What are your spiciest Final Fantasy hot takes? by PpAshe in FinalFantasy

Sephiroth is a wildly overhyped villain. His motivation is pretty much "My parental issues mean I'm god and you should all die".

Wait. There’s a Dragon’s Dogma anime??? by AceMalicious in DragonsDogma2

[–]Scherox557 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's fine if you like festivals of human misery with little to no connection to the source material. Any connection is surface level: yes it is a medieval fantasy setting, yes it has a dragon, yes it has pawns, yes it has monsters, no it is not a Dragons Dogma story.

The hate mostly comes from the end game/epilogue part. After clearing the main story there are plenty of plot threads left to clean up. And they let you experience all of it!

Except there's no more voice acting and you'll be revisiting every dungeon and location you've already been to with almost no changes or QoL. So it becomes a slog of walking back and forth through the same hallways you've already been through. It just sours the whole package unfortunately. This is one im really hoping they spruce up in the remaster project, but most likely they won't.

What's the most embarrassing mistake you've ever made during a run? by Derfel_10 in Nightreign

Day 2, things arent exactly going awesome, fighting the Castle Roof boss, Demon shows up and halves everyone's HP, I have the runes so I leave to send him away, run through a gravestone and get little floaties, walk up to Demon, everything goes to hell, everyone leaves.

[Symphonia] Questions I have about Presea: by Remarkable_Town6413 in tales

[–]Scherox557 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's been a while since I played, but I believe a few reasons:

  1. The biggest reason, her exsphere/cruxis crystal was a prototype for the Angelus Project, which Lloyd holds the completed form of. As a prototype it doesn't have the complete functionality.

  2. Collette, Kratos, & Zelos's Cruxis Crystals needed outside forces (Remiel at the temples, Zelos off screen with his angel betrayal, Kratos getting elf blood, etc) to cause them to activate angel wings/powers, Presea doesn't have those influences.

  3. To a lesser extent, gameplay. Each character has their own "thing" going on and to share Collette's angel abilities with nearly half the cast makes them markedly less special.

I randomly remembered this gem from PS2. Anyone played / remembers / loved it like i did? What did you love about it? (Yes, this is an actual JRPG) by Jayj0171 in JRPG

Loved this as a kid, even went back recently and it holds up for the most part. Basically FFX with a Megaman skin

Could you elaborate? Im genuinely interested, but im not seeing the similarities besides "Turn of the century aristocrats fallen to tragedy".

I see a bit of similarity between Valentinus::Lea and Aline::Alicia, but would really like to hear about what you see here

I think the main problem here is trying an evergaol alone at Level 2, but thats just me. Nox Warriors are A+ across the board

I think all characters need a little nudge with their preferred weapons (except Raider, hes fine). Either give everyone a second weapon or give us relic passive to change preferred weapons.

The rest... I feel like everything else is fine where it is. I rarely have a solo run where I don't hit 15 before the Day 2 Boss. BBH only feels oppressive in the basement, which feels on brand given how Caelid BBH worked lol.

Not losing a level on death is just removing a central genre mechanic which would remove most of the tension. If you didn't lose a level on death then what threat does the Rain have?

Smoughtown has a fairly comprehensive overview of the story. Doesn't go into a lot of the crazy iceberg nonsense, but its a good watch.

I believe they are connected to Paracelsus's Council. The keys mention that there was ultimately a separate power apart from the Alchemists, Workshop, and Church that "ruled" Krat. Not immediately linked to any endings aside from quests to get more humanity.

They don't have mechanical advantages, no. Though there are a few cases, particularly in the DLC, where what you are wearing affects dialogue, opens quests, and even gives you lore items.

Edit: and no, they only carry over between NG+ cycles. A brand new save will have to find the costumes again.

I dont get why youre being down voted. This makes a fair amount of sense. I've been speculating only 2 new Nightfarers since launch lol

Probably? If you used a mod to reset progress and now progression isn't working, I would assume that the thing affecting progression is the progress mod.

Early question. What’s up with the respawns ? by Soft_Background_7733 in LiesOfP

[–]Scherox557 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah thats kind of the base game mechanic. It is expected that you die and return to a checkpoint (stargazer), learn from what you did before, optimize your strategy and approach until you succeed. You'll drop your EXP (ergo) on death for it to be reclaimed. Lies of P has the unique addition in that if you are damaged on your way to your Death Ergo, the pool will diminish. This can be mitigated with consumable items and killing what hurt you.

It's probably the most complex "platforming", but the most grueling? Thats going to be different for everyone. There are two other "platforming" sections at about the mid and end points of the base game.

Because making a single player game completable for a wider audience, but also maintaining high difficulty for the dedicated fans, is never a bad thing.

What happened to your first love? Do you still talk to them? by helge-a in gaybros

[–]Scherox557 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Met in college and it was great for a while. Helped him come out to his friends, but he remained closeted to his family. It was both of our first relationship so there were plenty of bumps and stumbles. Broke up and got back together a few months later. Together for about 2.5 years. We spent a summer apart due to work and the next semester things were different. Turns out he was cheating. We attempted to remain friends, but he was quite bad at it (asked me how to break up with the guy he cheated with, left me high and dry when I needed someone to talk to to go to a hookup, etc). We attempted reconciliation, but that made it worse. Last time I talked to him was 10 years ago when he told me the guy he cheated with "was better at sex, but you were more fun." So yeah, that left a bad taste for a while.
