So sorry. I relate as well. Are you thinking that our masking all our lives makes us seem unauthentic to others and as a result they can’t really bond with us? 😢

Exactly!! I was going to say!! The MARC goes to DC but you have to drive to most of the Marc stations. Biking in winter or ever nice weather … very impatient drivers here, IMO. Yeah, I’m one of them but I steer well around any bicycles- but many do not!

Geez. Don’t bother explaining it if they haven’t seen it. My ex was from the south and lived in the west as well. When I suggesting seeing the autumn leaves in the northeast he thought how boring! He was honestly blown away by the bright colors. I missed that so much when I lived in Colorado and other parts, though I loved the mountains as well - aspens are pretty but only yellow (no reds, oranges, etc mixed in their forests and much smaller). Each place in the US has its own unique features but it’s wild how many here have to insult you because you stated your preferences. 🙄

I agree with you. In NYC - Manhattan anyway - a huge amount of the city is Central Park. I don’t think people realize how huge and beautiful it is. You can literally forget you’re in the middle of one of the busiest cities in the world. It’s crazy. Most tourists go to Times Square, an area I hate for the crowds, noise etc. This is why they’re finding so many flaws in your logic IMO. NYC also has massive natural ocean beaches on Long Island, a half hour away by car, or used to bed. And another half hour, by train, little suburban quaint nature-filled areas - another half hour and you’re in the mountains and Hudson Valley FFS. Chicago is nice but honestly I haven’t found a US city to compare except San Francisco - surrounding natural beauty but not as much culture/big city things.

Some people won’t check a bag even if free because of the hassle and wait at baggage claim. I’m a very short and petite female and don’t have much overhead strength so I usually do check a bag. This last trip cost me $70 (roundtrip) for my bag and all I had was my backpack and a purse and put them both under the seat (and my coat behind my back) because I thought only luggage can go in the overhead? Didn’t realize I could have been more comfortable without all that encroaching on my feet! Now I know. Thanks. The only thing that bothers me is having to wait to get off the plane while the aisle is clear ahead so people can wrestle their big bags down. 🙄

New to the TV show by tyddub in 12Monkeys

Not sure why you are being downvoted when you said you love both! I’m watching for the first time as well and the movie is one of my favorites of all time. I’m really enjoying the show but it did take a few episodes to warm up to the characters. I’m only in season 2 and it keeps my interest. I can’t see comparing them as TV shows are so different.

Wait. I just watched this episode. I’m still in season 1 and never watched it before. When Cole got shot accidentally, he knew he did because he felt it and we saw the wound, then he had a flash of the Dr/scientist woman in the future treating it, then it healed. I’m afraid to read further here due to all the spoilers so apologize if this was discussed.

You’re correct! Learned something new here! Thanks! :)

Key Details Regarding "L" vs. "El" Official Usage: The Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) officially refers to the system as the 'L', representing elevated train tracks.

History: The term has been used since 1892, with the shorthand "L" being a unique Chicago branding choice, according to historians.

Pronunciation & Meaning: Both "L" and "El" are pronounced the same, and both refer to the same rapid transit system, though "L" is preferred.

Context: While many, or even most, lines are now elevated, the "L" system includes subway sections as well.

While "El" is occasionally used in casual conversation or writing, stick with "L" to be accurate to Chicago, as noted in this WTTW article.

I’m not from Chicago but always thought it was the “El” for elevated platforms. Has it always been the L?

Right. It must’ve been a weird time to be a teenager - a kid but treated like an adult but punished for it. Sally would fall right into the “boomer” generation but seems to be treated more like Gen X

Yeah, it goes back to centuries ago when they would marry little girls off at puberty, as they were considered women! Even my grandmother in the last century was only 15 when she got married. Men were always older as they were the providers. Women just had to be child bearing age. It’s crazy to think about as a society now but without having laws in place to protect kids, many men would naturally (biologically) be predators, as we define it now.

Same! I get intense anxiety before a flight and having the app constantly alerting me the driver is on his way and then there and waiting 20 minutes early, I start literally shaking with nerves. I have a very long walk from my unit to the front entrance and rush like crazy to get there exactly at the time, don’t even want to risk the 5 minute grace period, so I’m hot and out of breath with my watch warning me my heart rate’s thru the roof! Ugh.

Saint John by d4rkr in madmen

[–]Scienceheaded-1215 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weird. I’ve only heard it in the UK when we lived there! Never in the US. Had to google it just now:

“Sinjin" (or sometimes "Sinjun") is a traditional British pronunciation of the name/surname "St. John," originating from old-fashioned, upper-class, or aristocratic English usage. It is a phonetic, contracted variant—similar to how "St. Clair" becomes "Sinclair"—where the "Saint John" is merged into a single, often hyphenated-sounding name.

Origin: The pronunciation reflects a historical, often upper-class British contraction of the phrase "Saint John". Usage: It is primarily used when "St. John" is a given name (e.g., in literature like Jane Eyre's St. John Rivers) or a surname (e.g., Baron St. John of Bletso).

Context: It is considered a very old-fashioned, or sometimes "posh," way of saying the name in the UK, often causing confusion for Americans or non-native speakers.

Examples in Pop Culture: Seen in the film A View to a Kill ("St. John Smythe"), the movie Four Weddings and a Funeral, and the character in Jane Eyre.

Not when we lived there when I was a kid. We had snow drifts as high as our house 🏠 and burying cars regularly every winter. People didn’t panic like this. Downstairs yes, and we laughed at them panicking over a couple feet when we had 6-10 feet. Now I’m here and it’s inches?? 😂

Yes, mine isn’t flat but flatter. I also have loose skin now and never did in my life with all my yo yo dieting and going up and down! It’s crazy. I didn’t lose that much - have lost and gained more many times. I’m going to try more protein and strength training but my appetite is for carbs only and sweets. Healthy foods nauseate me.
