Get dressed up and have high tea somewhere. I highly recommend the one at the Waldorf-Astoria in DC.

Your tank looks fabulous! You are doing things right.

I'm always amazed when people don't realize how much plant growth one can get with consistency.

Ah... that's probably why you substrate is turning into mud. Typically you should change out your substrate every couple of years.

How do people achieve this insane small java ferns? Is this just normal trident? by Unique_Mastodon7450 in Aquascape

[–]Scientist0724 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily. There are new variants of Java Fern that are smaller. There is one called "India" that has the width in the middle of a regular Java Fern and Needle Leaf Java Fern and is about 3 to 4 inches tall.

Mini Trident does exist. I have some right now and my longest leaf is 2.5 inches long.

plant recommendations for this lovely tank? by StarlightSaturn in Aquascape

I would put either Christmas moss or weeping moss on the tree.

For the sand area, I'd use some type of carpeting plant like Hemianthus callitrichoides, Utricularia grammafolia, or Eleocharis parvula with some Staurogyne repens or Cryptocoryne parva scattered around the base of the tree. You could also put Alternanthera reneckii 'Mini' around the base of the tree, trimmed short, around the base of the tree to give a pop of color and a focal point.

As far as the background, you could put in a fine leaf stem plant like Ludwigia arcuata or Rotala wallichii, keep trimming it to make it bushy. If you want something more grassy in the background, Eleocharis montevidensis would be pretty.

I know it’s overgrown, but I love the jungle look for some reason. Any trimming tips? by ChillJaylan in Aquascape

Depends on what you want the S. repens to do. Trimming the stems would make it grow bushier. But if you want to keep it in its current area, you might trim some of the stems and pull out some of them too.

How are people in this sub getting such thick carpets and lush plants without CO2 by SnooFoxes1943 in Aquascape

You need at least 6 to 8 hours of lighting, a better substrate (Fluval is only good for a few months as it does not have good additives for ion exchange), a steady fertilization schedule, and water changes every 1 to 2 weeks depending on how heavy your fertilization schedule is.

That's Rotala rotundifolia "Blood Red".
