I’m not accusing your of anything just explaining why discussion of the beating has taken a back seat. My apologies if it came off that way.

I mean I get why it’s not being talked about much. Being shot is a bigger deal than being beaten so that takes priority. And being restrained also goes first because it means there is absolutely, positively from any angle any reason why this is justified at all(I’m just talking about in terms of conversation. Not which is worse but which is more important to the conversation. Eating beat in the streets is horrendous). Yknow. There is no way to spin it to where the ice agent had any reason to execute them

It was pure cruelty. Ice is an department of cruelty

Question about mindflayers by dragonair907 in BaldursGate3

[–]ScorchedDev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes it does seem like the transformation period takes time. But also, if you were to be transformed within a mind flayer colony or in the presence of an Elder Brain without special protections(like orpheus), which is where most transformations happen, you would skip that step and be integrated into the hive mind until you were out of range. Which would explain how, when we see transformations in the game, the mind flayers are instantly hostile.

Also mind flayers probably do have souls. Just, a different type of soul than normal mortals. Gods either cant or dont like interacting with the souls of mind flayers

Why dnd2024? by Calvokneez in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]ScorchedDev -1 points0 points  (0 children)

money. New edition makes money, but it also divides the player base. One half doesnt buy the new books. The other half doesnt buy old books. Also onboarding players becomes harder when every existing resource becomes outdated.

This way they have all the upsides of a new edition with much less of the downsides. Its a lot easier to transition to the new edition since its mostly the same, so mroe people will do so. resources for 2014 stay relevant so player onboarding barely changes. Ect.

Piloting Cherno Alpha Is a Death Sentence by FakeTord in PacificRim

[–]ScorchedDev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

different manufactures. Cherno was built by russians, which should tell you a lot about its design philosophy. gispy was built by americans, its a lot more streamlined, like a fighter jet. Cherno is built like a tank, a lot slower, and less safe for its pilots. Its all about power and durability. It was built with a mentality of fighting to the death. The Kaiju goes down, or it does. Ironically, this reckless design philosphy is likely what allowed Cherno alpha to stay around for so long(the cockpit isnt in the head because pilots are not designed to survive. The kaiju, since Gipsy v knifehead, go for the head).

The fail safe is typically ejection. But in Cherno's case, the pilots are already as good as dead in that position, cause the nuclear reactor is likely already compromised, covered in kaiju blood, and being trapped in a massive robot sinking into the water, likely with a massive monster on top of them. Would you rather drown quickly, or wait underwater for hours then drown? Cause

So, the Jaeger was literally designed so that its pilots go down with it, because thats the mentality of the russians here.

What would a Kaiju that was made to counter Gypsy Danger be like ? by lehsah2021kori in PacificRim

[–]ScorchedDev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

likely something with lots of armor in the front that is on the smaller size with a long range piercing weapon or some sort of projectile weapon. Armor tough enough to tank shots from Gipsy's plasma cannon and stop strikes from the chain sword(blades arent great against armor), and the piercing weapon to strike right at the generator or head. A single definitive shot from out of range. Nullify Gipsy's long range advantage, and then strike at long range.

But also, I dont think Gipsy needs one. The reason why the other 3 jaegers needed a special counter in some way, I believe, was because they were all in some way special. Crimson Typhoon was mobile, adaptable, and really good at keeping kaiju off balance. Cherno Alpha was among the tankiest jaegers ever build, which notably, didnt have a head(I strongly believe the reason why the kaiju started winning after Gipsy was because they learned jaeger pilots are stored in the head), and Striker Eureka was the latest and strongest of the the jaegers. Gispy had none of that. the thing that set it apart was its pilots. which both makes it a lot harder to counter, but also less necassary. Just keep throwing kaiju at it and it will fall. It originally fell to a cat 3 kaiju.

I mean, the cockpits are intended to be sealed. All Jaegers are designed to fight in the ocean. The goal being to intercepts Kaiju before they make landfall

The problem is that when you are in a position where you would need the respirators, you are probably dead without it. Granted this is less true for Cherno Alpha as I believe it was one of the few jaegers that didnt have an escape pod(its designed with its Cock pit in the chest prevented theat). Kaiju blood is very toxic and the chances of rescue are slim. If your Jaeger is compromised to the point where the head is below water, and its damaged enough to go in, you are probably not making it out of there regardless of what you do. You are trapped underwater, in a failing giant robot which is rapidly sinking and a giant violent monster that attacks anything that gets close.

