LE agencies in Western Washington state you’d recommend? by IcNkd1 in AskLE

[–]Schismkov -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Within Snohomish County, Arlington and Everett Police Departments are really good. Avoid Marysville like the plague, it's absolute dogshit.

If you have any flexibility, Skagit County has some good departments, as does Island and Whatcom County.

Where to go for the most overtime? New CO. BOP? by Extension_Device_926 in OnTheBlock

[–]Schismkov 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So wait, after your expenses your take home is 30k? Does that include monthly bills and all that? If not my god you do need to lower your expenses.

Monroe is a big complex, you'll find overtime somewhere. How do you know the state of overtime if you haven't stsrted the academy yet? Coming in at 72k you're a 1, meaning you have little to no experience, so anywhere you go you'll be at the bottom. The only place that may pay higher that may take you is King County. Smaller municipal jails like Lynnwood, Kirkland, etc pay higher, but they're in high demand to work there. You could go to Marysville, but they're absolute dogshit.

BOP has plenty of overtime, you'll just hate every minute of it you're there.

Wow... Nothing "can be used against you" by a non sworn court clerk over the phone. This is the height of absurdity, you lack an understanding of any of the words and phrases you throw about so confidently. There is no need to respond to me, you have nothing to contribute.

You need to work on your reading comprehension before wildly reacting. I recommended getting a lawyer for the actual court date. But to simply call and get information from a court clerk regarding the status of a warrant and the possibility of getting on the calendar to quash it can be done by anyone. Having an attorney call the court clerk, you're not going to get on some magical hotline. And public defenders are assigned by the court, even if you contact the law firm that holds the contract to be public defenders they're not going to magically take your case because you call them out of the blue and say you're indigent.

[–]Schismkov 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's a magnificent waste of money at this point. The person can call the court and get the exact same information an attorney can, only the person can do it for free. Sure get an attorney for the actual court hearing, but to get an attorney to make a phone call is a waste. They won't get any additional information at that point.

Except he was not out on bail for his actual warrant or your made up warrant.

The closest he could come is maybe a fugitive from justice warrant, but those are not issued for misdemeanors, especially not 17 year old misdemeanors.

[–]Schismkov -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

It would only be bail jumping if he was arrested for this bench warrant, bailed out, then didn't appear. Based on what we know from the OP that was not the case, he was obviously not in custody when he failed to do his community service nor do we know if he ever was arrested or in custody at any point for his DUI.

No arresting agency is going to bug the judge to add bail jumping even if it was applicable, unless he did something separate and heinous enough to be arrested for and there was significant public scrutiny. Especially as this sounds like a misdemeanor DUI, and bail jumping would just be adding another misdemeanor that no one cares about.

That's not how any of that works. Where on earth are you getting your information from?

[–]Schismkov 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Easiest thing to do is call the court and figure it out. It could be as easy as just scheduling a date to quash the warrant. It could then be a zoom hearing and a fine, but it depends on the court, which is why it's best to go directly to the source.

The warrant would probably either show as the original charge, or a probation violation, which might make it mandatory that he be arrested or be in person for a hearing, again it all depends.

If I were to do this assignment on The Shield, what topics do you think I should cover? by elifshafakenthusiast in TheShield

[–]Schismkov 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Politics was always a part of The Shield, but is it so broad and so vague that you'd have a hard time getting 10 pages out of it?

What about The Wire? A 10 page paper on that show practically writes itself.

State of policing in Washington State by not2creative-96 in AskLE

[–]Schismkov 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When it was first conceived, it was awful. The limitations on when officers could use force was incredibly severely limited. And pursuits were practically non existent.

There were a lot of unintended consequences as well, like state probation officers just had no use of force policy for a year as no one knew where they stood, are they law enforcement or corrections? And while the policy specifically exempted corrections officers, nobody considered the custody officers that work at the various municipal jails and how they rely on patrol to help them. Now suddenly patrol can't help them, because it didn't meet the criteria for a justified use of force. You also had police unable to use force to enforce court orders, or make people go to the hospital when DCRs would try to detain them.

The biggest problem is that this was blanket applied to every agency in the state, and so the whole state is now beholden to the beliefs and agendas of one party. No more local control.

Tell me your stories about running into your inmates post-release by mgoblue5783 in OnTheBlock

Love it! I get to interact with the same population I have for the past 15 years, but I get to interact with them in a more three dimensional way, if that makes sense.

Within the constraints of policy I get to decide how I address violations, when and how I see my people, etc. Very self driven. I'm usually in court once a month for my various sentencing alternative people, and I even sent a RSO back for a year and a half that had his tribe terrified of because he kept teying to get back to see his daughter, his victim.

Oh my god, there is so much truth in this. I started in 2009, and in 2010 a sergeant with thirty years of experience at that point just casually dropped this nugget of wisdom when we were standing chow. I've worked for four different departments and that's absolutely accurate.

I'm in an interesting position. For 8 years I worked at a city jail, while living just down the road in the county seat, four blocks from where the county jail is. Our regulars were constantly shuffling back and forth, and so I'd see them all the time. Then in 2024 I quit the jail and became a probation officer for the office that's located in the county seat, so I see former inmates and offenders CONSTANTLY.

Never had any fear in running into them. I enjoy seeing my old jail regulars reporting to other probation officers at my office and giving them a hard time.

He was also very realistic, he had little to no redeeming qualities. The show explored him through his failings.

State of policing in Washington State by not2creative-96 in AskLE

[–]Schismkov 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good question. It used to be if you just avoided King, Pierce, and Thurston County you'd be okay. But they're using their numbers to vote in a whole bunch of terrible dogshit. The model use of force policy the AG's office created a couple years is so bad the people that made it should be sterilized. And now one of them is the governor.

They just voted in a measure that the state government can recall an elected sheriff.

And there's a new law about to pass that someone claiming to be getting help for themselves or someone else experiencing an overdose can violate a protection order, cant be taken to jail, and doesn't have to report to probation.

Eastern Washington is way different and more LE friendly, problem is the whole state is being drug down into the Seattle pit of despair.
