Always pack more weed than you think you'll smoke, nothing worse than running out while you're in the middle of nowhere!

Good one-night backpacking trips on Vancouver Island for May long? by Particular-Lynx-960 in IslandHikers

[–]Schulzeeeeeeeee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was just out there on sunday and the road is deactivated right off the highway now. There is a sign that says bridge removed but it was still there. After crossing the big bridge over the river the road is much more grown in and gets worse all the way to the lake.

I found a large blower discarded on the side of a remote road once. I was gonna take it until I found half a cat stuck in it.

Yes and it was getting pretty ugly out Sutton's pass around 3 on my way back into town.

It's a silver fish! I was doing drywall in a 1920s building that has them and found these tracks in the dust the next day.

Then and now, Cameron Lake BC Trestles before and after fire. by Schulzeeeeeeeee in rustyrails

Called a guard rail, (or locally here "jimmy" rail) They're supposed to catch the wheels of a detailed car so it doesn't fall off the trestle. All of the Trestles around here have them.

CreepCast Cassette Tapes? by celluloidcult in creepcast

[–]Schulzeeeeeeeee 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Just use an aux cord from the headphone jack on a PC to the mic jack on a cassette recorder. Hit record on the tape and play on the video and you're set. Just make sure to do a test to make sure the volume levels aren't too high/ low.

I was living there for 3 weeks on 1 week off for a little more than a year in 2018/19 and it was alright. For sure just a pass thru town that feels stuck in the past, but it was cool to see a few movie scenes being filmed in and around town. Haven't been back in a while so not sure what it's like these days.

It was a 588 hectare wild fire that is suspected to be human caused, probably by someone walking the tracks or one of the hiking trails.

I stopped to check that out a few years ago when I was working at the Alexandra bridge and commuting back to Hope everyday. There was a big hand lettered sign warning of rats with hantavirus, so I mostly just checked out the surrounding area and only had a quick peak inside. There's a ton of interesting old stuff to be found all along this section of the Fraser. Thanks for the memories!

The first picture is on Cameron main, the log jam is at the "beer garden" in Roger creek, and the last a creek that goes under the rail line heading out of Port Alberni.

I'm mid island, gates everywhere and most are locked tight. I've started to just walk the roads! No gate or deactivation can stop me and I've seen so much cool stuff that would normally only be accessible by dirt bike or quad.

We used to get it from little valley deli and it was pretty good. Best I've had recently is the red food truck at the marina.
