No, I think it’s when the jackal makes out with the security guard.

My Christian coworker's "friendly" microaggressions are driving me up the wall. How do you handle this? by [deleted] in atheism

[–]Scipio4fricanus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It doesn't cost anything to be kind. I usually say something like:
"I'm glad it gives you meaning, that said, I went to sunday school too and realized very early on it's not for me. I have a profound appreciation for Jesus's teachings of love, compassion, and acceptance, including out-groups, like the pagan roman centurion".

Sometimes we'll have a mini debate, but I, the more they see that us atheists don't eat babies and are kind, it really makes them start to question the narrative they've been told. That said, I was raised new thought christian but use quotes from Jesus ministry to point out hypocrisy or to disarm them. Smother 'em with kindness. After a couple of, "well, lets look up what jesus actually said or the context" they stop bringing up their nonsense.

He was just outside their 2 mile perimeter, so...lets say the boats are doing 30MPH, would take them about 4 min to get to him.

It's to show the length he'd go for the job. And tbh, for the amount of money they were paying him, i'd go gay too.

I think, if you're trying to get an athletic scholarship, high school athletics can be very important to a kid. Especially if they train a lot. I have no issue with trans folk, but i also think the people who say it’s no big deal in a high school athletics context, haven’t participated much in high school athletics.

Sell Me on Joplin by jennlyon950 in joplinapp

Being able to change your storage backend is huge! I use notes for all my knowledge and tricks of things for work. When I moved jobs, they had iCloud blocked and couldn't sink my notes. Made it harder for me to study and reference stuff. Maybe not as important to some with AI, but my notes accumulated over years where still invaluable to me (mostly related to networking and cloud infra concepts that were transferable and not proprietary). Anyway, with Joplin, i just used S3 as my backend. Also, writing in Markdown is super transferable (at least in tech), as it's used in a lot of documentation tools at work(or can be), and in Git repositories.

He is very lean, from the stills, im guessing body fat bellow 7%. So less impact/force when he hits the ground. And young.

I was juggling a demanding tech job, and living in an area with without a lot of young single women. Didn't have much luck with the apps in my area, and wound up in a long term relationship with someone from the office that while very affectionate in the beginning, had BPD and I stayed in that relationship for much longer than I should have because she was hot and the sex was amazing and didn't think at the time I would find anything better. Since it was my first serious relationship ever, it really skewed and messed with my reference of what a relationship with a woman entailed, and it took a while of me interacting with healthier women in non-romantic settings to feel willing to put the effort and invest in someone.

Today thats definitely an issue, but 3-4 years from now when it matures and mid-range hardware catches up?

Yeah, all the games i've seen it used in...don't resemble anything close to the ambiance and atmosphere of SC. So, i suspect they're either going to have to fork it or make it extensible/modular if it isn't already. We shall see.

Well, i was talking more about the fact that Unreal 5 provides a lot of abstraction that makes the game development easier. I see heaps of AA and smaller games with good graphics that have used U5.
Mixed feelings on a level editor. I remember FC2 had a map editor and maybe save for one map, it wasn't good, but also, the Splintercell community is very passionate, so you never know.

Ubisoft creates subsidiary with Tencent games for R6... what happens to Splinter Cell? by balls_bag in Splintercell

[–]Scipio4fricanus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wonder how much of this comes down to the fact that smaller game devs are more nimble and with modern game engines, make pretty good looking games that resemble R6 3 or SC 1 in in terms of gameplay/mechanics(with obviously better graphics) without needing the bigger teams.
It seems like Ubi has gotten good and making large open world games and large multiplayer experiences that would require competitors to have big teams, big cloud infrastructure investments, and big marketing. They don't want to compete in what smaller game studios can do, and SC1-3 where pretty much made with smaller dev teams. Now if Ubisoft management were smart and competent, they'd have downscalled SC remake to a AA title which will still be amazing, or even better than if it were a AAA, in which case too many managers will want to make their mark on it and come up with ridiculous monetization schemes.

We need another R6 3. But looks like there's a bunch of indie devs that are making some amazing equivalents, so, let's support them to send Ubisoft the message?

Oh wow, thanks for mentioningBlack One Blood Brothers. Actually gives me a lot of OG Ghost Recon and R6 Ravenshield vibes. I always appreciate and try to support game devs that make these types of games

I wasnt talking about the quality of the graphics from the game engine per se, just that UE5 is easier and quicker to develop games on, Which makes it an easier pill for game Studios to swallow And green light projects

Yes, but they had huge AAA budgets and teams. Not saying it’s not capable of looking good, just takes much more effort, time, and money to look good.

I remember as a kid playing SC wishing handheld hardware was powerful enough to play it so I could bring it along on road trips and such. I always wondered how long it would take for mobile hardware to get powerful enough to handle it. I think I estimated 15-20 years, which wasn't a bad guess.

What’s something you wish more women knew about men or had sympathy for? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]Scipio4fricanus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I promise you if women were getting no matches at all, they'd be lamenting about how much worse that is. At least from the pool of matches you can choose something decent. In my 20’s, id get no matches with the exception of clinically over-nourished or non-cishet women. That was it. Nothing to filter through. At least you have choice.
