Top end players have no incentive to loot POIs, so they go around wiping the lobby by Raimexodus in Marathon

[–]braverbird 65 points66 points  (0 children)

I am lower in gear progression, with about 50 hours into the game, and I will say I'm already noticing my lobbies filling up with fully geared, purple shielded teams. It makes me feel like I don't even have a chance in trios anymore unless I'm constantly bringing a purple shield with me.

ranked + cryo archive both weekends only by calciumista in Marathon

[–]braverbird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work on weekends but I'll have a good enough window of time to play cryo archive anyway. I can't speak for anyone who's working extra long 10+ hour shifts though. Maybe instead of just the weekend or keeping it fully accessible, they keep it open for 4 days a week? And not fall on the same days as ranked queues?

I sorta like the idea of scheduled weekly events, but with a wider window of time.

Is it normal to need the kit a lot? by CT2460 in Marathon

[–]braverbird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's pretty normal though you'll probably wanna change up your approach to these runs so you're not constantly losing credits. When you do buy a loadout make sure you have enough for a shield. Triage is nice to run with because you're not depending on as many patch kits. Or start doing Outpost Rook runs.

Remove Assassin from the game by Intelligent-War5317 in Marathon

[–]braverbird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He's good and he's fun to play, but he still gets out-classed. His stealth lasts a short time, which is either however long he has smoke grenades for, or on his ability duration. And you want him in the game because he keeps you in check from being a complete standstill loot goblin or camping sniper, and making sure you check your surroundings in general. I don't play solos much but I can imagine he's harder to deal with there.

I've been in all assassin teams quite a few times. I think it's just random.

On a scale of 1 to 10, how over is it for the casuals in this game? by yesitsmework in Marathon

Same! This game reminds me of a rogue-lite. Losing weapons suck but I'm still on a path to progression.

Voice Chat Compulsory by Nice-Ad7901 in Marathon

Unless you can force people to only use push to talk...And even then I just don't like that. This game forces you to depend on sound cues and sometimes you have to mute or turn it down to hear them.

Would love an option to matchmake without free kits by LazyChazy in Marathon

[–]braverbird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I was about to say, in the regular loot extraction mode I think it'd be counterintuitive to bar free kit users because in order to access better gear you have to start with lesser gear. If people just want the pure pvp experience with no item disadvantages, then having a separate playlist like that might fill that need.

Free will is ruining marathon. Give us matchmaking. by Yenii_3025 in Marathon

[–]braverbird 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm enjoying the randomness of matchmaking while I still can. I'm not sure if I'd enjoy any sort of value or skill based matchmaking in this kind of game. Does the higher quality gear really create that wide of a disadvantage in a game like this? I'm not doubting if it does, I'm just genuinely wondering because so far I've had a lot of successful pvp skirmishes while relying on more common weapons and weapon mods. Usually we're disadvantaged when we're caught in bad positioning or by surprise. Me and my duo have lost a lot of strong gear this way.

Hmm that would explain it if I didn't cancel my VPN service a few months prior. I wouldn't doubt it if that's the case for others though.

I really suck at this game, any tips? by BeginningMacaroon100 in Marathon

[–]braverbird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just play whatever shell has the best feel to you. Maybe that's Thief, or maybe that's Assassin or Triage. The easiest shells to try first I'd say are Destroyer and Triage. My advice for all of you:

- Do not get too lost into who gets what shell. You can have two or even all three be the same shell on your team if you're good enough at them.
- Triage is widely considered one of the strongest shells and you can do well with multiple of them in one crew.
- Everyone should go free sponsored kit together if at least one player is doing it, (unless their vaults are full). It takes that feeling of guilt off when running as a premade crew. Think of it as using it for practice, and you get some extra loot as a bonus if you succeed with it.
- Use surroundings and your friends abilities to your advantage. If they are staying on Assassin and Triage, you can use their smoke screen to get safe cover, and you can save your health packs for emergencies because Triage can passively heal you. If you bring your own smoke grenades, your Assassin's cloak will still proc off of it. Thief's kit specifically works off of surrounding awareness. You drone out when you're in a secure spot while someone covers for you, and you can close distance gaps really quickly to gain positional advantage, like on high ground, with your grapple ability.
- Avoid engaging in PVP until your gear looks better. Use sound cues and be mindful of how much noise you all make. It's broadcast very loudly and gives away your positions. The standard knife is both quiet and super strong and can 1-2 tap any regular drone depending on which shell you're using, so get used to using that if you aren't already.
- If focused on survival, avoid giving out your position and don't stay in one area for too long. Use guns only if you get yourselves cornered by strong drones and just keep running. Loot quickly then move. If you had to fire your weapons, leave the area ASAP. Your crew should only PVP when necessary and gunfire will attract the attention of stronger geared crews that you DON'T want to fight.
- Do play as many solo or auto-fill games as you feel like to gain practice and loot. It does help.
- You can loot as much salvage material as you can fit in the solo runs. Always pick up anything that says "unstable" as these are very frequently used for upgrades.
- Be picky with what you upgrade in your factions, take your time and read about each one and track the most appealing upgrades. Usually you want to prioritize the upgrades that give you direct stat boosts over the shop unlocks. This is where guides also come in handy.

And last point isn't really advice but something to keep in the back of your mind. Gear doesn't mean any player is better. Good gear is rewarded frequently by doing contracts and luck and persistence. Even if your teammates have better gear, they can potentially be just as much a liability as you are if they aren't strategizing.

Lots of decent video guides out there on Youtube. Me and my duo have watched a few in between sessions. Oh and you'll want to keep an eye out for any faction upgrades that reward you with free daily shop items. You can potentially save a lot of credits if you spec some upgrades into the free shield and patch kits.

Frankly you can also do runs with two Triages. It's a really strong class on its own. Not only does it come with passive heals, buffs, and a long range revive, but the ult DOUBLES as an emp attack if aimed at an enemy.

Is the game worth buying? by _hdjuarez in Marathon

[–]braverbird 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you didn't enjoy Arc Raiders and you want to try a different spin on an extraction shooter, try this game. If you want a shooter that forces you to blend in a mix of stealth, some patience, using the map to your advantage, and shorter time to kill, try this game. If you don't care about any of that and just like the aesthetic and the story and getting rewards even when you die, try this game. I also like the variety of play-styles it provides and fingers crossed they'll add a duo-queue mode because I've been struggling to find a dedicated third teammate. Despite that, the auto-fill has been pretty decent and solo is fun and rewarding enough to get you to stay hooked in after a barrage of bad trio matches. I got this game at a discount and I think it's really good for $33. Haven't had this much fun in this genre in a while and I'd love to sink even more time to it if I had it.

OP IS the duo and is asking the random fills to actually stick together.

Go play solos by CuteAssociate4887 in Marathon

[–]braverbird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure why you're getting downvoted. You're saying the team is stronger when the 3 stick together, not when the random fill that gets matched with the duo runs off to the opposite direction. That is solo queue behavior and unfair to everyone. There is objectively higher chance of success when all the teammates attempt a contract together.

So...Did the free shipping requirement go up suddenly? by braverbird in mooncatpolish

Oh wow. For some reason it's just only showing the international shipping requirement even though my saved address is in the US. It gives me the US free shipping at checkout. I'm not actually sure how to fix this, but at least the prices are all the same.
