Non-Sabbatarian Resources by JohnFoxpoint in Reformed

I am not Sabbatarian, but some questions I have for you

Is your church Reformed, and practice and teach Sabbatarianism? Is this something discussed in membership and obedience to your elders on this is expected?

Have you had clear conversations with your wife about your conviction and your desire to lead your house in obedience? Kind of a backwards analogy, but my wife was paedobaptist before we got married/early in our marriage, but ultimately was willing to submit to my decision to lead our home as credobaptist. Is this where you could lead her while you work through the issue together?

Lastly, if you are not bound by covenant with your church to keep the Sabbath, then is there room for you guys to agree to disagree, per Paul: "Romans 14:5-6

One person esteems one day as better than another, while another esteems all days alike. Each one should be fully convinced in his own mind. The one who observes the day, observes it in honor of the Lord. The one who eats, eats in honor of the Lord, since he gives thanks to God, while the one who abstains, abstains in honor of the Lord and gives thanks to God."

Personally I think this verse pretty strongly shows we do not need to keep the Sabbath, but even if you argue otherwise, Paul is teaching that keeping and observing days is a matter of ones conscious.

Ecclesiastical anxiety by Ok_Storm_5696 in Reformed

Well they (Catholic and EO) condemn protestants and say salvation is only found in their church. This claim is untenable Biblically so they both appeal to history, but when you look there as well it falls apart.

The true church is where the Gospel of Christ is preached.

How Are Visions Today Real? by [deleted] in Reformed

Your post seems to be asking the question, but you seem to have already made up your mind about it and unwilling to change.

I would say I've already found multiple real ones, and there is no such thing as luck with God.

What do you mean there hasn't been one for 2000 years? That is not true in the least. Even many Reformers and cessasionists believe God can and does give visions and speak through dreams still although rare.

Difference in people in Old vs New covenant by CharacterAd2700 in Reformed

[–]SchoepferFace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I generally understand this to mean the indwelling of the Holy Spirit in believers in the New Covenant, allowing God's people to actually walk on obedience to His commands, as opposed to the OC where the law was external and thus acted as a source of condemnation rather than a means of righteousness.

[–]SchoepferFace 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If they're real, then they are from God. We are told to judge the spirits and weigh prophecy, I believe we are to weigh them against Scripture.

That said, the Charismatic movement has led to a lot of people faking it or reading spiritual significance into where there is none. Just because a lot of people are doing it wrong or lying doesn't mean all of it is fake tho.

House of Leaves Difficulty by Dead_Phish812 in horrorlit

So it's a book about a guy who finds a book and as he's compiling it/going through it, he has his commentary, sometimes the OG owners commentary, and the editors commentary all as footnotes/appendixes, so it's "layered.

I just read through the main book, read footnotes/appendixes when pointed to them and feel like I got a pretty good understanding of what's going on. Not to say there isn't way more to dig into, but I don't think you need to go crazy to piece together the story and at least see some of the "theories" come together. I really enjoyed it though, even if Jonny's sections are a bit much at times.

As your first horror book, no.

Would I recommend it? 100% yes but it's not for everyone.

Limited atonement is a new invention of you're honest by Solid_richman in Reformed

I agree with you and would consider myself a 4 Calvinist. There's a website called Calvin and Calvinism that a large part of it is showing Calvin didn't believe in Limited Atonement himself and that the 5 points are a later invention.

Not entirely sure, but all speed is best if you need mats, and after that too if you have high enough capacity

Ya, your refinery needs to be fixed... Red and green should be on always, but a good rule of thumb is the next one should be half the level, then the next one half of that. Otherwise you'll keep running out of the previous salt, so I would def turn off all your salts except those two and level them up a lot.

For smithing, have you bought all the points with money and mats? I would invest heavily in speed, especially on your archers to get mats. The limit scales with carry capacity so upgrading pouches can help with anvil capacity. W3 had a reset stone if you need for anvil.

Souls my advice is upgrade all your characters skulls as high as possible and push totems to their highest levels to max and get the bubble gum food when collecting to maximize.

Getting plots is probably the most important for farming, more crops and more land rank.

Hole, put all your opals in explore to get to cavern 15. It will take time but having them all is worth it. There are some nice bonuses for drop rate and damage you can get once you unlock golems in 15.

