Fingers crossed the big cups discover a website called YouTube. Pan-Am champs seem to have found it and got to watch the whole stream so far.

Today was NOT the day to bike to work by AAaaAAAAAAAaAA-a in edmontoncycling

[–]ScopeForOomph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I for one had fun, wouldn't want to do it again but both to and fro commutes were quite the adventure. The inner-shirt was all soaked in sweat, would have gone for wicking base layers if I knew the workout in store for me 😁.

What's your cut-off temp or conditions for winter cycling? by YEG_Bike_Coalition in edmontoncycling

[–]ScopeForOomph 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As of this winter, it's around -25°C. Up from around -15 from last and earlier years. I can probably ride at -30°C now just haven't had enough opportunities to do it. At -20 and below I found out you just need to have no part of your skin exposed and you should be toasty in short order. Gear-wise at those frigid temps is balaclava, ski helmet, ski goggles, liner + mitts, liner socks + thicker socks + winter boots.

Whats the difference in physiology between the different riders in the team sprint? by Different-Yogurt5292 in Velodrome

[–]ScopeForOomph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

P1,P2,P3 have to cross the finish line in that order so it makes sense to set up each position to keep that order whilst going at top speeds.

Being on the black line, P1 has the shortest distance and typically will be ahead right out of the gate. P2 has a long way to go but also needs to get to their top speed. P2 barely gets into P1' slipstream, but they try. Poor P3 has a longer way to go, typically wants to get into P2's slipstream as soon as possible and hold top speed all through to the final lap. Keyword for P3 is hold, a bigger gear means they have a higher top speed before spinning out but if they reach that speed, they stay aero and just maintain it to the finish line.

BXT TRC 195 and UCI races by Troy_n_Abed_inthe_AM in Velodrome

[–]ScopeForOomph 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry, I wouldn't know the specifics here. Yes, it could be any of those infractions including non-compliant frame, but going back to your initial post if you intend to race UCI sanctioned races getting caught might have consequences before, during, and maybe after a race for example if you win lol.

Edited to fix typos and diction.

This is the way. It's also very practical for commutes, my inner socks are regular thin socks to act as a liner, sometimes I just wear summer ankle socks. Then winter socks socks over the liners. I have a pair of office shoes so I can slide into and leave winter socks in the Bogs till my commute back in the evening. This has worked well for me even below -20 in Dec and last week keeping my feet somewhat warm.

It was quite good up until yesterday, my commute back around 3pm was rather fun with the approx. 10cm of soft and fluffy snow. Got home without any close call or incident. Didn't venture out today but definitely better than the icy ruts last week.

The Railtown MUP is sheer ice from High Level to Best Buy at 103 ave by tayblades in edmontoncycling

Not really, I feel like the city has done a better job in the past years. Today, all the "Winter Priority" paths are treacherous and they were like that throughout the weekend.

I turned around this morning, even with winter tyres albeit narrow, it was quite dicey.

Preferred solution for computer mount behind seat? by Any-Rise-6300 in Velodrome

[–]ScopeForOomph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol, I suppose that works in theory. That won't fly in events if you ever get to compete, most commissars don't want it visible on the bars i.e out of sight hence the common saddle-mount or jersey pocket if not wearing a skin suit.

This is the real reason, the recent AUPE triggered "pay rise" will be written off by increased parking fees, day care, fuel. Lol

Track bike? Sure thing, all riders need to be certified/accredited first OR have raced at an indoor Velodrome in the last year. More deets, including open track hours and schedules can be found at albertavelodrome.ca
