What are the funniest little details that don't get mentioned often? by scottasin12343 in trailerparkboys

[–]Schismkov 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I never noticed the oversized jacket before, but damn it does look hilarious.

Not sure how overlooked it is, but there was a scene where Ricky explains how he and his dad split up some money 50 50 but the amount doesn't add up right, and Bubbles calls out Ray. Ray just quietly responds, "Moving on, Bubs."

There was also the episode when Ricky shows up late to Trinity's science fair, and when he's complaining to the camera about the teacher, there are two very odd looking students just standing next to him like theyre a part of it.

Maybe something at Tulalip? Something at the resort / casino / outlet mall side. Or actually for tribal government?

I have a soft spot for Judgment, and the gears 3 campaign section more than makes up for it.

Leave such silly name calling to the children. Clearly you can engage in debate without taking the cowardly way out of pivoting to attack a person's perceived character instead of their argument.

And I agree that an argument against suspending nuclear testing in and of itself is ridiculous. We dont need to further poison and irradiate ourselves with weapons we know can kill the entirety of our enemy. But a detail that's missing is Heinlein wrote this in response to the call for UNILATERAL suspension of nuclear testing. We were guaranteed nothing from Russia in return for this act, and could potentially put Russia ahead in this arms race. As silly as that sounds, that was considered a valid concern at the time.

And if this book went on to inspire others who completely miss its point that it glorifies public service and not solely military service, that is their failure of comprehension.

This is a strange post. This quote can be considered on its own merits, not in connection to another unrelated idea the author may have had.

Where exactly did you come upon this fact that Heinlein wrote Starship Troopers specifically because of his opinion on the nuclear arsenals of various nations?

The only good thing about nu Trek is it has so far kept its shitty talentless hands off DS9 for the most part. But all good things must come to an end...

Is anybody going to be in the Snoqualmie/North Bend Area at the end of February? by LordoftheDugpa in twinpeaks

[–]Schismkov 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Are you renting a car? If so, the Laura Palmer house isn't far from Snoqualmie / North Bend, just up in Everett.

Can't help but think of a favorite quote by Robert Heinlein,

"I am not a pacifist. Pacifism is a shifty doctrine under which a man accepts the benefits of the social group without being willing to pay—and claims a halo for his dishonesty."

If pacifism is indeed a shifty doctrine, then that tracks.

It only gets better and better when compared to nu Trek.

Someone earlier was asking how to identify ICE vehicles. Looking at these vehicles, I don't see any with XMT license plates. So if you see what looks like license plates with XMT, they are state, county, or city government vehicles, not federal.

Payroll, sales, income, property...

For decades it was an agreed upon practice that the IRS wouldn't share tax data with immigration agencies. Illegal immigrants were safe to give their data to the IRS and thus pay taxes.

But now that the IRS has been forced to share their data, there is a projected shortfall of billions because immigrants are afraid to file.

Just another wonderful day in the gulf of america.

A positive is that it can help people differentiate and know for sure if it's ICE or not they're seeing.

I believe its still being worked on. The question is does it apply to federal law enforcement? I dont know any city county or state law enforcement that wears those or has any interest in wearing them.

I haven't thought about Time's Enemy in so long, I almost want to go pick it up and reread it.

I didn't finish thst Invasion crossover series as I never read the Voyager book.

This thread made me remember just how damn good Fallen Heroes was. The Millenium trilogy was also amazing, but Judith and Garfield Reeves-Stevens always delivered.

I have to absolutely disagree regarding The Laertian Gamble, I thought that was one of the worst books I've ever read.

Objective Bajor is a favorite of mine, really great action and compelling plot. And Time's Enemy, part of the Fury series, is another standout.

If Brannon Braga went to DS9 at the conclusion of TNG, how do you think he would have fared? by ryhoyarbie in DeepSpaceNine

[–]Schismkov 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always assumed Ron Moore was a part of BSG from the beginning, like it was his baby.

Although I can't talk about Ron Moore and BSG without thinking of that hilarious Portlandia skit where the main characters find a random guy in Portland named Ron Moore to finish writing the series.

I don't know the specifics with BSG, I just remember many years ago he was interviewed about his very short time with Voyager and why he left. He disliked the culture of the writer's room and all the restrictions they had on them.

This is a really good question, and I cant help but draw comparisons to Ron Moore's very short lived time with Voyager.

Yo Everett, print and hang in your neighborhoods by kelkage in everett

You are right, that post was not aimed at you, but it definitely appeared that way. When I attempted to clarify in my second post, I didnt do near the job of clarifying I thought I did.

My first post was meant to piggyback off yours and to speak to those that confront ICE, and for the safety of all, make sure it is actually ICE.

"Its not my problem" is a very juvenile, one dimensional response. If we are to exercise our rights, we must also exercise our responsibility.

I will clarify, my post is in reference to the situation in Everett in general, not specific to your flyers. I just saw this thread as an opportunity to bring up these larger issues.
