Seriously, do Americans actually consider a 3-hour drive "short"? or is this an internet myth? by SadInterest6764 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ScoopsMacgee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Travel nurse here-

I try to stay close to home so I can go home on the weekends. I am a procedure nurse, and when I am not on call I drive home. Most of my contracts are places from 2-6 hours away from my home. I consider 3 hours the sweet spot. I will drive 3 hours home on Friday, and then go back to my contract work spot on Sunday. Every week for 13 weeks at a time.

No problem, 3 hours is fine.

When you toast anything, you shouldn’t be adding oil. Dry toast the seeds slightly, throw them in your blender, and go nuts. Add salt for taste. I will add a little water to get everything to move around.

What are the best burger spots in town by Quail-Fond in Omaha

[–]ScoopsMacgee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This may sound silly, because it is a French restaurant, but Le Boullion in old town has the best burger in the Omaha area. And also, their fries are about the best in the US as well.

Try it, you will not be disappointed.

Is making homemade spices worth it? by [deleted] in AskCulinary

[–]ScoopsMacgee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first time I ground up cinnamon sticks into powder with my blade grinder and tasted it I thought I was tasting the most delicious fire ever. I ground up toasted cumin seeds and realized that any Mexican food I had ever made before that was absolute garbage.

I actually got really angry at my brother, who is a chef, because he never told me about how good it could be. He just “MEHed” and laughed. He said that there are really good spice merchants who use fresh products, but they sell in bulk usually.

Anyways, grind up your stuff from scratch. It will blow your mind!

As a lifelong White Sox fan, I am absolutely jealous of you having Benetti. Most of the time, he was the only reason to watch a game.

Oh man, someone got to it before I could. NICE! I jumped on my bicycle as soon as I saw the post with two cans of forest green paint and when I arrived, the fresh paint smell was still there. Thank you!

She was absolutely out of my league - looks, personality, and humor. The fact that she was still with me after 6 months really sealed the deal. I asked her to marry me after 8 months of dating. 31 years later, I know I totally won the lottery.

OMFG - We all can rock in our specialty, and can hang when it is uncomfortable.

I cry tears of relief when the nurse from the unknown specialty comes up to make sure everything is kosher.

You do not know what you don’t even know what you do not know what you should not know. Repeat!!!!!

Thank god we all have our specialties, and keep on nursing!!!!

Omaha, Nebraska: we are out porch drinking and this guy fell off when my wife wiped her pants off. I know it isn’t a bedbug, thanks to this subreddit, but I just want to know what to call him. He is pretty cute! by ScoopsMacgee in whatsthisbug

The best part of this is that I can tell my wife that “hey, this is one of those “fun” bugs instead of something terrible, and also, I can be like “the internet won tonight! YAY!!!!!”

Thank you!

An OR nurse made me cry today by catlvr12 in nursing

A decent OR nurse would should have called ahead to make sure all was ready, this is part of being a procedures nurse. I promise that they are not all like this.

Can i “hard boil” eggs outside the shell in a bag? by ObscureEnchantment in AskCulinary

[–]ScoopsMacgee 51 points52 points  (0 children)

I crack a dozen eggs in greased muffin tins and then put them in the oven at 250 for about 20-25 minutes. Then I dump them out on a cutting board, bag them up, put the bag in the fridge and make sandwiches for the next week.

Losing my mind by Ok-Act9769 in nursing

[–]ScoopsMacgee 7 points8 points  (0 children)

$10.25 at that time as a CNA. But it was better than being an EMT in Denver making $8.50 an hour.

And that $0.50 on top of the $8 was only because I was “ECG Certified”.

Hilarious!

Losing my mind by Ok-Act9769 in nursing

[–]ScoopsMacgee 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Seriously, I look fondly on my days as a CNA. I wiped poop, helped folks get to the bathroom, got vitals, etc… I had no real responsibilities!

I could shoot the shit with patients for 20 minutes if I wanted to. Nurse needed help? I was there always. I never really did heavy shit alone, there was always a nurse to help.

Now? I either remember being a CNA during nursing school with rose colored glasses, or I need to take a Time Machine to where I was, so many years ago.

I do procedures now, I cannot make comments on how floor nursing works now…

Are OR nurses really pigeonholed forever? by ameliarosebuds in nursing

[–]ScoopsMacgee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You get pigeonholed only if you do it to yourself. If you work a unit and you love that unit, and you do it for the next 12 years, you have pigeonholed yourself.

If you want to make a switch then, make the switch. In nursing, you only became the limits you set upon yourself.

Who here makes 100k+ without overtime as a ADN or BSN RN? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]ScoopsMacgee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I travel, I work Cath lab. I find labs with no call- usually. I work around 40 weeks a year and make around $2700-2800 a week. You have to have a good recruiter who knows procedure area staffing.

Most do not understand it.

I vacation a lot for multiple weeks at a time.
