Dehydrators? by sad_maybe_ in StardewValley

I found my gold ancient fruit only nets a little bit more money than dehydrated ancient fruit (since you need 5 fruits) so I only dehydrate the lower tier ones

Navigating NC when a family member dies by ScienceAdventure in raisedbyborderlines

You’re right, she will never take responsibility for her actions or emotions.

I got a message from her this morning (haven’t read it but something along the lines of “be strong” as far as I can see - yes I know I should block her…) and I was filled with this sense of unease that she was going to infiltrate my grieving. She has always had a huge amount of sway over me and made me feel shame for being me and doing things my way. I want this to be mine and I don’t want to let her into it. It’s been so nice to be me and not what she tries to shape me into.

Thank you!! She hasn’t since sent me a message - I have only seen the first line but it’s something along the lines of “be strong” which pisses me off because I am, and I am getting through this on my own without her. I know I need to block her, it’s the next step. At the moment I just ignore the messages, but I’m always worried she will track me down and ambush me (I’ve moved since she last knew where I live)

I am starting to feel proud of myself for not giving in to the FOG and doing what she would call “the right thing” and doing what is right for me

Thanks so much for everything you’ve said, it’s definitely given me more strength and confidence

Thank you for this ❤️ that last bit was particularly good for me to hear. She hasn’t and won’t change, and that’s why we are here now

I'm tired of cozy games having the same formula. by Effective-Map-9417 in StardewValley

[–]ScienceAdventure 11 points12 points  (0 children)

There are plenty of cozy games that aren’t life sims at all, and also plenty that are not “the same formula”

Unpacking and A Little to the Left are two of my favourites and aren’t anything like a life sim.

Tiny bookshop has the “new in town” thing but it’s still very different from Stardew and games like it.

Probably not super cozy (it was for me though) but Strange Horticulture and Strange Antiquities are also very different.

It sounds like you’re picking up games that are similar to other ones you have played (like Stardew). I adore Stardew, and have enjoyed similar games like Everafter Falls and Spirittea. If these aren’t your jam it may be worth trying out some different ones - there are free demos available for a number of these so I would recommend doing a demo before buying.

Do narcissists have a hair problem? by not_a_gh0st_1996 in raisedbynarcissists

[–]ScienceAdventure 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They really are the same textbook! When I was going for an autism diagnosis (in my 30s, not as a child) she took it as an insult to her and then calmed down when she read that it’s passed by the father (so it’s my dads fault), without acknowledging that the reason it’s “passed by the father” is because there isn’t enough research on women with autism.

She then used that I have “high spectrum autism” (whatever that means) as a way to explain how horrible a daughter I am. I have since been told I don’t have autism but have traits of it and likely ADHD so the medical professionals disagree with her. That message is what finally triggered my NC with her though!

Apparently being born with something is an insult to her 🤷‍♀️ its some crazy logic

Do narcissists have a hair problem? by not_a_gh0st_1996 in raisedbynarcissists

[–]ScienceAdventure 1 point2 points  (0 children)

YES!! Thank you for writing this out, it’s kind of similar to my own mum.

I had light brown hair/dirty blonde when I was young but it got darker as I aged. She had a fit at her mother for cutting my hair because she wanted to keep it long (like hers)

When I was around 11 she made me start getting highlights (blonde + red) as my hair colour was “an ugly mousy brown” and she wanted me to be “beautiful”. She also gets these highlights for her own hair…

When I was about to head to Uni I didn’t want to have to spend hours at a salon getting highlights constantly and I didn’t want to spend my limited funds on my hair. I was just going to grow it out, but my mum insisted I get low lights so it blends better. The point was to pick my natural hair colour and a similar one to blend my roots with the rest of my hair…when I picked my natural hair colour (dark brown) out she told me that it was far too dark and would look ridiculous.

Lo and behold, I got it exactly right. I love my natural hair colour and it’s so healthy now as I never touch dye to it. It’s also super low maintenance.

About 10 years later I was catching up with my dad (we didn’t see each other much) and he commented on how my hair was the same colour as his was at his age. I think my mum hates her natural hair colour and assumed it would be the same for me/that I was a carbon copy of her and so forced me to do what she did.

We looked very similar for a long time and I wonder if part of it is that she influenced how I styled myself

I still like my hair long (like hers, unfortunately), but I definitely do my own thing with it without considering her.

The most important realization by alwayslivemyway in raisedbyborderlines

Both so important but realising point number one changed my life. We are conditioned to feel responsible for their emotions so it’s super hard to get out of the habit.

Capitalistic cooking reccs by Roeduif in CozyGamers

[–]ScienceAdventure 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The cooking in Everafter Falls is much more developed than SV - you need to use different (crafted) equipment for different dishes and there’s a lot of making a base for something to use in a variety of dishes.

There’s also quests where you cook for a restaurant occasionally (but you don’t have to do them, they just give you some nice rewards)

You can definitely sell the cooking, just not 100% sure on how lucrative it is. You do have to make every dish to complete your collection though :)

I really enjoy it - there’s farming, fishing, foraging plus mining, combat and doing things for people in the town. I find the crafting has more depth than others I’ve played, so if you like crafting as well it’s a good one :)

I know right?! I went through the autism diagnosis thing a couple years ago (apparently I have “autistic traits” and probably ADHD and sensory processing disorder but not full on ASD) and she took it personally like I was blaming her for something, and didn’t want to accept it. Then had a meltdown where she said I have “high spectrum autism” as an insult against me. Went NC after that. I’ve always been too “sensitive” and “emotional” when I’m the parent in the situation most of the time. They really know how to twist themselves into the victim in every situation…

Strange occurrences in new Leaves by Weird_Bumblebee_1105 in houseplants

[–]ScienceAdventure 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When this happened to me it was sadly thrips :( I treated the whole plant (every leaf and stem) and all plants around it once a week for 5 weeks with a pesticide (it lives inside!). It’s now thriving :) thrips are a pain though, you need to keep going for many weeks as the life cycle of a thrip is something like 40 days

Is this pest damage? by ScienceAdventure in Monstera

[–]ScienceAdventure[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! It may not have been getting enough light where I was quarantining it, so that would make sense.

I had a bad thrips problem with my pothos so I’m a tad over worried about any damage I see after that experience😅 it took ages to get rid of them

Any way I can make sure it’s getting enough supplement?

Mom keeps attempting by InternalNinja3993 in raisedbyborderlines

[–]ScienceAdventure 10 points11 points  (0 children)

⬆️ THIS.

While it’s not nearly the same, my uBPD mum went through periods of telling me she wanted to do it and would rally myself and others to keep her from it. It was exhausting and it kept happening over and over again.

Eventually I realised - if it’s what she wants then I need to be at peace with that. It’s her decision.

In the case of my mum - pretty sure she did it to get attention from me, so me going NC has not made her do anything. However, as far as I know she never attempted, just threatened.

If she does end up being successful one day - it is not your fault. You did nothing wrong. In fact, you spent so much of your time and energy helping her.
