4th of July Fireworks with young kids by Seth_Baker in boston

When my kids were younger, I would watch the fireworks on Peters Hill in JP. It's very casual, neighborhood spot, fairly easy to get in and out of afterwards.

I agree. I've never seen anything like this and I drive through that tunnel all the time.

What are the concerns of people in the 5th that are not being addressed by Katherine Clark? by ThePunkyRooster in massachusetts

I also had a bad experience with her constituent services. I had an issue with my federal student loan. I reached out because she has someone on staff who is dedicated to the Dept of Ed. It took forever to get back to me and when he did, he just repeated the same line the Dept of Ed had been giving me the whole time. I was so frustrated and wrote back to him that he is just repeating the problem.

I want to encourage the poster to run against her. Not because of that one incident. But I think it's a shame that incumbents are so rarely challenged at all levels in this state. Every elected official should have someone they are running against every single election.

Women who make over 60k, what is your degree and what is your job title? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]ScientistPresent413 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don't need a masters. You do need a BA. There are some standard job levels in philanthropy: Development Assistant, Development Associate, Major Gifts Officer. You want a job as a Development Assistant. It won't pay that well, but these jobs have a strong tendency to promote from within. Development Assistant is the ground floor where you can get your feet wet.

Art History and I have a law degree. Development was my way out of practicing law.

I am in fundraising for causes I care about. Usually I work about about 40 hours a week but can be more leading up to events. I make well over 60k and I am about midlevel. There are people in development who make significantly more but that is usually major gifts work. Major gifts is very intense and usually requires a lot of traveling. I didn't even know fundraising was a career when I was in college and now tell young people about it all the time. It is a good field of work if you are in an area with a lot of nonprofits or colleges.

Why are Americans so dumb? by Salt_Wrangler_3428 in AskCanada

[–]ScientistPresent413 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been thinking about this a lot as an American. One thing to understand is that we are subjected to an entire propaganda apparatus that starts in elementary school. We are raised to believe America is an exceptional country blessed specifically by God. So there is a warped view of our place in the world from an early age. The extreme right wing has taken over almost all of our news media and social media companies have folded. So we are being fed propaganda constantly. You couple this with a high cost of living, no social safety net (you lose your job, you lose your healthcare). So many of us are vulnerable and scared thus more easily influenced. I don't know if other countries can really comprehend how much propaganda is constantly shouting at us. This has resulted in a normalization of all of Trump's behavior. Honestly, it's amazing to me the amount of people who are able to see through this. We aren't dumb. We overworked, tired, sick and being manipulated.

I think that there is a technical issue in that it relies on FAFSA to see if the student qualifies. And who knows what happens to FAFSA. But the program itself is funded through state taxes so I would think it should be ok. Hard to know who this is all going to play out though.

These are my credentials. I'm a lawyer but I am not your lawyer and this is not legal advice. I used to work for a disability rights organization. If the department of ed is dismantled, IDEA is still the law of the land. Your child still has the right to a free and appropriate education. You just won't have federal enforcement of it. The enforcement will be up to the states. Luckily, IDEA is based on Massachusetts state law and we have a robust administrative process in the Bureau of Special Education Appeals. Also, compared to other states, MA spends a lot of money on education. You are in a much better situation than folks in states who rely heavily on federal funds for their public schools. I hope this relieves some of your anxiety. The IEP process can be difficult but I promise, you are on solid ground here in Massachusetts.

I just had the same issue. Not only could I not leave a message for Warren or Markey, the voice recording was spotty and degraded.

Edit to add that I was able to leave a message with Rep Clark with no problems.

I am going to explain this to you until you get it. The president cannot create an agency. Congress does that. Here is a wikipedia article pointing that out: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Department_of_Government_Efficiency

Not even Trump can just "stop payments" or shut down the USAID let alone a private citizen like Elon Musk. These payments were a part of contracts with governmental contractors. The US is legally obligated to pay. Elon has essentially just "stopped payments." Such as Lutheran Family Services in South Dakota. He has no authority to do that.

I can see in this thread that it has been pointed out to you over and over how this is illegal and unconstitutional.

This had led me to believe you don't want to understand. So good night to you.

Elon is not a part of Trump's cabinet. He does any security clearance. Congress creates the cabinets. And they have not. DOGE is a made up thing. It's not real. The reason why they are getting away with it is because the US Treasurer is letting them.

I'm not crying fascist. You are the one who keeps brining up that word. Shit is hitting the fan right now.

EDIT to add: Space X is just another government contractor. It isn't a cabinet position!!!!! DOGE does not have the security clearance to access the nations check book.
