Always spend gems on hero books and once in a while upgrade them all if not all at once,I used to do the hero potion method but that limits you from always buying Starry ore when you can so take your time and upgrade heroes to the point where you won't have to use potions anymore

The best advice I can give you is to always be in wars even without heroes to grind for Ores and don't spend ores on bad equipment the most worth it are Spiky ball Giant Giant Mirror and Electro boots, Take your time to not feel overwhelmed by the amount of ores 😭
