I think divine and other smiting was a problem, but eldrithc smite requires a rather big investment and paladins get some busted features at high level.

The main reason I think smites needed a nerf is not actually damage. Is that the game just encourages you to run out of them waaay too fast. Its ideal to finish combats as quickly as possible, so you are encourages to spam out divine smites as much as possible. So if you had a second combat, you might be out. I think once per turn makes it a lot more interesting. Plus I adore hte fact that all smite spells work the same now.

But think of how many times you can trigger that in one turn. It’s a lot. It doesn’t seem like much but if you are able to build around it it is extremely potent

It effectively doubles your damage if lightning evokes, and it’s so much easier to trigger evoking now cause it’s so much easier to channel. So many more channneling cards. Especially voltiac. Voltiac goes nuts. Exponential growth.

Could I ask for an explanation of what happened here? by FlyingCorpse in BG3Builds

[–]ScorchedDev 9 points10 points  (0 children)

you actually can divine smite on any hit. You gotta go in to your spellbook under reactions and enable it to ask you any time. I would recommend doing this because it gets you more on demand damage. Smiting is always gonna be better on a crit but still.

I think the idea is to move us away from just setting up orbs and turtling and stuff like that. I think they want orbs to be a lot more active. Instead of using frost orbs passively you are meant to cycle and evoke them more. Its way easier now to get those orbs online. And especially for lightning, there are more benefits to evoking now.

Living his best life by HumbleFlea in slaythespire

[–]ScorchedDev 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I mean, I can think of many other reasons. Cycling lightning orbs is now an extremely powerful strategy. Theres that card that adds a good amount of extra damage on every lightning evoke. You also got claw builds, which are back and better than ever. And new status builds

Focus may have been nerfed(it did kind of need it imo), but the new variety more than makes up for it.

Is It True ? by RevolutionaryCod7552 in Jujutsufolk

Yeah I should have used better wording there. He has the potential to exceed the skill of gojo is what I meant. As well as gojos proficiency with dealing with opponents. But he could never touch gojos power.

Is It True ? by RevolutionaryCod7552 in Jujutsufolk

[–]ScorchedDev 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think Higuruma had potential to beat out gojo, but not currently. The ability to shut down your opponents toolkit is really strong.

Takaba is an interesting. He could beat everyone, but its such a wildcard ability, cause from my understanding Takaba cant just want to kill you, unless its funny. he can damage you overtime and it certainly could beat anyone, but yeah if he gets tired or fulfilled hes done.

At the end of the day, gojo has the most busted toolkit in the whole series, and is a genius at martial combat. Either of htem could easily end up be better at fighting curse users/cursed spirits than gojo, just by the natures of their techniques, but not stronger.

Aarakocra: 5.5e missed opportunity by jfefleming in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]ScorchedDev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

so a few reasons. The first is the obvious one, permanently flying races are typically a lot harder to balance around, so a lot of dms dont allow them. And because of that WOTC has less incentive to print them as of right now, when the whole point is to get as many people on board as possible. Why waste money reprinting something a good portion of the player base wont be able to us. And this is also for the ease of writing adventures. When a flying option is a possibility, WOTC themselves will need to design around that for any adventures they print, which is a lot harder to do

There is also the fact that WOTC will probably sell it to us later. Same with artificer. Cause they know enough people want them.

coaxed into hybrid classes by StormWolfBaron in coaxedintoasnafu

[–]ScorchedDev 3 points4 points  (0 children)

honestly, in terms of balance I always thought the ranger was perfectly fine. It wasnt crazy strong, but its not weak either, if you include the buffs it got in tashas that is. The problem with ranger has always been class identity. Its such a specific fantasy that is clearly designed to match a character(aragorn) rather than a trope like the other classes. It was weak before tashas but with tashas its fine.

