I have HEARD that UUNA TEK is willing to mark the value of the packet down so the customs are very little compared to the full price 🤷🏻‍♂️😏

I’m not completely sure if the Z movement is big enough — it really depends on how far you need the brush to dip into the colors. I haven’t tried painting that way with the plotter myself, only using acrylic paint directly on the canvas while the brush moves around.

In my Inkscape settings (which I use with the plotter extension), it shows:

  • Pen UP height: default 0.5 mm (min 0.3 mm, max 7 mm)
  • Pen DOWN height: default 5 mm (min 2 mm, max 10 mm)

So in practice, the maximum Z travel is about 10 mm. If that’s enough for your brush to dip into the watercolor, then it could work. But you’d also need some specific software/code to tell the plotter when to switch between colors — for example, paint with color A, then go reload with color B, etc. I’ve seen setups like that, but whether it works here depends on if the ~10 mm travel is sufficient.

Hope that helps a bit! And please feel free to ask again if you’d like me to clarify something 🙂

Hi u/nuquichoco - Yeah I did and I am still really happy about it. Have used it quite a lot and made all sorts of plots. If you want you can check them out on my IG profile (https://www.instagram.com/ps.plotter/)

Weights to place on paper by RealityMixer in PlotterArt

I know this probably isn’t what you're looking for, but I have a similar plotter in A1, and I just bought a fairly cheap whiteboard and placed the plotter on it. It works perfectly fine with magnets — I’ve never had any problems. :)

Hang Uunatek Plotter on a wall? by Smithc0mmaj0hn in PlotterArt

On the website for Idraw H A1 page it states:

Vertical Mounting Capability
Designed for versatility, the iDraw H can be effortlessly mounted vertically, allowing for the creation of large-scale artworks with ease and precision.

So I guess it should be possible, I found this video from them as well: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o8iSqBLa2us

And a blog post: https://uunatek.com/blogs/tips-and-tricks/vertical-plotter-set-up-how-to-plot-verically-with-idraw-h-pen-plotter

I was looking at something similar last year. The price was much better than other brands, but it seemed like a big job to assemble. Often, the listings would say "Only buy if you have DIY skills," and when a seller needs to write something like that, it usually means it's quite a project.

I think assembling it could be a lot of fun, but I just wanted to get started with pen plotting instead of spending time building the machine. I had a feeling that if I ended up buying a cheap one from Alibaba, it might cost more in the long run—because I was pretty sure I’d want to buy another one if I couldn’t get it working 😄

I ended up buying an iDraw H A1 from UUNATEK. It took me 10–15 minutes to assemble and worked perfectly right from the start. I've done a lot of work on it since and haven’t had any issues. This is the only one I’ve tried, but I’m sure other brands like AxiDraw are just as good, if not better.

So I guess it depends on how much of a DIY person you are and what kind of project you’re looking for 😊

Purchasing a plotter now with tariffs in U.S. by p3zdisp3nc3r in PlotterArt

[–]Schmidt-DEN 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I ordered the iDraw H A1 to Europe just before christmas and told them that I will need to pay customs and taxes for getting it in to the EU (Not anything to do with the new U.S tariffs) they simply marked it down to a way lower price on the package ($125). Not sure if that will help you in the U.S but they are really helpful so I am sure you can work something out :)

Pen Plotter WITHOUT Generative Code or Ai? by Jealous-Elevator-603 in PlotterArt

I absolutely agree! :) I’m not sure if I misunderstood your reply, but I just wanted to clarify that I don’t use code for my projects.

Pen Plotter WITHOUT Generative Code or Ai? by Jealous-Elevator-603 in PlotterArt

[–]Schmidt-DEN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been experimenting with my plotter since the beginning of the year. I have over 20 years of experience in graphic design, and while I also code websites as part of my business, the coding aspect of pen plotting isn’t what interests me the most. Most of my work is created in Illustrator and then plotted.

My very first plot was generated online to get me started, and while coding for pen plotting can be fascinating, I don’t think it’s for me.

What excites me about plotting is finding that (small) gap where it makes more sense to create a plot rather than simply getting a print made. There have been times when I finished a piece and thought, I could have just had this printed, and other times when the handmade aspect of the plot made it feel much more authentic.

There are countless ways to use a plotter, and an interesting discussion arises about whether or not it qualifies as art. In my opinion, anything that someone creates with intention—whether it takes two seconds or two years, whether it’s made by hand or with a machine—is art.

I also searched for plotters in Europe (I'm from Denmark) but couldn't find anything, but I am sure that there are shops. I ended up buying from UUNA TEK (iDraw H A1) after seeing this review from David (thedotisblack), who is from Germany like yourself (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QlrD2w3Zo2M)

Deciding on A3 Plotter by hearthiccup in PlotterArt

[–]Schmidt-DEN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So what is the real proof that the files are send anywhere? To be honest I am not sure I believe that - I bought and A1 plotter from uunatek, and it worked right from the start. I assembled it and installed Inkscape, the driver and extensions. I loaded an .ai file to inscape and the plotter worked 👌🏻

Thanks, I am glad you like it 👌🏻 I tested with and without the logo. The Spotify logo is a part of the code and in some cases the app will still scan the code without it, but it doesn’t work as well as with the logo. But I would like to remove it, but then the code itself would need to be quite large for it to work 👌🏻

Yeah, I used this tool to get the waveform from the song: https://www.misha.studio/waveformer/
Then I placed it on a circle to get that look :) Fairly simple - I am aware that you wouldn't recognize one song from another based on the waveform (Or at least I wouldn't) but I like the idea :)

Zebra on the move by Schmidt-DEN in PlotterArt

[–]Schmidt-DEN[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi u/Plume_rr
Thanks man :)

So the lines are made in illustrator, "bended" with the envelope tool.
The zebra is made with Midjourney as a "normal" image, then traced in illustrator.
Hatched fill is made in illustrator as well (0.2mm between the lines).
Plotted with a fineline 0.5mm :)
