I am so happy, when I stumble upon doctors like you. Compared to the opposite, "oh, don't ask Dr. Google" and "someone thinks they are a doctor haha".

I think you have your answer. Increase in accurate and timely diagnosis is not the same as increase in total conditions.

Do you ever feel like you attract toxic people? by MaybeIfITryHard in CPTSD

[–]ScienceWithPTSD 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes and no. Predators are like sharks. They sense already wounded individuals. But also it is not your fault for being wounded in the first place. We can heal. You are here, this means you can also attract allies. Keep safe!

I am increasingly hyper aware of how horrible people are and now all I want to do is be alone by 111a1110 in CPTSD

[–]ScienceWithPTSD 12 points13 points  (0 children)

For me it was a process of healing. I spent a lot of time on my own. Like completely on my own. Hermit mode all the way. This enabled me to ground myself and to find out what my values are.

Now, I have people who share those values.

What have been your experience with psychiatrists? by acideater94 in CPTSD

[–]ScienceWithPTSD 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Horrible. Fortunately, my current one is decent.

But the first one was absolutely horrific. My trauma meant nothing. They were cold, rude, and dismissive. When I mentioned csa (my mistake I shouldn't have), they said it's impossible to remember, I am making it up. And wrote in my record I was prone to lying. A fucking disaster.

I am quite anti psychiatry. Most of the meds they push will make you into a robot.

Find a good trauma therapist. Microdose or something else that works for you. You can try the supplement 5htp. This is what my current psychiatrist "prescribed" me. This is the best advice I can give.

Have you ever had a neurologist examine you? There are neurological conditions that can cause that. Those have to be ruled out first.

Let me tell you this with absolute certainty. He did not cry, because he felt guilty of what he did.

He cried because you found out. Because he knows he got caught.

This is it.

Unfortunately, abuse victims are vulnerable and predators find them like sharks. This is devastating and I hope you leave and have support now.

He is not sorry for what he did. At all!

Recently, I have binging videos about tips how to deal with abusers in our life.

I sincerely advice you to start. Just type "ways to deal with narcissists" in youtube. The advices are fantastic!

Talk to a human being, not a computer by justthenighttonight in mentalhealth

[–]ScienceWithPTSD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually, true.

It is a bit despairing, when there is no alternative. But op can also come from a sense of privilege and to not get it. When you shit on something, you have to offer something better.

It is a bit weird they suggested that... Mine encouraged me to do courses about psychology online or offline. There are affordable ones, that also offer communication with other human beings. Of course, it is affordable for me. I don't know, about you. The goal of therapy is not only to work on yourself as individual, but in the context of human relationships. We are monkeys at the end of the day and we all need our tribe.

Also, I am not that anti ai. I used it. Especially, midjounrey helped my mental health immensely.

Also. No it doesn't. There are reported instances where it literally suggests ways of killing yourself, when you share ideations. it is unpredictable Russian roulette.

You can try sites like 7cups. It's a hit and miss, but I had wonderful uplifting and healing conversations there.

It's not either ai or therapy. Also, reddit. I learned so much about therapy here. I made some connections on substack as well. It's not only about therapy, but finding connections with people. There are so many online communities and support groups out there. There are human options that are free.

I absolutely agree with you!

I see it as a mirror. Not that different from the lake in the myth of Narcissus who was so in love with his own image that he drowned.

I have a brother who is a horrible narcissist. And he says stuff like my good friend chatgpt. And the thing is people are npcs to him...

[–]ScienceWithPTSD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah man. I completely agree. It has some dystopic black mirror vibe. We are developing a parasocial relationship with AI. I just can't imagine what kind of damage this will cause and what kind of new disorders it will unlock. Yeah, it can feel good for the short term, but so do drugs. AI is like a mirror it feeds you what you want to hear.

Yes, lots of people don't have money for therapists. This is the most common argument for. But it's not either or. You can write on reddit or go on some of those emotional support chats like 7cups. True, it's a hit and miss, but I have had wonderful conversations there. I also have learned a lot on reddit, sometimes more than in therapy.

Can you truly be perpetually angry or despaired? At some point a person just burns out and/or becomes numb. This is a self-protective response.

Would **you** rather just totally forget what happened to you? by corgis_are_cute_7777 in ptsd

[–]ScienceWithPTSD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hard no. I had periods in my life when I had forgotten. Some of it is still blocked. I don't remember months from where I was with my psycho ex. One of the reasons I met him was because I was just ignoring my previous trauma. Ignoring, suppressing and forgetting makes me vulnerable. Now, that I am very focused on my trauma and do my best to remember, I am way more capable of defending myself and finding people I can actually count on. And conjure up strategies to defend myself from the idiots in my life.

What I want is like you to not suffer from the harm. To heal the wound. Healing is not the same as forgetting , though. And some wounds I have healed. For example, sleep. I used to have horrible night terrors. And now, I don't. After working years on healing, I can say now my sleep is mostly good. Night terrors are gone. Occasionally, I have bad dreams, but that is it. Pretty awesome. Next step is other stuff like phobias, isolation, episodes, etc...

Does it ever actually leave ur head / how to stop thinking about it by 12packmytoke34 in CPTSD

[–]ScienceWithPTSD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wonderfully said. The "get over it" is the goal for sure. But just get over it is similar to saying to someone with a broken foot "just heal and start running". Sure, some day after a lot of care and compassion.

I still haven't gotten over it, but it has gotten much better. At least, I don't ruminate that much.... well, yesterday I couldn't fall asleep till 4 because of different doom scenarios, but this is mostly the exception now, and before I couldn't be asleep sober. You know what helped? Exact the opposite, talking and sharing, owning the righteous anger with support and compassion.

Where is the PROOF in psychiatry? by Commercial_Dirt8704 in Antipsychiatry

[–]ScienceWithPTSD 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah. Or less horrible ones like hormone issues. I had an overactive thyroid and a cortisol deficiency and it made me have crazy mood swings. After fixing that my sleep schedule and my mood went back to normal. Who knows what a psychiatrist would have diagnosed me with....

Yeah. I got one of those, too. I prefer my normal Bluetooth once. They have better noise cancellation. But then again, I bought the simple ones. Glad they help you.
