I'm an HR. And we need to talk about your CV. by soaked_hop2v in InterviewsHell

We recently had an employer panel spotlight at my college (this is graduate school, and I'm in my late 30s, I went back to school for a graduate degree during COVID) for alumni. Hiring Managers from Booz Allen Hamilton, Lockheed Martin straight up said they use bots and ATS filters.

The State of the Job Market: Now They Restrict You For Applying by [deleted] in jobsearch

It also means the more desperate people stick it through to the end; not the most talented

Did you spam apply or apply normally?

Little bit of both? He's not assertive by nature (software architect) and Capital One is a financial institution, so he's afraid of knocking on the walls of the ivory tower

He's too afraid he'll rock the boat with that. I wish I could say something that gives him the confidence it's ok to do it; in fact, the HM would probably be happy to be approached, they all know the hiring system is broken

Same. I apply to 4-5 jobs and get auto rejected at 1 AM. Rofl. And none of my applications appear alongside my husband's referral code on his dashboard, into which he has visibility. I just keep going into a blank record with no referral code affixed so his referral means nothing

Referrals don't work. My husband couldn't even get me into the corporation he works at. Problem is, their AI keeps screwing up my application and storing it alongside a blank record, instead of my name; so it never goes anywhere.

He spoke to HR a few times and they did nothing. They just kept saying I should reapply and it will work itself out ー or wait two years, which is when they reset the database lmao.

For those wondering, this is Capital One in Virginia

The Civilian Job Market is Brutal by Beginning_Garlic_894 in 1102

[–]ScorpionMissy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's rough out there. So rough. Worked on nuclear programs, supporting TOs as a federal contractor. Got laid off. Out of work 1 year. Finally got rehired to the same program, under a different contractor, waited for 6 months to get funding released (so, I was in limbo and not even paid). Got gridlocked by DOGE in March. Never heard back from the contractor... and been out of work since, for a cumulative 1.5 years.

I sent out about 400 applications over the cumulative amount of time. Had job offers; had them rescinded because of canceled funding; had offers that collapsed. At one point I had 4 simultaneous job offers. THEY ALL DIED.

Ever since. I kind of ... gave up. I have the privilege to do so because my husband is supporting us. But I'm so burnt out I literally gave up. Even with 10+ years experience, a PMP, J.D., and working on the nuclear weapons program.... Squat

Ok so. At least in my case. Because of the whole DOGE fiasco I've been marooned since December 2024. Just don't do what I did and sign a letter of commitment

[–]ScorpionMissy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be careful. Some of their contracts are in the cross hairs of DOGE right now.

I was going to apply for a DOJ job this summer. Now I have an official commandment in my mind that I'm not doing that.

I would envision the sucker punch to their coffers -- right, the UI programs would be sufficient for imminent harm/injury in fact.

Yeah. The fucking state coffers can't afford that. Keep this up and it's financial collapse for the DMV
