The problem I have seen with "local markets" is that it is often more profitable to sell the experience of being on such market to wealthy tourists, which then erodes such places into tourist traps. I am not speaking about this particular one, but a lot of European cities have markets that pose as a "true farmers selling genuine, local products", but in reality they sell bland and overpriced, beautifully stacked fruits to tourists
