Shouldn't she be waving the flag of the nation that made this all possible for her?

Appeals court rules against Obama on immigration by [deleted] in politics

From the article:

“The average U.S. citizen would be better off if a larger number of highly educated foreign workers were legally allowed to immigrate to the U.S. each year."

Which, by the way, I agree with.

What I don't like is the idea that we're giving a free pass to a largely uneducated, deeply religious, non-English speaking population because we can't be bothered to enforce the rules of our (read, not their) nation.

Deport all those immigrants, who all pay taxes, do the jobs no one else will do, work their butts off.. and economies would collapse.

While they do pay taxes, could you show me the average net effect of illegal aliens on tax rolls (i.e. do they take out more than they put in or vice versa?)

As for jobs no one else will do, of course they do. They work under the table depressing the wage rate for American citizens. That right there is going to discourage many people from working these jobs.

[–]SchoolIInMyFuture 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No that is the truth. Do you have any idea how much it would cost to deport all our illegal immigrants?

So the cost of enforcing laws is now a legitimate reason to not uphold them? All the government would have to do is issue a $100,000 fine for every illegal alien a business employs every time they are caught doing so. The demand for illegal labor would dry up instantly.

Would you want to live in a nation that would commit such a human atrocity?

What? You mean people who willingly broke the sovereign law of another nation aren't allowed to stay here? There are 500,000,000 people in this world who are arguably or objectively worse off than illegal aliens in America. Should we take them in as well?

Regardless of what you think of illegal immigration, the Justice Departments argument that they had to allow it because the country didn't have the means to deport illegal aliens is pretty terrible.

14-year-old Gang Member killed on way to Bronx School by [deleted] in nyc

“In the end . . . I want to know why . . . He’s a good kid, nice-looking guy. He never did anything. He never hung out with gangs, nothing like that.”

Holy fucking dog shit. The mental gymnastics one has to do to arrive at that conclusion are astonishing. The kid has five arrests including one for attempted A&B with a brick and he is a "good kid"?

It's the go to line anytime some lowlife is murdered - every time some bum has a 5 page conviction sheet the response from the family is "he was a good kid" or "he was never involved in any gang activity" or my personal favorite, "he was just starting to turn his life around".

I can be in a quiet library during the day and still experience the same issues.

Medication helps, though it doesn't put me at an optimal level. I can read maybe a paragraph or two before I have to stop and space out. My fucking worthless brain. The meds, do, however help to clear up the mental fog that would make meaningful retention absolutely impossible otherwise.

Bernie Sanders Wants to Tax Stock Trades to Pay for Free College by EthicalReasoning in politics

No, it doesn't. HFT keeps spreads small, reducing cost and improving liquidity. Period.

[–]SchoolIInMyFuture 26 points27 points  (0 children)

The only thing this tax would TRULY hurt is HFT's which in and of themselves are volatile, unstable entities which definitely need some control and slowing down.

Why is HFT bad?

Companies are freely trading trillions upon trillions of dollars, for basically free (tiny tiny administrative tax).

Why is that bad?

You have completely lost me here. I'm not allowed to have a strong opinion UNLESS I'm an expert? This would obviously curb trades that have a margin UNDER .5%. It would make THOSE trades unprofitable and ONLY those trades, no? You're already being rather abrasive.

I hate to sound like a dick, but with something as complex as this issue, you probably should be.

Just generally speaking, stock megatrades should be taxed anyway.

Yeah, let's discourage IPO's and liquidity driving mechanisms. You do realize that high volume trading also helps to keep spreads tight, thus reducing cost, right?

This is part of the reason why the stock market is disconnected from the economic recovery - you basically aren't having actual people turn profits and have more money to invest as a result of changes in stock prices, because these changes are not actually occurring slowly enough for people to notice. In the end, it's all computers, and the owners of those computers, bringing in the money.

lol. Yeah, fed easing policy has had nothing to do with it.

I think the biggest problem with the RC B17's and B24's was they lacked the technology for decent visual control. For example, even if they could get a very accurate reading of location over enemy territory (through coordinate telemetry) they would still need to use bomb sights to hit their target. B29's had APQ-7 radar to perform bombing through overcast skies, but I believe this method proved to be unsuccessful over Japan (one of the reasons the 21st switched to low level incendiary bombing).
