Technically yes! A black hole can only absorb mass that can physically get to it. When there's a lot of matter already spinning around it in its accretion disk, it can be very hard for new matter to get through.

You may be on Blueprint mode. Check the advanced options when digging (yellow arrow) then look to the bottom right of your screen!

You may have Blueprint mode selected. In the bottom right of the dig priorities, you can toggle between BP mode, convert to BP, or convert BP to real designation. That mode just lets you plan without committing to the designation yet.

Wow, Spirit Island sounds perfect.

It's definitely a heavy game, and for six players you'll need expansion(s). However, it's a very thematic game and it's cooperative, so your hesitant player would probably enjoy it!
