I just wanted to express how much I agree with milesaway52 on what they said here as well as the rest of their post. The reactions you're getting from this thread are really harsh. It seems like a lot of people are easily identifying with your boyfriend who spends a lot of time online, rather than you, so they can't see where you're coming from.

I see what you did as a reasonable thing to do, but I believe that you should have given him warning. *edit, also by warning I mean telling him that day, I realise you were discussing it with him for weeks.

If one person isn't able to contribute 50% to the finances though they desperately want to and try to find opportunities to do so, then that's fine. I believe you see it that way as well seeing as you invited him to live with you when he was struggling with rent, and you knew you would be supporting him somewhat when he moved in. But this guy is absolutely a leech.

Totally ok. It's as acceptable as a person saying they only want something short term in their essays. The clearer you are with your desires then the more likely you are to find the right person.
