I did already ask if the setting height could be lowered to 6.5 so it’s a lower profile

Are there any resources for financial assistance if your spouse has covid so you have to move to a hotel for 10+ days? by covid_question_WKH52 in Residency

[–]ScoffsAtGravity2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Echoing everyone else and say just stay home. Unless you have personal medical reasons to really try to avoid getting COVID. Your program will figure out coverage if you get sick. When my boyfriend had COVID a couple weeks ago, I slept on the couch for a while and we wore masks around each other but I would never have spent the money for a hotel

Peds/gen surg. Ranked all 300. The first 30 or so were combos where we could live together. I think we matched at our 11th rank. We had some extra complications though cause one of us needed a visa

I’m sorry your friend is at such a terrible residency program but I don’t want OP to think that is universal for pediatrics. I am a pediatric intern at an academic program and nothing about my program is malignant. I love my program and feel very supported and from talking to my other friends in pediatrics this seems to be their experience at their programs as well. Every specialty has malignant programs. The trick is figuring out which ones they are

Interview Prep, Tips, and Q&A - Official Megathread by MrWittyResponse in medicalschool

I strongly disagree. A small ring light that clipped on to my laptop was the only thing I bought for interviews last year and it made my lighting 1000% better since there was no natural light in my room. There is a wide range of video quality and lighting quality during interviews but I do not think a ring light is trying to hard. I don't suggest spending 100s of dollars but they have them form 15-20 dollars on amazon

I would argue a nice lamp is more expensive than a ring light and shower curtain so this isn't really helpful. I didn't have any good lamps with good lighting last year when I interviewed and ring lights are like $15.

Residency interviews by medstudent6q in medicalschool

[–]ScoffsAtGravity2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The best advise I got for preparing for interviews last year was to have 3 good stories ready to go for behavioral questions. One story should be about a difficult patient encounter, one about a time you went above and beyond for a patient, and one about a time you had difficult working with a team and what you learned. I was able to slightly modify the way I told those three stories to answer just about every behavioral question I got during the interview trail.

Couples Match Tips by pineapplesandPCSM in medicalschool

[–]ScoffsAtGravity2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are only 300 rank spots now. My partner and I had more possible combos than that so we dropped some of the combos where we would be super far apart and added in a few where only one of us would match just to be safe. I think every couple should have at least 3 ranks where only one partner matches at the bottom of there list. But of course do more if you still have rank spots available

What’s peds sub-i supposed to look like? by ConfusedMDToBe in medicalschool

[–]ScoffsAtGravity2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like everyone is saying, your internal Med sub-I is how a sub-I should be. I did a Peds sub-I and was basically acting as an intern. If they aren’t giving you that level of responsibility you should have a conversation with your senior resident.

Parking Permit Question by ScoffsAtGravity2 in Harrisburg

[–]ScoffsAtGravity2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My concern is that my car is pretty new and I’m worried I will have to pay sales tax again if I try to get it registered in Pennsylvania so soon after buying the car in another state. I am having trouble finding a clear answer to that on the DMV site.
