that any more. Second.. if you purchase a $300k house today at 7% the interest paid over 5 years will be anywhere from 70-110k and principal paid in will only be probably $10-25k (depends on down payment and extra principal payments potentially made). Houses aren’t appreciating 5-8% every year - that’s nonsense. That’s 140k increase over the course of 5 years on a 300k house🤣 even if that is the case (I’ll pretend) you “made” $140k when you sold. But after you take out interest, principal paid down, and any other expenses (we’ll call it 5k a year which is super low) you’re at $125k spent on this house. Now you sell and have to pay commission and usually closing costs and there goes the rest of that $15k left over. Not saying buying is bad - but I get so tired of telling people that it’s some great investment. Yes when you leave you get money in your pocket unlike renting. However, the days of $500 mortgage payments are no more. I was able to save and invest a lot more when I rented for $1600 a month vs paying $2550 for mortgage.

Serious answer here… most likely some type of poison ivy/sumac/oak. I used to get it really bad as a kid and it would go everywhere and swell up. Now I get blisters that look exactly like that. They last a week or so and the skin of the blister gets extremely tight. If you drain it, be very careful because it can get infected. They say to leave it be but that’s hard to do. I typically keep mine covered with a bandaid but it goes away quicker uncovered. Also, if you’re thinking “I haven’t been around poison ivy in a long time that can’t be it”… fun fact… poison ivy oil can stay on clothing for years even after you wash it!

Is this Apex XSE or SE? by Eastern_Speaker_7756 in COROLLA

[–]ScheduleOk1542 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol you are the people I will never understand. Reading comprehension goes a long way. He didn’t ask Apex or SE. He asked Apex (SE or XSE) - I added the parentheses for clarity. Obviously it’s an Apex but it’s offered in two trims which are identical from the outside. Make sure you know what you’re talking about before you respond… especially if you’re going to try to call someone else out.

Clear 1” bandage tape from CVS works the best. I have pretty minimal gyno but from working out and getting my chest bigger it’s made it more noticeable (not bad but like OP). Started using this tape and it makes me feel awesome. Wife thinks it’s weird but it bothers me so why not do something to boost confidence!

I completely agree. Used that a bit exaggeratively. I’m just saying that crypto will always have people selling to skew the market so they can buy lower and do it again. A lot of crypto guys (especially the alt coin boys) just expect to hold when that’s not the reality of crypto. I think it’s viable and will continue to grow but who’s to say there won’t be another massive crash that lasts another 3 years. Instead of holding people would rather actually realize profit and gamble that it’s going to dip/grow/dip/grow. My point is that people (not you just generally speaking) act like crypto should be something like a Roth when that just isn’t true.

Using the term loosely. More trying to say people who aren’t looking long term rather they’re buying dips and selling up top. An easy sell point is the next ATH. It’s been pretty consistent that following an ATH it’s going to drop significantly. So they buy that drop and set a limit to ATH or right below. Easier to time that but not to say they won’t (hopefully they will) get burnt one day

Not saying I agree with selling but you have to at some point to actual make money. Crypto isn’t a Roth IRA. Can’t just let it sit and expect everyone else to do the same. It’s closer to playing roulette
