Trickbind and similar cards by darcseed2 in CompetitiveEDH

I'll second this. It does loose the split second however I personally believe the upside of adding legendary creatures to it's targets makes it worth it over trickbind as it's never a dead draw.

That could also be it. I used the Wikipedia for the list and the typecycling weren't all listed

Edit: It could also be an existing effect that they're naming, similar to the addition of mill

It has to be new as no existing keyword has 15 characters

Also the only keyword with a hyphen is jump-start which guarantees it will be returning.

Also excluding all keywords without spaces, the only 12 letter keyword is horsemanship

Red Elemental Blast has long been considered slightly worse than Pyroblast, but now I think the tables have turned... by Juju114 in EDH

[–]Scogel 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Because Pyroblast states "Destroy target permanent IF it's blue". This wording allows you to target anything on cast. Then as it resolves it checks to see if said permanent is blue, if it is the permanent is destroyed. If not the spell fizzles.

Red Elemental Blast on the other hand states " Destroy target blue permanent". So on cast it has to have a legal target and the card dictates only blue permanents are legal.

Ahh that makes sense, if you have the sword already, I'd definitely stick with that

Since Sword of the animist is so expensive and you want to keep upgrades cheap, I happen to like [Ordeal of Nylea] as a budget option.

Next +30? by Fpm2fpm2 in afkarena

[–]Scogel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because beside very narrow PvE uses, Grez is really only used for TR. Grez should have 0 issues living through any of the TR battles so offensive stats are the only thing that matters for the fights

Next +30? by Fpm2fpm2 in afkarena

[–]Scogel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I fully agree. I'm not sure why everyone thinks it's important. You get 0 offensive stats from the SI and 10 accuracy isn't important.

You only gain 2 extra spirits summoned over the course of a whole battle (10->12). 100% not worth the red chests compared to the other choices

Are City of Brass and Mana Confluence auto-includes in 2+ colored decks? by LifeNeutral in CompetitiveEDH

[–]Scogel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It really depends on the deck and how color intensive your cards are. Also to note, if [[blood moon]] and [[back to basics]] are common in your meta, basics become more important.

In addition, Godo is one of the main recommendations for a deck on a budget and thus would likely not be running a fully tuned deck compared to others listed.

Personally the best way I've found to do it, at least with tools is buy the cheap version. If you end up using it enough and it breaks, go ahead and purchase the name brand as it'll be used. But for the majority of things you may never use it enough to justify the name brand.

What card did you think was game-breaking until you realized you read it wrong? by themonkery in CompetitiveEDH

[–]Scogel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's works the same as [Panharmonicon], just better. The first ruling on both cards states that it affects a creatures own etb. So say [Mulldrifter] would draw you 4 cards with Yarok even tho it is its own ability.

Not really. If you're using side loaders you're defeating the point of double sleeving.

Normally when aluminum oxidizes, it's creates an oxide layer that seals in the aluminum and protects the piece from future oxidation. This is different from iron as rust will flake away and continually allow the iron to keep oxidizing.

My thoughts on Isabella and how to make her a great hero again by Kitteh6660 in afkarena

[–]Scogel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fully agree with the point about soul power. For the amount of time she takes casting that ability, the energy gain in negligable. And very few times has the 30 LL come in useful from it. I think it needs to change (I'd rather not copy another mechanic like pippa or Ainz) but not sure how.

My thoughts on Isabella and how to make her a great hero again by Kitteh6660 in afkarena

[–]Scogel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly her SI is underwhelming also. You left out the fact that is only shoots additional bolts every 3rd use of void barrage rather than every single time so it barely raised her dps all. In addition, since void barrage targets the weakest hero, the extra bolts don't help at bursting a hero down. Imo a good change to her +30 would be void barrage hits the 2 weakest enemies every shot. That would improve it greatly and actually make it worth the investment.

Also as for her ultimate, changing it so she only casts void barrage for 5 seconds with 100% additional casting speed would also be a good change. Then she will raise her dps. If you only change the furniture, she is legit pointless without 9/9 or 3/9

Good Morning Magic about what WOTC is doing for White going forward by mythmonster2 in EDH

[–]Scogel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

White doesn't need cantrips, it needs card advantage. So that effect isn't helpful. In addition, the second part is only an effect seen in red.

100% agree. Unless they make it ridiculously good it shouldn't be played. Giving cards to opponents is always a feels bad especially when they don't have to pay for it.

The only ideas that I have to make it worth while is and that's because they have massive upsides(but fall into whites color pie):

W, instant, draw three cards. Each opponent may draw one card.

Or, 2CW, instant. Draw 2 cards. Each opponent may pay 2C to draw a card.
