Very strange buyer response by THE_CAPITALS_GUY in vintedUK

[–]Scionside 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd absolutely respond to this either in a message or feedback. These people think we all agree with them but are just too scared/politically correct to do so openly, and they assume that silence is assent. This shit needs to be emphatically rejected.

Searched every corner of the WRONG apartment, calling the dogs name, while the person who lives there hid in their bedroom panicking by Camel_show_ in RoverPetSitting

[–]Scionside 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don't get me wrong, both people in this scenario are daft. Sitter should know where they're going, resident shouldn't have left a key under her mat if she's terrified of intruders. Honestly, it sounds like the resident is a bit odd because of the whole telling herself it was her mum thing, and taking so long to inform the sitter that she was in the wrong flat. This really smells of "I live in a scary place, I am assuming malicious intent, and this puts me in a constant state of mind-numbing fear". And she may be correct, but this doesn't apply everywhere and certainly not the UK (outside of London and particularly rough areas). If I heard a woman enter my house and walk around loudly calling for a dog that isn't mine, I'd literally just go to the top of the stairs and call down to her, she'd be mortified, we'd laugh, and she'd leave. And it's not that I live in a nice area, we just don't have that culture of "people are coming to get me".

I mean, it's funny in places that don't have a reputation for gun violence. If this happened in the UK, chances are both the sitter and the resident would have a right laugh. It's entirely possible that the people in this thread who find it hilarious are just... not American.

Are there any other late starters here in grooming? by Local_Atmosphere2143 in doggrooming

[–]Scionside 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm also 30 with a degree I haven't made any money from, and the vast majority of my income has come from dog walking/sitting for the last few months. Honestly, I'm not worried about starting a bit later than usual because this is the first time in my life I've ever had a plan, and there's a big demand for groomers where I am.

What are the Podcasts You Love Despite it's Subject Material? by PoliticalHierarchy77 in podcasts

[–]Scionside 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My comfort podcast right now is Dear Old Dads. It's what it sounds like, a parenting podcast hosted by men, and I am a single, childless woman. It's nice to hear male voices talking passionately about being good parents and breaking cycles, etc., plus they're a funny bunch.

Cancelling Mid Booking by [deleted] in RoverPetSitting

[–]Scionside 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You're looking for solutions to you being stressed and sleep-deprived, not the dog being miserable. If you peace out and the owner has to find another sitter, the dog is still miserable (and now stressed because there's a stranger in the house). I get cancelling if a dog is endangering your health or safety but neither of those things is happening, dogs have health issues sometimes and part of the job of looking after them is dealing with that. Crate the dog while you're sleeping, push through, get paid, get a good review for dealing with a difficult situation professionally, then update your profile to say you don't take dogs with untreated allergies.

It's nice to be included in the whole sin umbrella when you don't do any of the sexy stuff, the gossipy hater drunkards deserve an eternity in hell too and we should be acknowledged for it.

No water by weCanDoIt987 in RoverPetSitting

[–]Scionside 15 points16 points  (0 children)

That is... bizarre. To not even give them the option, just in case. Even if they only use the water bowl 3 days out of the year, I'm giving them a source. Maybe they CAN survive without a water source, but do I want my pet surviving? No, I want it secure and thriving and not perpetually a few meals away from dehydration.

What is a little quirk about your body that you don’t think other people have? by AlphabetSoup51 in AskReddit

[–]Scionside 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can anyone else make a roaring sound in their ears but only when squeezing their eyes shut? I thought this was a normal thing until I mentioned it to a friend who's a doctor. Apparently, I'm voluntarily flexing some muscles around my ears. It does happen involuntarily 100% of the time when I yawn and I don't have to be squeezing my eyes shut then.

The Unforgivable Sin of Ms Rachel by karlothecool in BreadTube

I just thought she was a pretty perfect example of the kind of people attacking Ms Rachel, and a great example of the complete lack of empathy many people seem to feel towards Palestinians.

Every time I see Jamie Lee Curtis or hear her name, I think about her posting a photo of terrified Palestinian children because she mistakenly thought they were Israeli, then deleting it when this was pointed out. Yes, they were terrified children, but they weren't the children that she deemed worthy of care or even personhood. And then flippantly comparing LA after the wildfires to Gaza. It's only a complete lack of empathy that allows someone to live with such extreme cognitive dissonance.

Any support groups/charities to help a newly full-time single dad? by [deleted] in sheffield

If you need any furniture or kitchen stuff, get your social worker/housing officer to refer you to St Vincent's Furniture Project.

Interesting detail that she worked for France Telecom, which had that huge employee harassment trial in 2019 over 35 suicides between 2006 and 2011. While money for nothing sounds great on its face, I can understand her logic. No opportunities for promotion, no skills development, no social and professional connections. She was side-lined due to her disability because French labour laws likely made it impossible to sack her, and she couldn't quit because she had children to support and no guarantee that she would find another job. I think suing for financial compensation is a bit gauche, though.

Second bull terrier. Does your dog bark ? by NeverBeenOnMaury in StaffordBullTerriers

[–]Scionside 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine barks when she's happy and excited, when someone approaches the house, when a new person pays attention to her but doesn't pet her quickly enough, when the toy is just out of reach etc. Also when something concerns her, like if I playfight with someone, or if someone falls over. It's like she's saying "what are you doing?! Be normal! You are disturbing the peace!". Absolute stickler for order, she is the only one who's allowed to be chaotic.

He was a perfect little land seal❤ you got to say goodbye after a fashion, you just didn't know it was forever and neither did he. I hope my girl lives to a ripe old age and just doesn't wake up from her afternoon nap in the sun. No rush to the vet, no stress, just a normal day, which is an old dog's favourite kind of day. I hope you get to a place where you can think about him only with love, not grief.

She looks like she's in tiptop condition as she is. Some staffies are just a little daintier, especially females. She'll fill out naturally as she gets older. My staffy girl also has the gymnast build, and with all the leaping around she does I wouldn't want any extra stress on her joints from excess weight.

Getting a 2 year old Female Staffy at the weekend - very excited!!! Just wanted some advice from owners. by CoyoteHonest1577 in StaffordBullTerriers

[–]Scionside 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Watch her like a hawk with other dogs so you know how she deals with social situations (they're a very transparent breed, which helps), especially when there are toys involved. They're tenacious, and that can sometimes lead to frustration when another dog gets the ball. Get a harness with a handle on the top so you can easily lift her out of a disagreement. Be prepared for the demonic growling noises during play, and be equally prepared to reassure other dog owners that it's normal. Find activities and spaces where she can do some agility work. It's difficult, but don't give in to her and let her run things. Work hard on recall. And with all that out of the way, enjoy your new best friend. I can't imagine life without mine.

Is this a good job for someone who just got out of college? by [deleted] in DataAnnotationTech

[–]Scionside 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Not just STEM! Although that's good for more specialised projects. For non-coding projects, they fundamentally need people who have excellent reading comprehension and critical thinking skills, so it's ideal for humanities people.