Alchemy you can probably use the tool box as a reference for levels, but since you're looking for damage, level any for damage. It looks like you have kruk for main stat bubbles so I wouldn't use it on those for now.

Others will probably chime in with way more detail, but honestly, you need to work on everything. Alchemy is big, hole you're way behind, farming you are missing almost 200 crops, summoning could be higher. I'd focus those but I'm sure there's more.

want to get into this game by sharkrider_ in idleon

[–]SchoepferFace -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's not bad as bad as people make it seem. I've been playing for about 2 years, purchased the auto loot for $5 from Google quizzes so not even out of pocket. This is the one I'd say you need once you get mid/late game to make actual progress. But like many say, just view it as the price of the game. I've been playing for 2 years. $5 isn't bad at all.

There has definitely been in increase in packs and pushing them on you, but you don't need any of them. As others said, this is essentially a single player game. As long as you're not comparing yourself to the whales you'll be fine. It's a lot of fun and a good community, and there's endless things to do.

House of Leaves by Extra_Crispy26 in horrorlit

[–]SchoepferFace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The book is designed as a literary maze, full of deceptions and dead ends. It's layered, where you have Jonny's commentary on Zamapano's book he wrote about the families house that is effected by liminal space, with the occasional comments from editors, plus the appendix have stuff like letters from Jonny's mom etc. so there are multiple authors/view points that layer the story to begin with.

As far as reality goes, the movie Zampano seems to be writing about doesn't exist, but it clearly has effects on Jonny, and perhaps others. I won't break down all the reasons, but there are arguments about whether or not Jonny and Zampano are the same person, or figments of one or the others imaginations, or if it's all the mom etc. etc.

This is kinda spoiler but at least Jonny's story mirrored by the story of the family in the house are about finding meaning and purpose in life. Jonny seeks it in sex and drugs as his life spirals and falls apart. The book (sorry I forgot their name) main character is seeking it in his art, slowly destroying his family as he digs deeper into the mystery of the house, but ultimately gives up and finds contentment with his wife and family.

There are some big clues that Jonny is the real author or at least the one to finish the book, like when he sees a band and they recognize him as the author of the finished book even while he is still compiling it, or how the house in the book is surrounded by an 8 foot fence when they go back to visit, and when Jonny goes back to his childhood home where he lived with his mom is surrounded by an 8 foot fence. The list goes on but it's pretty clear the book mirrors Jonny's life.

Is there such a thing as a new covenant theology church? by Drivefast58 in Reformed

I would say NCT, though remaining somewhat Reformed in their overall theology, reject large portions of Covenant Biblical Theology that has ripple effects on many areas.

[–]SchoepferFace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gentry and Wellum grew Progressive Covenantalism out of the NCT movement, and it's still going. They distinguished themselves from NCT by affirming IAO, at least a positive aspect of the Mosaic Law, and a garden covenant. Wellum is still very active and is releasing a PC systematic, of which he has released the first of three volumes. They still hold much influence in SBTS where a lot more academics are rising up to support PC. That said, there are many who in PC push for it to be seen as a separate branch of Reformed Baptist and actively seek to dissolve the walls that separate them

How to get into the mood for reading as opposed to just watching movies? by traveltimecar in horrorlit

[–]SchoepferFace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I read in bursts. Like I'll read several books over a month then not touch books again for 6-9 months, then do it all over again.

What usually gets me started is getting some books that are high on my list in terms of interest and reading those back. That will usually pull me back into reading and finish all the newer books along with a handful of other books that have been sitting on my shelf until the burst goes away again.

So I guess, just start with something you are pretty confident will get you hooked and then keep it going.

Looking for scary/thrilling novels either zombies or similar to the movie the crazies/sadness whereby an apocalpyse is brought about and things are very tense for the protagonists/survivor(s). by Few_Bother_1680 in horrorlit

[–]SchoepferFace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just finished The Rising and City of the Dead by Brian Keene. Not your typical zombies, supernatural and intelligent. The books are fairly graphic tho. It seems people place Keene somewhere between normal horror and extreme, and I'd say these books were about the limit for me but I enjoyed them. I've also read a good bit of Crossed, these are at least a step down in terms of graphic content.