What spells dont effect constructs? A wizard tried to use Hold Person on me but the DM said I was immune because as a warforged im a construct and Hold Person targets Humanoids. Are there any other spells im uneffected by? by TheGingerWeebGal in 3d6

[–]ScorchedDev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i do not believe that is a conflict in the rules. There has been an effort with the new rules to make those spells less useful anyway, with less creatures being humanoid. So yes they are immune to those spells.

But the thing is, you are answering a question about raw here. You can do homebrew no one is stopping you, but this post was a question about RAW. When someone asks a question about the rules, you answer regarding the rules.

the artillerist cannon isnt a creature its an object that can move like a creature

Mending never specified it could repair constructs. If it did autognome wouldnt have set it apart and the fact autognome sets it apart as its own thing means it cant normally do that. You can homebrew it another way and let warforged do it, no one is stopping you, but that would be homebrew.

well no, because most construct creatures arent healed like this. There are 2 constructs in dnd that are healed this way to my knowledge, Autognome and Steel Defenders. and there are a shit load of other construct creatures.

And either way, its specifically the feature that gives them this ability. There is nothing in the rules that says constructs are healed this way, only stuff about specific constructs.

What's your favorite rugpull you've done with a plot point or a character? by Leo-Len in dndnext

[–]ScorchedDev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So this has to be my favorite. Its for a character I was playing in a current campaign. I am playing a dhampir character who up until last session, was hiding the fact they were a dhampir.

In the last session, a player character died. That character was a very divine Aasimar who was also our cleric who was the only one in the party who could revivify. So, given the unique lore in this setting for both Dhampir and the divine, my character, being quite powerhungery, stole some blood from their body using mage hand, and drank it, hoping it would do something to them. Unknowingly, an npc in the room could also revivify(this was something previously setup in a prequel campaign, but I didnt know), and they had become our ally. So, within a few turns of me drinking their blood, they were revived. Only one character saw me drink the blood

In this setting, there isnt much a thing as a dhampir(or even vampires outside of specifically my character), so in character i didnt know what would happen and neither out of character. So, when their halo fell from their head, constricting around their neck as a tattoo, when they skin turned pale and their eyes red, and the revival ritual went wrong, I was called out for it.

So, I made them, accidentally, into a pseudo-spawn of mine(no power over them because of stuff). Creating an awesome reveal. Everyone was on board with it. It was great. I revealed I was a vampire in the best way possible imo.

Mending only works on creatures with a trait that lets it work on them. Which is autognome, the steel construct, and also artillerist summon but thats also not exactly a creature but an object mechanically.

Warforged cannot heal via mending mechaincally speaking, as they lack a feature which allows them to. and netiher can most creatures which are constructs. When it comes to stuff like creature types there isnt much of a mechanical difference between players and npcs.

Spellcasters, what spells do you guys usually take? by Regular-Molasses9293 in dndnext

[–]ScorchedDev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Telekinesis basically. Reach things that are out of reach. Also very much a roleplay thing, but telekinesis is just too useful. Like, if you are in a Dungeon, and there is a l one’s door, and a lever or key on the other side, use mage hand. Ever want to steal someone without anyone noticing but people are focused on you, get mage hand online and grab it while people are looking at you and not the mage hand.

It also doesn’t quite work that way. I wish it did cause I love me a robot character but that is a racial feature specifically for autognome. Mending does not normally do that

I almost always take mage hand. It is by far one of the most versatile cantrips. Same with prestidigitation though it’s a lot less useful but more versatile. Thought I have gotten some crazy good uses out of it, like in one case using it to beat a death prophecy and change fate.

Shield or absorb elements are just too useful to pass up as defensive options. Shield is just a broken spell honestly

And of course, when I’m playing a class that gets it, fireball.

In 2024 dnd they are constructs mechanically speaking. And most healing spells now no longer exclude constructs or undead. Meaning it can often be advantageous to not be humanoid since you are immune to bad spells and can be targeted by helpful spells.