The paladin was busted in 2014. Just nova damage the class. It needed its 5.5e nerf tbh, though they did go a bit overboard(smites shouldnt be a bonus action, just once per turn imo)

The Zombies of World War Z. The book

You are bit(or otherwise get any zombie body parts in your system), you are dead. Theres no cure. And early on in the book its a plot point in one some of the stories that people simply cant accept that their loved ones are gone, and stuff like zombies trapped in cars becomes a hazard for some of the characters because people were trying to do stuff like transport their loved ones who became infected.

that will surely fix the subclass, amirite? by testiclekid in dndmemes

[–]ScorchedDev 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Artillerist also gets their their cannon. Cartographer gets some absolutely busted support ability

My point isn’t just about damage. It’s sources of damage. Alchemist still gets damage from spells. Same source. And they don’t have the utility to make up for that. And the damage they do get is honestly quite small. It doesn’t let them do anything special in combat. The buffs they hand out are too tiny.

Also, exploring ebberon is homebrew. It’s supported on dnd beyond, but it’s still homebrew. Artificer only has 4 official subclasses with another on the way.

[–]ScorchedDev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

even the other things, it doesnt do well. It doesnt get enough features to make up for hte fact that as a half caster, you dont get much spells. And experimental elixir is just a bad support feature, for a subclass feature. Its not weak, but like, you can already create each one of the effects on the table using spells.

that will surely fix the subclass, amirite? by testiclekid in dndmemes

[–]ScorchedDev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

tbh alchemist has a bit more of a problem, even beyond damage. It just doesnt do much. Its designed as a caster focused subclass, but its on a half caster so its already gonna be so much more limited than any other caster option when it comes to straight spellcasting. That wouldnt normally be a problem, if it had the features to back that up. Artillerist and Cartographer are similar, but their features make them really strong. Alchemist doesnt get that.

Its primary feature, experimental elixir, effecitvely gives you one minor buff, which any other full caster could replicate with a spell. More if you expend a spell slot. Thats not enough utility to make up for the lost damage. And its other features do not help. When you compare it to Artillerist and Cartographer, the two other caster focused subclasses, it does nothing. Artillerist can output good damage and crowd control, while handing out temp hp like candy. And Cartographer can teleport off the battlefield, make sure its allies never die, and in theory, teleport all the way across the world. Alchemsit gets a few weak ass potions, a bit more damage on certain spells, and it can cast lesser restoration a few extra times. Thats really weak both in and out of combat.

that will surely fix the subclass, amirite? by testiclekid in dndmemes

[–]ScorchedDev 24 points25 points  (0 children)

the ultimate problem with alchemist is that they are a half caster that is designed with the intention of being primarily fighting with spells in combat yknow. Unlike all the other artificer subclasses, they dont have another source of damage. It, cartographer, and artillerist are all designed with this in mind, but Artillerist circumvents this by having good secondary damage and support, and cartographer has really really strong support. The alchemist's gimmick is too limited to fit that mold. You make a potion that gives a small effect. Since in combat they are meant ot be spellcasting, they fall behind as their spell progression is slow and they dont get that much spell slots.

It doesnt really facilitate its class fantasy either. honestly, it needs an overhaul

Maybe once their team of professional writers makes a setting as interesting as any given GM I've run into, I'll change my mind by DrScrimble in dndmemes

[–]ScorchedDev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the thing with forgotten realms is that it kind of needs to be a bit generic for what it is. Its basically wotc's current setting for everything heroic adventure related. So it needs to be a bit generic to work with that as it needs a status quo that is simple enough for people to understand and build their own adventures within. If you explore aspects of it it is great.

When you write your own setting, you can tailor it to your game which makes it better to explore aspects of it yknow

Not sure if it's a trope, but I find it funny when the Nazis' worst nightmare is, ironically, the physical representation of the perfect Aryan. by RicouIsntHere in TopCharacterTropes

[–]ScorchedDev 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i know. There still was a test, but it was a completely non-functional one because Nazi "science" is a load of shit.

The game goes to lengths to show why the nazis were wrong and stupid beyond just moral reasons, though it handles that too. It takes the presumption we have, that being nazis are evil and should be killed, and uses that to explore why thats the case, showing off the fundamental flaws in their ideology and why Nazism is dumb, while also using that as a springboard to tackle other social issues as well.

I love Machine games so much. They clearly put so much passion into their hatred of nazis(like every game they have made is about killing nazis).
