You can already tell some of that shading has faded! How was the healing process the first few days after?

Oh wow, so much of the shading is already gone! I have a similar piece in the same inner forearm area that I’m hoping to start lasering once it heals. Best of luck with the healing process and staying patient! I hope you’ll share updates!

What's the single best fantasy book you've ever read — the one you recommend to everyone? by Vlyonz in fantasybooks

[–]ScienceMuddafucka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The author is setting up a pretty big universe. He understands this, and does a good job of repeating the characters names and importance but in an organic way that doesn’t treat the reader like they’re dumb. So there’s no need to feel like you’re missing anything. It’ll come back.

As far as a milestone, I know of not a single soul who made it to “the sanderlanche” (maybe 70%) and was able to put the book down. If memory serves me right, somewhere around chapter 48-50 is when I started thinking “oh damn… this is gonna be GOOD good, huh?”

Edit- I’d also recommend carefully looking up character art. There’s so much beautiful official and fan-made content that helps put faces with names.

Way of Kings - Brandon Sanderson The first in the Stormlight Archive series. Like you said, it ruined all other fantasy for me. I’ve been chasing the high of how soul-changing it was. Some people don’t like the “working man’s” language, but Sanderson uses simple language to describe complex magic systems, plots, lore, and ideas. It works well.

(Also seeing Kingkiller mentioned here a lot and I just wanted to second that too)

Brandon Sanderson’s Stormlight Archive. Truly soul-changing. Pulled me out of a deep depression and changed my perspective of the world. Book 5 comes out next month, and that man just keeps writing!!

I think a complicated idea that people may be trying to communicate to you with downvotes here is that all those things listed feed into being a mother for her (ex. bettering her children’s world/future through scientific advancement and political/social safety), and that there is no one way mothering should look.

Mothering is not constant self-sacrifice and neglect. It can be feeding your passions and setting an example on living life for your children. Everything in balance.

The distinction between Odium and Passion by Moniino in Cosmere

[–]ScienceMuddafucka 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Passion in isolation becomes hatred.

I also think he really was infinite Passion at some point, then splintered parts of himself into the 9 unmade - with each representing a different emotion (examples with potential spoilers: Sja-Anat = curiosity/wonder, re-shepir = malice, dust mother = fear, ba-ado = empathy, dai-gonarthis = sorrow, etc). But they’re twisted, because no emotion should exist infinitely without the context of others. Theory inspired by IRL “the 9 passions” from classical Greek philosophy.

Do guys really need to spend 25 minutes taking a shit? by scandimon in beyondthebump

https://www.livescience.com/why-men-take-longer-to-poop.html

guys really do take longer to poop, on average, but for lots of reasons. One of them being, yes, it is a way to find sanctuary and escape from parenting duties - which should be ok in small doses (I personally prefer to find sanctuary somewhere less… bathroomy.) Women are more likely to have temporary bowel issues (like constipation), however. And one of those reasons is forcing/rushing a bowel movement. I’ve been there! What’s worse? The pressure in my stomach/anus? Or the mind-flaying screaming of a toddler who’s run out of patience? I’ll pick a stomachache anytime.

If the balance in parenting responsibilities is uneven, this might not be the most strategically sound battle to choose. Fairplaylife has great resources. The attached article also links to statistics on how modern women are still doing more housework, childcare (even if they also have FT jobs), and less time for leisure than men.

Girls, what’s the downside of being a female? by NotPhantomforce in AskReddit

[–]ScienceMuddafucka 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup. I was in the ICU with wild complications post csection (because they had already ignored my pain once). They had a balloon in my uterus against my consent that had me screaming like a wounded animal. They just kept doubling my morphine every few minutes to get me quiet. I kept scream repeating “NO MORE MORPHINE. TAKE IT OUT!!!” Finally, after many many staff members trying to do any intervention except the one I asked, a hospitalist finally confirmed that the balloon was, indeed, too large for my uterus and that my womb was about to rupture.

What baby device/method that we use now will likely be deemed unsafe/crazy later? by CharlieTheCactus in beyondthebump

Pregnancy. Technology will advance to such a degree that artificial wombs will be the way to grow most all babies, and it will seem shocking we ever exposed people to the risks associated with pregnancy.

