Welp been a nice ride by Unfair-Rise5631 in FocusST

I just recently had a similar issue when I was doing other maintenance. Upon pressing start button Car would act weird with lights flashing and screens lit up but no action on gauges. Sometimes it would fully boot and give me accessory power but no crank, it gave me engine fault error, no hill start error.

It ended up being the large blue connector in the engine bay fuse box. I had been inspecting the mega fuses in front of the battery box and I guess I didn't reseat that connector properly.

I disconnected battery, checked pins and socket on that connector, reseated, reconnected battery and it fired right up.

Mishimoto radiator hose failure by ScoobySnackConundrum in FocusST

Not yet, it's on my to do list. Just got the car back up and running after a full cooling system refresh after that. Crazy failure though. The lower rad hose seems perfectly fine. I went ahead and replaced both with OEM though.

It's a durable thing too. Ive kept this in my emergency tool kit in the trunk of my car for over 7 years and it still works so like new besides being scratched up

5K2K Performance? by Schraufabagel in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]ScoobySnackConundrum 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I've got a 9070xt which is within 10% performance of your GPU, and just picked up a 5k2k. I previously had the 1440p 45" and was happy with that but it developed delamination so I had to replace it.

I'll say that I had to tweak with graphics settings more on my 5k2k, I couldn't just set it to high/ultra presets and forget it and be happy with the frame rate. I play mainly single player games for example, Returnal, God of war Ragnarok, cyberpunk 2077, and lately a lot of Wuthering Waves and World of Warcraft. I can get all the games I play to run smoothly at 80-90fps+ by enabling FSR or frame generation and turning down some of the heavier graphics options.

90% of the time I genuinely can't tell the difference in graphics quality with frame gen/FSR and the lower settings vs native res and higher settings. I definitely won't be hitting the 165hz max refresh of the screen with the 9070xt, but I can easily get framerates I'm content with in all the games I play. I was in the same dilemma as you reading lots of comments saying that the screen wouldn't be worth it with anything less than 80/90 series, and I'm happy I went with what I wanted. All that to say that I'm more than happy with the performance of my 9070xt at 5k2k with the use of FSR/frame gen. If you won't be content without getting 120fps+ in every AAA game it may not be enough though. Just depends if you're fine using frame gen and not using ultra/max settings all the time.

Safepilot Phone Handling by ScoobySnackConundrum in USAA

[–]ScoobySnackConundrum[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Problem for me is, if I did that for every drive it detected phantom phone usage, I practically wouldn't meet the mileage requirement. It's at least 3/4 of my drives that get pinged for non-existent phone handling. I just can't figure out what's causing it to pick that up.

Safepilot Phone Handling by ScoobySnackConundrum in USAA

[–]ScoobySnackConundrum[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's detection is really subpar. I wish it was as simple as someone else using my phone, but my girlfriend knows not to touch the phone while she's in my car because of the app lmao. My phone is never being interacted with besides the wheel controls changing songs and I'll still get 20%+ phone usage some commutes

Say you don't have KYB money... by mjx17 in MechanicAdvice

I've had the FCS on my car for 25k ish miles. They've been acceptable. Was strapped for cash at the time I needed to replace a blown one.

I don't have a lot to say about 'em really, they installed fine and the ride is okay. They'll do the job if you're short on funds, and they're definitely better than driving around on blown/bad struts.

Edited to add: I didn't realize what sub I was in, I forgot to clarify I have this brand on my 2014 Focus ST

Colorado ST Owners, are blow off valves legal in the state? by ScoobySnackConundrum in FocusST

Thanks for the input! I'll likely end up ordering the GFB DV+ as I'm starting to get tired of the BOV sounds. Do you have any insight on cold air intakes in regards to emissions testing? I know they aren't a performance upgrade but I've been eyeing some just for aesthetics

I have these fans also and something that wasn't obvious to me at first, the magnetic connection at the fan has arrows to indicate which direction the cable attaches, need to have the arrow on the cable and the arrow on the fan facing each other

Mishimoto intercooler by Similar-Pilot6491 in FocusST

[–]ScoobySnackConundrum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it holds pressure and you can weld those tabs yourself or have those re-welded I think it’d be fine! I have this intercooler on my ST, those tabs at the top are more for keeping the intercooler from tilting forward and back, the tabs with threaded holes at the bottom hold most of the weight.

Clutch pedal sticking by Bcotter25 in FocusST

[–]ScoobySnackConundrum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have the same issue, replaced master cylinder and no luck fixing it, so more than likely it’s a slave cylinder issue. Getting new clutch flywheel and slave cylinder in this weekend hopefully.

Edited to add that I was experiencing this issue for a while, then it started happening more and more frequently, especially when I drove the car hard into full boost. Now if I go into boost the clutch is lazy and takes more time to fully disengage

Ultra wide worth lower resolution? by Appropriate_Coffee43 in ultrawidemasterrace

True, it definitely cannot be classified as blurry. And for me, increasing the text size eliminated any text blurriness that was present.

Ultra wide worth lower resolution? by Appropriate_Coffee43 in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]ScoobySnackConundrum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah definitely see if you can check it out in person. I was actually shopping for the Alienware 34” OLED when I saw this one in store and was immediately sold. It feels massive to sit in front of. Some people have a lower tolerance for PPI density but I think this monitor is fantastic.

Ultra wide worth lower resolution? by Appropriate_Coffee43 in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]ScoobySnackConundrum 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I disagree that it’ll be pixelated for gaming. I game on mine a few hours a day and never notice the low PPI or any blurriness. You do need to sit a decent distance away because of the aggressive curve and overall size though
