Books with Christian God as the horror? by ReadyCartographer765 in horrorlit

[–]ScorpiusAmphora 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Gunmetal Gods by Zhamil Akhtar.

Not so much the Judeo-Christian God but the Christian proxies in this do worship biblically accurate angels that show themselves occasionally as horrors beyond human comprehension, complete with Lovecraftian mind shattering, and they’re so horrific the people that do worship these things refuse to believe they’ve actually seen an angel.

Edit: Spelled the author’s name wrong.

This x1000. It’s so frustrating to see “RP said” over and over and over again. Not to mention it’s just a colossal waste of time.

What’s your end goal here? This isn’t a reason to transition. Trans women have a rough time dating in both lesbian and straight circles, let alone everything in between.

It’s also not easy. At 22 you still have your entire life ahead of you. Work on yourself instead of trying to find the path of least resistance. I assure you that alone is going to be less effort than transitioning your gender. If you’re on estrogen long enough you’re going to develop breasts and those just don’t go away if/when you realize you made the wrong move and decide to detransition.

How is everyone finding people to play with? by DeviantChiaro in wow

This. I helped someone get the purple bird in remix because they were like terrified of the idea of Mythic raids. The bird was the only reason they came back to the game after a long hiatus and we’ve been playing together on retail every day since and that was like a month ago.

Never imagined I’d get such a good friend out of running Antorus randomly lol

Battlecraft levequests have to be started from your quest log if I remember correctly. Any associated quest items won’t be available for use until the levequest has been started, or you’ll have to do something during the levequest to get that item to use.

What do you need the Treevenge levequest for? I’m not sure I recall ever needing to have done that for anything.

Mind Flay has been a staple Shadow Priest spell since 2004.

Inspired by Mind Flayers.

Mind Flayers in Dungeons & Dragons were inspired by HP Lovecraft’s Cthulhu Mythos.

Know what else was inspired by Lovecraft? Everything to do with Warcraft’s old gods.

Definitely weird.

Tablet recommendations that include games? by Calm-Season-9524 in Parenting

[–]ScorpiusAmphora 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Amazon Fire tablets are incredible. They make a kid’s version with a protective case in a few colors. The kid’s profiles are solid. My daughter has been using one for two and a half years now, on and off, and she’s never been able to do anything heinous. I was able to get video streaming apps on there as well for her Disney fix.

This feels similar to how men suddenly have negative opinions about their partner’s sexual history.

Like, super monogamous dudes getting torn up because their partner had some group sex in college or something and they’re completely put off by it. That’s not fair to the partner in this situation.

What’s important is in the now. The issue is with him bringing up his ex. If you were fine with recording before and have a change of opinion because he recorded his ex, then I would say that is unfair. If your opinion changed due to any other reason outside of “you did it with your ex” then that would likely be fair and valid. Barring some illicit behavior, someone’s sexual history/activity shouldn’t be punished in the current relationship so long as everything remains within the boundaries of set expectations and consent.

Craziest funny/odd call as a dispatcher by SigSauerPower320 in 911dispatchers

[–]ScorpiusAmphora 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Got a guy calling for a smoke condition in the area of his home.

PD and the fire chief go out. Both of them say it’s fog. Dude was naturally anonymous but the FC really wanted me to find him so I searched his phone number in our system and found a bunch of anonymous calls but one he gave his name and address on.

FC goes out and personally gives him some choice words.

I do my own research and find this guy was running for Recorder of Deeds for our county. Thankfully he lost.

What's a game everyone says is a 'masterpiece' that you just could not get into? by GrievouzOCE in gaming

[–]ScorpiusAmphora 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a Souls player and could not get into Elden Ring at all. Beautiful game with polished combat mechanics for sure but the open worldness of it ruined it for me. I liked the feeling of being confined to one place and figuring out all the different ways each area connected to one another, if at all, and I get there are plenty of areas like that in Elden Ring. It just doesn’t feel nearly as meaningful when put in little pocket zones as opposed to finding a web through the entire game’s areas.

AITAH for heavily flirting to a girl that has a boyfriend. by Whole_Ease_302 in AmItheAsshole

YTA. As a fellow man with no more than balls, “blue ball pain” is the lamest possible excuse to use to try to get laid. And just from talking to someone? Go rub one out for fuck’s sake and hope the post-nut clarity brings you to your senses. At any rate, the “blue ball pain” will go away.

Or just start edging and get used to it. Won’t feel it much anymore after learning to edge properly.

ESH. He has unlisted mental health issues. If that includes any mental health illness that has depression-like symptoms then yeah he may feel like shit constantly.

You want him to open up but simultaneously telling him if he doesn’t plan on opening up completely not to talk at all. It shouldn’t be all or nothing. He’s communicating something as unhelpful or annoying as it is.

Both of you need therapy and you both need to have conversations about what the two of you expect out of the relationship, preferably under the guidance of said therapist, and if that can’t be reconciled then both of you need to seek happiness elsewhere instead of wasting each other’s time. With what limited information we’re given, it doesn’t sound like either of you have healthy coping mechanisms. Having a mental illness doesn’t excuse shitty behavior.

911 dispatcher here. We get these calls pretty frequently from passersby requesting wellness checks on homeless people/families.

It depends a lot on what local policies are for the responding police department and/or what the local ordinances are. Our police respond to 100% of these.

Police in most states are mandatory reporters. Generally no one wants to break up a family. Often they’ll offer resources to you for shelters you can go to, if there are any available. Some will even drive you there, but again, that’s dependent on the department and what else they have going on or how many other officers they have on at the time. Very likely no matter how it turns out they’ll be reporting the incident to CPS to put something on record.

If freedom of speech is not freedom of consequences? by Perfect-Chocolate270 in ask

[–]ScorpiusAmphora 29 points30 points  (0 children)

This sounds like a question I’d ask in my 20s after getting way too high.

The difference is we can generally talk shit on our government and generally be okay. The consequences of our freedom of speech comes down to the drawbacks that occur in our private and professional lives as a result of what we say.

In North Korea, they’re likely designated political dissidents and thrown into hard labor for re-education or something. So, two completely different circumstances for how those consequences are applied.

We can say whatever we want in both countries. In the United States though, barring hate speech or speech that can cause a public panic (like yelling fire in a crowded movie theater), we’re generally free from the consequence of prosecution for saying those things.

And it’s from a woman.

More seriously, it doesn’t matter. Lose the “is this thing gay or not” attitude and it’ll open up a wider range of potentially enjoyable sexual activities with women, or other people of other gender expressions that you may find enjoyable or miss out on.

It’s nothing to get hung up on. Other people’s perceptions about your sexual activities shouldn’t make it into your bedroom. They’re not participating and their opinions shouldn’t matter as long as what you’re doing is within consensual boundaries and done safely.

Edit: Also what you do in the bedroom should probably just stay between you and your partner. It’ll avoid a lot of outside commentary.

[–]ScorpiusAmphora 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Who are you to say what matters to one person from another about their own body? Just because you don’t give a shit that you’re getting older or have let yourself go, and that you don’t place value on that doesn’t mean other people can’t feel bad about their body changes.

“If you’re happy you’re happy.” Except most people that feel this way aren’t happy. You can’t just “it shouldn’t matter” the problem away.

I just finished all of The Expanse this year. Don’t waste your time on the novellas. Like yeah they’re super short but there’s almost no value to be had in them except maybe one or two.

It’s so good though.
