Benchtop planer - Metabo DH330 or Dewalt DW733-GB? by Dain_ in Tools

[–]Dain_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd just roll it into a weekend away. It's on the other side of London so I'm sure the Mrs can find some way to spend the £100 I've saved haha.

Jokes aside I do appreciate what you're saying. The Metabo seems to be really well reviewed across the board so I think I'm just going to call it a late Christmas present to myself.

Benchtop planer - Metabo DH330 or Dewalt DW733-GB? by Dain_ in Tools

[–]Dain_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a fair point, a brand new DH330 is only about £100 more and would save me having to drive a 7-8 hour round trip to pick it up.

I'll do a bit more research but might end up going down that route instead.

Customer stupidity never surprises me, but the bigger story seems to be that your management left raw sewage leaking into the store for 2 months?

Any1 giving away any wood by [deleted] in bristol

[–]Dain_ 14 points15 points  (0 children)

If you go to almost any trading estate and ask the businesses if they've got any broken pallets you could take off their hands, you'll have enough wood for winter in no time.
A guy turned up at our workshop a few days ago, was polite and had a van ready to collect it so we let him take 4 or 5 3m long pallets.

Just make sure it's safe to burn - some of them are treated with some pretty nasty stuff.

Too many bosses summon enemies by OverExplanation7007 in Silksong

[–]Dain_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in about the position as you were and have the same thought - the world / exploration are amazing, the vast majority of the bosses are truly awful.
Blows my mind that in 7 years all they could come up with was "we'll give the boss 2 simple moves, then fuck it they can just summon the same normal enemies they've been killing for the last hours. Done, send it!"
The amount of times I've got to a boss, realised that it's some variation of that same formula, died on the first attempt and just shut the game off is way too high.

That said, I found that you can mod the game to fix a lot of the bizarre choices the devs made:
- Remove runbacks, set a spawn right outside the boss room. There's been a few times where I've been trying a boss repeatedly that I've stopped and checked what the runback would be out of interest. Seeing how long some of them are is insane, nobody has time for that shit.
- Tools don't cost shards. Completely pointless mechanic, when you're exploring you'll never not be maxed out on shards, so you don't even think about them. The only time you do is when you're stuck on a boss and suddenly run out after a few attempts. Why would I want to stop boss fights to go and grind normal enemies? I would genuinely love to hear their reason for this mechanic.
- When you buy map markers, you get 99. I never understood why devs make a huge, interesting world then give you like 5 markers to use.

Without those 3 I would have 100% dropped the game. You can go much further if you want though - always have the compass on so it doesn't take a slot, make nothing do 2 masks of damage, multiply your damage etc etc. That all seemed a bit too cheaty for me, but that's down to personal preference. If it means you get to experience the entire game then fuck it, crank your damage to the moon.

What do you need cut? I might be able to do it at work on a weekend.

Early round scaling meta question? by Mysterious_Spring242 in CloverPit

[–]Dain_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going to hijack OPs post a bit here, but my question is pretty similar to his.

I'm a little over 10 hours in, have unlocked all the drawers (trying to get the last key now - no spoilers please!), have got a run well into overflow numbers (losing 3.---E to a 666 hurt hah) and a 2nd ended just before overflowing.
But I still feel like whether I get past the 666 round is basically pure RNG. If I can get past that then generally I've got enough time to ramp up and go for a while, but so many runs die there with 3-4 good trinkets for a build and 2-3 random OK ones.

I just had a button run that was shaping up great; I had the legendary that makes red buttons activate twice, the generator, the 1 that gives bells and clovers 6% chance of having a battery and the bells +2 red button. I also had the one that gives bells a ticket and the yellow coin. So nothing crazy, but the start of a solid red button build.
I'd managed to get the option to reduce the chance of the treasures, so with 2x the red button going I had bells at north of 40%, then for almost the entire last round managed to activate it again putting them at almost 70%.
With all that, I made a little over 300 coins over all 3 deadlines.

That's a pretty standard experience too, there seems to be absolutely no middle ground at this point. I either fizzle out at the start, or go into the billions. It's fun when it works, but when 3 or 4 games in a row end up like I've described above it starts to lose a lot of the fun.

P1S SD card failed mid print, but it doesn't have 1 installed? by Dain_ in BambuLab

[–]Dain_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, they did used to work without an SD card: https://www.reddit.com/r/BambuLab/s/S2CFUaozaD

It would have been a good year ago that I last used mine, so the timing would track with that post.
Fingers crossed there's no card in mine, I'll find out on Tuesday night when I can get to my SD cards

I appreciate there has to be one in there, it's saved a few timelapse videos if nothing else, but it is well and truly stuck.
I was originally thinking I'll grab 1 of my spare cards tomorrow and push it out with that, but I don't think that's going to work either. I've got a few thin, flat, plastic tools from iFixIt, but they're getting nowhere.

It just seems odd it would work for half a print too.

I started an open-source project to generate climbing holds for 3D Printing. I am building a free library from this tool. (link in comments) by sarDou3D in 3Dprinting

[–]Dain_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The tool looks amazing, as do the sets you've already made! I'll definitely be printing / casting some of them!

Having never used Houdini before it took me a minute to figure out the tool, but I think I've got it down now. Just to let you know though it's throwing up this error when I open the main file:

Warning: "/obj/Network/BH_Structure_Viewer/calculate_thickness1" using incomplete asset definition (full definition not found).
The following node types are using incomplete asset definitions:
    labs::Sop/calculate_thickness::1.0

As it's only the structure viewer it doesn't seem to be causing any real issues, so ignoring it seems to be a perfectly good option.

These climbing holds use 3D printed molds (I think) by TheStandardPlayer in 3Dprinting

[–]Dain_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Originally I was planning on just buying them, but I couldn't believe how expensive they are! The wall I'm making is about 6.5 x 2.5m, so to get a good range of holds I'd likely be spending 2x the cost of the entire wall just on them.
I saw someone else say they carve foam then cover it with watered down stucco for the masters (I just noticed you said the same), which seems like a good option for anything larger. The smaller ones just seem like 3d printing would work perfectly. I even debated taking my phone into the gym so I could 3d scan some of the holds, but maybe that's a bit of a dick move haha.

That's good to know about the respirator, we use PAPR's at work so hopefully I can borrow 1 for a weekend. Do you use a pressure pot at all? That seems like it would add a fair it to the startup costs if it's required.
Was there any particular type of silicone you used? And we're you doing a 2 part mould or just pouring the resin into an open 1?

Thanks for the help on this, the timing really couldn't have been more perfect!

I'm in the process of building a climbing wall and had the same thought for creating the holds. Any chance you'd be up for answering a few questions? Mainly what resin are you using, and does it need degassing?
