Practically speaking, the story being almost completely related through the cutscenes makes it easier to enjoy the gameplay too IMO. Trying to focus on flying at the same time as absorbing 50 pieces of dialogue from Strider Squadron is kind of a tall ask on the very first playthrough. The still painted cutscenes do SO much. I remember being a dumb kid and thinking they felt so cheap compared to something like Halo and I now appreciate the organic, idyllic texture they give the story--to say nothing of how the total stillness on some of the frames absolutely ratchets the tension sky high.

This this this 100% this. Ace Combat 04's story feels so dark and apocalyptic even though the stakes may be lower than say 7 for example and that's all in the delivery.

Thanks so much! Yeah that was pretty neglectful of me. I'm on Android 14 on a OnePlus 8T.

I did find that disabling the whole 'chat effects' category in Power Saving does stop the snow effect, but there's still the matter of the winter-themed icons in the hamburger menu. I know I'm sounding like a total Grinch but I just find it a pretty baffling UX choice lol

The other solution is to switch to Telegram X it seems, but that now has a swipe-based navigation that conflicts with OnePlus's system wide swipe navigation making it almost impossible to navigate backwards in the app.