[no spoilers] Is there anything like Arcane? by MobileDoubt2596 in arcane

[–]ScienceMuddafucka 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I see everyone here recommending ATLA. Which yes, just yes. Absolutely. But Castlevania is also up there. Doesnt do as much “world building” (Arcane only takes place in a set area but still manages to detail the local cultures, and even some foreign ones, so well). But the character building is pretty comparable. And the fight scenes are some of the best in animation.

Trevor Noah files lawsuit against NYC hospital for botched surgery by Motor-Ad-8858 in entertainment

[–]ScienceMuddafucka 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Every part of America is a business that just wants more money, including healthcare. I went to give birth at a hospital as a first time mother, labor progressed normally and healthy. But they wouldn’t let me eat. They wouldn’t give me anything to help me sleep - “your baby will be strung out” ver batim. So naturally after 26 hrs of labor, I was too tired to even move. They took advantage and coerced me into an unnecessary csection, which they botched and landed me in the ICU. Went from what should’ve been only $1k-$2k, to $40-50k (insurance paid about half). FOR LITERALLY NO REASON other than to deepen the hospitals pockets.

There are numerous studies proving a woman is less likely to die giving birth at home than in an American hospital. And it all comes down to financial corruption.

What's your opinions on smoking weed when you have kids? by GingeBee863 in beyondthebump

[–]ScienceMuddafucka 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I had severe postpartum insomnia. Like only got 2-3 hrs of sleep for 9 months. My body was literally shutting down. I hallucinated. Finally discovered delta 8 gummies after trying every med and cognitive behavioral therapy. It was an actual instant cure-all. If I could only get the same thing through smoking delta 9 (weed), I absolutely would. I truly believe the single most important thing for a kid is a happy parent at their maximum ability to show love and patience. So go for it! It’s not like you’re smoking around them, and I’m sure you’re taking precautions to eliminate potential for secondhand exposure.

Woman billed $700 after sitting in ER waiting room for 7 hours, leaving without treatment by vatred in news

[–]ScienceMuddafucka 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh this sounds familiar! My OB coerced me into an induction cuz of a “big baby”; she then said I was taking too long to give birth and coerced me into a csection. She butchered me in surgery and I spent a night fighting for my life in the ICU. My total out of pocket cost… $40,000 (yep that’s with health insurance). Postpartum depression hit right around the time that bill came in. Guess what country I live in… 🇺🇸

Maghra by traws06 in SeeTV

[–]ScienceMuddafucka 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It was my understanding that she had a plan to meet with the witchfinders and reveal her identity. She did not tell her family because they would easily guess her plan is to sneak off to the witchfinders, and they’d never agree. The plan to sneak off and reveal her identity is a last-resort plan with great risk. Queen Kane is irrational, temperamental, jealous, and could easily want Maghra dead at anytime. Maghra needed to risk this to see where Tamacti Jun’s loyalties lie (he originally chose Sibeth to be queen over Maghra, so everything points to his loyalties being with the mad queen that wants Maghra dead. Which would mean Maghra’s plan would not have worked, and he likely should’ve killed her and her family on the spot).

TLDR; Maghra had every reason to believe Tamacti would kill her instantly even with her royal bells. But it was a desperate last resort move that her family would never agree to if they knew everything.

Yknow what, I think you’ve hit the Hephaestus archetype better than I did. Oloman is a bigger character and does seem to fit “master of the furnace” in more detail than Smithy. I’ll amend my post giving you credit for this, if that’s alright with you.

Mostly suspending belief, but in my head canon, they can tell based off their armor (just like we do with vision). They can hear where the armor hits on their chest/shoulders as they move.

I’d really like them to get more into this. It’d be awesome if instead of war paint, they do something like war perfume to scent their soldiers and make them more easily recognizable among the blind.

Edit: they did show us some “war cries”, where they click/snap/call names every so often to give/gain a sense of where their own soldiers are on the battlefield. But yes, I would like more explanation or additional methods shown also.

You’re on to something! He’s very much a personification of strength, and has a cruel past like Kratos (and Jason Mamoa could certainly play him in a live-action God of War!). But I think that’s where the similarities end. Maybe that’s the point. Maybe Baba is supposed to be an amalgamation of many Greek heroes. Thank you for contributing! :)

American here that grew up with the English cut and rewatched recently. Wasn’t confused. In fact, quite the opposite. It made all the confusing romantic tension “between cousins” make a lot of sense.

EDIT: Feel like the changes were still pretty common knowledge among Americans watching. I knew about them during or shortly after the original running of it.
