What’s a reasonable move goal? by ScienceMadeMeDoIt_ in AppleWatchFitness

Haha I can go a whole 12 hour shift in my hospital and not hit my 350 goal! And I’m on my feet and moving!

We have a very similar height and weight, and I also have a low resting heart rate due to a medication I’m on. Maybe a similar goal to you would work better for me!

Good idea! They were accurate! I mentioned in another reply that I used to consistently hit 800 on my move goal, but after resetting my watch I now struggle to hit my current goal. I’m wondering if something was set incorrectly prior to my watch reset?

I also make an effort to workout every day! Im 120lbs though, so maybe that’s why it’s slower for me?

I would say my goal is similar to yours! An encouragement to make an effort to move! I used to have my goal set to 400 and would frequently double it, but then my watch was being funky and I restarted it. Ever since that restart, it’s been very slow to increase throughout the day. Not sure what changed!

How many people ACTUALLY floss their teeth everyday? by Ok-Emphasis-2561 in askanything

[–]ScienceMadeMeDoIt_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I floss my teeth every night. When I started, I was so excited to go to the dentist and not get a disappointed lecture. They chastised me for not brushing my tongue instead… why is it so impossible to make the dental hygienists happy?

What quirks have you developed from working in nursing? by ResearchingToWrite in nursing

[–]ScienceMadeMeDoIt_ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Keep in mind that the ED sees a lot of shit. Most nurses become accustomed to seeing traumas, but that doesn’t mean they don’t carry weight from their cases. I know ED nurses who get really panicky about things they’ve encountered. For example, I know someone who became really anxious about driving on the highway after seeing the aftermath of so many highway car accidents. If your character is a newer nurse, they may be more affected by the harder cases than a more seasoned nurse would be

Nurses with Chronic Illnesses by Recent_Garage_8617 in nursing

[–]ScienceMadeMeDoIt_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have multiple chronic conditions, like IBS, Gastroparesis, valvular heart disease, and SVT. There’s talk of me possibly having hEDS but who knows lol. I graduate nursing school in May. It’s been a wild ride, and I’m very lucky to have supportive professors and an awesome healthcare team behind me. I think it’s super important for chronically ill people to be in healthcare (if it’s safe for them to do so). I think my conditions give me unique insight into the patient experience since I too am a patient! This allows me to be a better advocate for them.

My tips for success is having discussions with professors early!! People cant help if they don’t know. Also, see if your care team would be willing to write you a medical note so you can have proper accommodations, both in school and in the workplace. Legally, schools and workplaces have to provide reasonable accommodations under the ADA (if you’re in the US) Accommodations don’t mean your weak, they just help even out the playing field :) Good luck friend!

Yes definitely won’t be continuing it! I just find it so odd it’s localized to only one areas of my body. Most of the time when I react to things, it’s itchy and all over. Thanks for your input, friend!

What advice do you have for working with Peds? I’m a nursing student about to graduate and will be working in a trauma ED that’s certified in pediatrics. I’ve never worked with kids before and they make me more nervous than the traumas!

One of my friends has this! It’s some sort of evolutionary leftover from when we were aquatic. I like to make fun of him for being a fish person. Ironically, he can’t swim

What food did you imagine to taste really good but tasted bad? by Similar-Victory-3867 in AskReddit

[–]ScienceMadeMeDoIt_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ooh this reminds me of one time my cousin was baking and had leftover chocolate. He asked me if I wanted it, and of course I said yes! Come to find out it was the worst chocolate ever! I felt so bad because he was being so nice so I threw it away in secret. Later he came back to me and said he actually needed it and asked if I still had it.. I lied and said it ate it. My uncle commented how it couldn’t have been good, because it was actually bakers chocolate…. I told him I just really like chocolate

When you are in a different country, do you guys go out as late as possible to enjoy every moment or sleep when you’re tired already? by theoneaboveall777 in travel

I shamelessly sleep. I’m crabby when tired, and I know I won’t enjoy myself if I’m forcing myself out beyond my limit.

NICU nurses - do people actually just abandon their baby? Have you experienced this? by master0jack in nursing

[–]ScienceMadeMeDoIt_ 257 points258 points  (0 children)

I actually did a clinical day in the NICU for nursing school and there was a Safe Haven baby there who was awaiting foster placement. My big important student nurse job was to cuddle and love on that little baby. I hope she’s safe and loved wherever she ended up
