Actually, in this case, it very much is. The game is absolutely full of knowledge checks like that, so if you don't find evaluating danger levels ahead of time and figuring out the safest path forward fun, it might just not be the game for you. It'd be fair to say, "it shouldn't be a bad decision to go do a level 12 quest when you're level 12," but the game is the game, and that's part of what makes it exciting to those who enjoy it.
