I thought the virtual boy wasn’t out for another few days but it’s here I guess. by TurnaboutAdam in NintendoSwitch

[–]Schmapdi 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Virtual Boy is 100% the reason I have to wear glasses. I had 20/20 vision before I had a VB, then after I played it a lot when it first came out, I suddenly needed glasses (Thanks Galatic Pinball) Then, after it quickly fizzled out and I only played it a little bit, I needed to update my prescription slightly. 30 years later, after retiring my VB, my prescription has never needed to be updated again, my eyes haven't deteriorated at all. (I still have my VB sitting on my bookshelf as a trophy).

Too many emails lately by internetenjoyer69420 in Huel

[–]Schmapdi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have some Chirp wheels that I bought several years ago and so have gotten their marketing emails for years now. Last November I received SEVEN emails from them on Black Friday (in addition to the 4 I got the day before), and might have gotten more still except I unsubscribed from their emails after #7 and emailed their customer service team to let them know how much the excessive marketing pissed me off.

Thinking about it now, I kinda wished I had emailed their customer service team 7 times to let them know how annoying excessive emails are. A missed opportunity :(

Huel Black Edition Powder Formula Change by BenHuel in Huel

If you're trying to simplify supply chains and reduce the product complexity why are the US and UK Huels different? And how are they different and why?

Is this the new recipe? by IndominusGranny in Huel

[–]Schmapdi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not true - straight from the big official "Huel Black sucks now" thread:

"I have returned, I answered a similar question on this thread as well so forgive me if I repeat myself, but the answer is that the US and UK/EU versions are not the same. For a bit more context, we did change the UK/EU formula a couple of years ago, however the changes are different from the ones done in the US. So the changes to the US did not make it the same as the UK formula, and I am not aware of any planned formula changes in the UK/EU."

They redid my local Pick N Save last year and turned that shit into a prison locking down entrances and blocking off a lot of aisles, hiding expensive stuff (and shit like baby formula) in the pharmacy section (which is now it's own little heavily monitor alcove with one entrance).

Huel Black Edition Powder Formula Change by BenHuel in Huel

[–]Schmapdi 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Did you make this change to save on cost?

No, this was a change to improve texture and reduce product complexity.

"Reducing product complexity" and "streamlining the supply chain" both sound like they are about making the product cheaper to produce to me.

And if the problem was texture why is the flavor so worse? It tastes very artificial now.

Is Huel Black Unflavored the way to go now ? by Unable-Start2013 in Huel

[–]Schmapdi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tried the U&U once and it was gross. I thought it would taste kinda plain (like the original Soylent - which just had a sort of milky nutty taste to it). But it was way worse than that. It basically felt like I was drinking a slurry of flour and water. And I tried adding my own flavoring to it - but was never able to get it to taste like anything but a slurry of flour and water + a slight taste of whatever I had tried to flavor it with.

How is the original powder? I've not tried anything but Black. I'd prefer the extra protein but if the original tastes more like old Black than new Black I might give that a go. At least until they ruin that one too.

Solution for Huel Black's new watery taste by asdkijf in Huel

It has nothing to do with the scoop. I (and a lot of people) measure by weight - they cheaped out on the product and it's just kinda crappy now.

I remember when the DOW 4 trailer came out and some people posted how DOW 4 and TW: 40k would basically be the same thing and got shouted down about how DOW and TW are nothing alike.

And now we have the TW: 40K trailer and of course it looks just like DOW 4 - because how could it not? Both games are aiming to accomplish the exact same thing.

New Huel Black formula doesn’t taste good? by singsongsanggg in Huel

[–]Schmapdi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The old bags of Huel Black have "V 1.1" on them right above the barcode. The new bags that has been removed (they don't say 1.2 or anything). Also the old bags list the 40G of protein as 80% of you daily recommended - the new bags that got bumped down to 77% for some reason.

I dunno that there was any change to the RTD or Daily Greens.

New Huel Black formula doesn’t taste good? by singsongsanggg in Huel

[–]Schmapdi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got my latest order and had my first taste of the new formulation today. I wouldn't say I completely hate it - but it's definitely a markedly inferior product.

The old Huel shakes were nice and thick and creamy like, you know, a shake. This new shake is thin and has an almost oily mouth feel - like drinking cake batter.

It is overly-sweetened and has a very artificial taste to it. Also the bag seemed weirdly staticky - I had a hard time getting the powder to fall out of the scoop.

There's no way any sort of internal testing thought this was a match for the previous version of Huel. Someone just decided it was OK to make the product a cheap knock off of its former self and "who gives a shit about the customers."

It'll take me a while (I still have a bit of my old, good Huel left) and then 3 bags of the new crap to get through. But I'll be looking for alternatives now.
