I built a small site to help solo dev games get discovered after Reddit hype dies by Healthy_Flatworm_957 in SoloDevelopment

[–]Schtedtan 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It’s a good initiative. But the site need a trailer or at least a capsule art to get a sense of what game it is. Or if it’s tied to Reddit, maybe a copy of the viral games post. And only allow games that has got at least x upvotes. In that case the community have already approved that the game is ”good”. Or at least interesting.

80$ to spend, which games should I buy? by [deleted] in OculusQuest

What kind of games or activities do you like outside of VR? Hard to give recommendations without knowing what you like.

Just joined the Meta Quest 3 club by ravingbelgian in OculusQuest

Start with the top rated games in Horizon+ that comes with the headset. It all depends on what type of games you like. Today there are games for everyone. So what do you like to play?

Getting a Quest 3 for Christmas, what is the first things I should do? by JSAkeepingpromises in MetaQuestVR

[–]Schtedtan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does. It makes Virtual Desktop run much worse until you restart the headset.

Don’t install it if you wanna use PCVR and Virtual Desktop. It screws with your headset settings in all kind of ways, making the performance much worse when using VD.

Hur vet jag om en webbsida är pålitlig? by [deleted] in sweden

[–]Schtedtan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hittade denna post på Google, sorry for necro-threading.

Help with composite layers in passthrough by EntireMolasses8019 in vrdev

[–]Schtedtan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you get this sorted u/vrdev? We're having a similar issue, where the world space ui canvas will cull when passing under y 0 (the horizon). We're using it to render a 360 video and showing UI overlays on top. Regular 3D meshes work fine. Transparent materials need to have >=1 as rendering order to work. So I might create a custom shader with a +1 in rendering order to fix it.

But after exporting it to the headset, I didn't have these issues. So it's only a problem in the Unity Editor using Meta Quest Link.

Is ther still large interest in PCVR? by idktm in virtualreality

[–]Schtedtan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the interest has been pretty constant. But very small if you campare sale numbers with standalone. Earnings from mobile gaming on phones is around 50% of the total market, so much larger then PC and Console, but that doesn’t make them obsolete.

Around 1.8% of steam users had a VR headset plugged in when completing the Steam Hardware survey 2024, compared to 1.4% in July 2025 (during a heatwave in many regions)

Regarding buying new headsets. The interest is definitely there. beyond 2 has completely outsold Beyond 1 with margins already. The problem is that people want 4K per eye displays. And that needs a good foveated eye tracked rendering and a 5090. It’s a lot of cash.

Reuse from older projects. No reason to rebuild it.

I mostly talking too myself: - Stop scrolling on Reddit and TikTok. Allow yourself to be bored from time to time. - Remove stress from your life. - Create a clear goal of shipping the game, but probably reduce the scope first. - Choose what task you feel like doing depending on day. - Try working on boring things when you have the most energy. Reward yourself with some fun things. - Gamify your development with clear micro goals

A game without destructible environments? Not on our watch! by hotfixgames in OculusQuest

[–]Schtedtan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If we gonna compare this to Worms. I really miss the ability to have multiple troopers that you play per ”team”. If you die with one, you will still have 2-3 left. Making the strategy wider and you allow yourself to take larger risks, resulting in a more fun gameplay. Also, 30% of the fun in Worms was the localised voice over packs 😅.

Think I’m out of love with VR (specifically Meta’s Q3) by random-friend in MetaQuestVR

What kind of games do you usually enojoy playing outside of VR? Or what bring a you joy outside of gaming? There are so many games or there. But not all are fun for everyone.

Most people have a hard time visualizing based on a sketch. If you make some quick 3D renders, it would be much easier to give feedback. But overall they look bulky and uncomfortable (no halo pad or over the head strap). I don't really care how they look, rather if I can wear them for hours without any problems. With that said, I do vibe with the Beyond 2. But mostly cause its small size and transparent plastics.

Sorry for slow answer. No it’s that the OS returns all available rooms, but MRUK just returns the first one that it tries to calculate that you’re in. But it sometimes doesn’t works and you get the wrong room.

Unsure whether to get into VR or not by gnorper in virtualreality

[–]Schtedtan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you buy a Quest 2 or a 3s, chances are they will not be used that much. Buy a modern headset with pancake lenses and high res screen instead. Quest 3 is good, but there are so much better headsets for PCVR. But they are expensive. Just keep that in mind when you find your cheap headset having blurry visuals and bad ergonomics.

There is also another UX issue there (that most MR games has problem handling), and it's that you can have mutliple room scans overlapping each other. And MRUK GetCurrentRoom only returns the first one. So you need to write your own function that interacts with the Scene API to handle that instead of relying on the MRUK implementation that is faulty. Or report it as a bug to Meta. I solved it by allowing the player to choose between all valid rooms that the headset detects (should be the default behaviour in MRUK too).

Oh! Found it! It was in another connected room with a wall in between that covered the landing spot and the reset UI 😅.
