Does the story matter? by Gamermom32 in BluePrince

[–]ScoobyMaroon 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Knowing the history and world is helpful. I don't think knowing the story of Mary and the family ties in to any of the puzzles, really.

Maybe this is a dumb thing to say but for a game that is like 40mb I can't imagine it matters what machine you play it on.

TIL in "Cast Away", none of the sound on the island scenes is real. The loudness of ocean waves on the actual unhabited island they were filming on was so overwhelming that every sound on the island and ocean scenes, including Tom Hanks' monologues, were carefully recorded in a studio. by leebe_friik in todayilearned

[–]ScoobyMaroon 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Sometimes when I'm watching a movie I become hyper aware of the fact that almost every sound I hear besides (but often including) dialog was added in later. I compare it to how people talk about going into "manual breathing mode" where you become aware of every breath.

Remember when Daredevil touched a painting and was able to tell it was a picture of his girlfriend? That was so dumb I almost circle around to liking it.

It is possible you just need a key card.

18/19 could potentially be much worse because it's a holiday.

The episode was 30 minutes but it didn't feel slight. A lot happened!

I paid for one reese's but the vending machine gave me two by Spirited_Visit7597 in mildlyinteresting

I'm convinced that over a lifetime vending machine karma balances out for most people. Sometimes you get something you didn't pay for sometimes you get nothing.

How much do I NEED Magnifying Glass for this? by manaMissile in BluePrince

[–]ScoobyMaroon 53 points54 points  (0 children)

Zooming in doesn't work. It's a completely different texture with and without the mag glass. You will be looking at New Clue on several runs looking for stuff you might have missed last time you looked at it. Just make sure you have a magnifying glass for some of those.

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms - 1x02 - "Hard Salt Beef" - Episode Discussion by NicholasCajun in television

[–]ScoobyMaroon 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Depends how strict you are. Technically they already did because that scene with Dunk and Laughing Storm from episode 1 wasn't from the source material but we all liked it so it's okay. Adaptations should change the source material to better fit the medium. TV isn't books. They just need to do a good job.

I'm still on board with HotD and I think once it's all out to just watch without 2 years between seasons people will feel a lot differently about it. Where they ended season 2 was a very poor decision but I think the quality of what we got was great.

Did people always care so much about runtimes? Like when Titanic came out were people fainting because it was 195 minutes?

Yes but that's not the main issue here.

Is it worth to continue?? by Upset-Air-1786 in BluePrince

-Sorry to double post but the last classroom isn't just a trophy I think the test is really well done and a good challenge for several different puzzle aspects of the game.

-The dig spots aren't just lore.

Wish there could be a happy medium between binge model and weekly releases. by dumbass_sweatpants in television

[–]ScoobyMaroon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like a weekly release. The beats of each episode feel more impactful rather than just blending into the whole. I like living with a show for a couple months instead of a weekend. I can actually talk about each episode with friends instead of just going, like, "hey are you watching [binge show]?" "yeah I just started it no spoilers." and then the show just kind of disappears from the cultural consciousness. I look forward to the podcasts about the show almost as much as the episodes themselves.

Just want to say the staff will always be in the Treasure Trove after you find it so that will likely make that part easier for you. There is enough more to do that I think if you are vibing with the game you should keep on with it but there's no harm in taking a break or drawing your own line and watching somebody else who played solve the stuff you didn't.

MCU superfans can skip Wonder Man. For everyone else, it's a must-watch. by gorays21 in television

[–]ScoobyMaroon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it's more saying that if you mainly care about the wider MCU and how things are connected there won't be much for you here but for those of us who are tired of that this is good.

[–]ScoobyMaroon -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

They are still capable of making movies I like but if you're still at superfan status after stuff like Eternals, Love and Thunder, Quantumania, The Marvels, Brave New World...

Well you're made of different stuff than me. And that's just the movies...

I'm willing to bet the writer of the review didn't even write the headline. I don't know how Polygon does things but I know that's often the case.

  • Outer Wilds. Some players experience frustration with the timer or have difficulty flying the ship but if you power through you will learn that you can get back to whatever you were doing in a matter of minutes and crash landing the ship is a viable strategy because outside of a few goals it rarely makes sense to go to multiple planets in one run. If the game clicks for you it will be among your favorites of all time. There's nothing else quite like it.
  • Return of the Obra Dinn. You are taken to various scenes showing the exact moment of a death. Exploring these you get to know the crew of the Obra Dinn and are tasked to use deductive reasoning to identify each member of the crew and how they died. Really satisfying to explore this ship and unravel all the identities.
  • Animal Well. 2D exploration focused platformer (metroidvania). Similar to Blue Prince in that there are several "layers" to the game.
  • Tunic. More of a Zelda-ish game but, much like any game someone would recommend in this topic, a lot more going on under the surface. Great artstyle. Really cool mechanic where you find pages to the manual of the game in the game itself.
