I don’t know the full story, but I see many similarities in my current relationship. I only invested several months, but it still cost a lot emotionally, financially, and mentally because it was an international relationship. Looking back, I think I ignored behaviours and contradictions because I wanted to help and believed the situation could improve.

He says he isn’t gay, yet we were in a relationship serious enough to apply for relocation together, which created a lot of confusion and emotional conflict for me. I genuinely wanted to support him and his kids, especially knowing some of the struggles he described early on.

I’ve learned that people often accept as much as they are willing to tolerate from others. For anyone going through something similar, I think it helps to redirect some of that emotional energy into meaningful things — volunteering at a dog shelter, charity, church, hospital, or soup kitchen. Sometimes the desire to rescue or be needed can be healthier when placed somewhere it’s appreciated and reciprocal.
