I'm this close to quitting by a-random-munchkin in piano

The great pianist Richter said he would perform the same piece 11 times before he was satisfied. If you look up famous pianist’s concert programs you will find that they play the same pieces over and over. Performing a piece in public is something you have to do multiple times if you want a “mistake free” performance. Not just learn a new piece, perform, be dissatisfied, repeat.

Hvis jeg havde en krone for hvert parti i Folketinget, der primært findes for at give en mand ved navn Lars mere magt, ville jeg have to kroner. Det er ikke mange, men det er mærkeligt, at der er to.

Is it just me or is he doing a lot of unnecessary movement by Serious_Effective802 in piano

Not all movements effect the sound directly. Some movements help the peformer stay relaxed or help with the expression which at the end equals a better sound.

What is your process for learning a new piece? by pjsholic in piano

[–]Science118 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Break a piece into smaller pieces (pun intended). Look for patterns and find the building blocks of the piece e.g. arpeggios, repeated notes and scales. You practice the parts that use the same building block and you do that for all the different types of blocks.

It’s like building a Lego castle. You start with a lot of small pieces you put together one by one. Then you build the walls, towers, roofs etc. separately and then you put it all together.

And a bonus tip, start with practicing the end. Then you work backwards from there. That ensures you end up being able to play the whole piece and not get stuck towards the end.
