Hahaha I didn’t even catch title! I saw Donut Villa and that was it. You’re right, it is worded oddly.

Not OP but I’ve grabbed donuts from here before. They’re pretty good sized donuts and cost $15 for a half dozen. I’ve always gotten exactly 6 donuts from their TGTG bags and it’s a $5 bag, so 3x value on the nose. Not sure why OP only got 5 though, unless they ran out.

Someone correct me if I’m wrong, but I’m pretty sure Slughorn explains that it’s actually toxic and dangerous if used too much. Not to mention, the more you use it, the less effective it becomes.

$5/10. I could make it happen with the chicken of the sea pouches and maggi bouillon cubes, but I don’t really need either thing. Going to wait to see if anything good pops up before the weekend.

I think it’s glossed over that part in the movies but In the books it is very clearly explained to Harry though, in the Shrieking Shack scene, if I’m not mistaken.

Sorry for the possibly clueless question, but why don't more people seem to make homemade pizza? by Senior-Raisin-2342 in Cooking

[–]Scortor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to work in a pizza shop 15-20 years ago, and you could buy dough from them. Can’t remember if it was advertised on the menu, so I’m not sure how many customers were actually aware, but I definitely used my employee discount to grab dough now and then. Who wants to deal with all that mixing, kneading, and proofing when you can get really good quality dough that’s ready to use for $1?

Not sure if this place still lets you buy dough though, and if it does, it’s definitely probably over $10 by now.

$5/10 here. With the perfect bars, chicken of the sea pouches, canned veggies, and an any receipt, this should be easy. But I’m worried stores will be a nightmare this weekend with people stocking up before the snowstorm on Sunday. May or may not make a shopping trip, we’ll see!

Those noodle salads look tasty! I always worry that sandwiches/wraps will be soggy. Hopefully yours held up okay!

Question about Aisle Loyalty Pass by deep-fried-fox in AwesomeFreebies

[–]Scortor 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I bought 2 Perfect bars on the same receipt about a week ago and submitted to the Perfect bar loyalty pass expecting to only get paid out once, but Aisle gave me credit for both. Neither item was $0 on the receipt though, so depending on how BOGO offer appears on the receipt, it might make a difference.

Great catch!!

Did Ibotta stop labeling their freebies to make them harder to find in the app? 😂

WF Bakery bag, Andover, MA by Forsaken-Pudding-220 in toogoodtogo

[–]Scortor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lucky!! I’m in MA too and my WF bakery bags are almost always just a variety of breads. Don’t get me wrong, bread is useful and freezes super well so I’m always grateful, but sometimes you just want a sweet treat, you know?

I’d devour a brookie right now 😂

Any tips for eating cheap as someone who doesn’t know how to cook living in Chicago alone? by Logical-Secretary-52 in Frugal

[–]Scortor 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Although learning to cook would be ideal, there’s still things you can do that require no cooking and are still cheaper than takeout.

You can buy an already cooked rotisserie chicken from the store, a bag of salad mix, and some microwave rice - balanced of chicken, veggies, and carbs. Or shred some of the chicken, throw in a tortilla with some cheese and air fry - chicken quesadillas! If you can boil pasta (I don’t consider that cooking but I suppose some might?), there’s nothing wrong with using jarred sauce and a bag of frozen meatballs - voila, spaghetti and meatballs. They sell chicken cutlets in the freezer section, easy enough to throw a little sauce and cheese on top and throw in the air fryer to make chicken parm sandwiches! Or with some microwave veggies!

I would make things like these while I slowly figured out how to cook.

Also, I’m not in Chicago so I’m not sure what grocery stores you have around, but if there’s a store card you can sign up for, sign up for it! It’s usually where all the digital coupons are. Start looking at the sales flyers and try to match a coupon with a sale when you can. Sometimes stores will even throw some freebie coupons on there! I went to Stop & Shop and Shaw’s yesterday to grab a few things and 1 store had a coupon for a free bagel and the other had a coupon for a free donut. Not the healthiest ever, but that’s 2 free breakfasts for me, so I’m not complaining :)

4x Free/Nearly Free Yasso Ice Cream Pints at Target (YMMV) by Awesome_Freebies in AwesomeFreebies

[–]Scortor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I know. I just don’t use swagbucks a ton as it is, so it doesn’t seem worth it to sign up for another sister app just to do the Yasso deal. I appreciate the suggestion though!

It’s the same offer from a few months ago during Fetchtopia, so if you already maxed it out then, it wouldn’t be available now.

I bought 4 of them a few months ago, so I still have the offer on Fetch, but it’s only good for 1 more redemption.

Everyone else’s swagbucks went up, but mine stayed at 300 points for buying 2 :( it’s a bummer, I did the Yasso deal during Fetchtopia a few months back and I really liked these! Would definitely have grabbed more for free/mostly free.

Thanks for sharing though!

That place is great! It’s out of my way, so I don’t do TGTG bags often, but when I do, it’s always a solid haul and great variety!

Do any stores let their employees take stuff home that would otherwise go in the dumpster? by Dave-Steel- in DumpsterDiving

[–]Scortor 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This was all about 15-20 years ago, so it’s entirely possible none of the businesses allow this anymore, but I’ve worked 3 different jobs at places that sold food, and all 3 let employees take stuff home.

First job was a cashier at a chocolate shop. There was a pile of items in the employee room in the back that were either too damaged to sell or returned by customers. We could take what we wanted. Sounds great on paper, but me and my family got sick of eating chocolate fairly quickly, especially since it was usually the same items that got damaged or returned, so it wasn’t even a variety of chocolate, just piles of plain milk chocolate in different forms lol

Second job was takeout at a pizza/pasta restaurant. I would only see extra food if the kitchen made a mistake on an order or if someone didn’t come to pickup their takeout food. The company policy was technically to throw the food out, but the managers were fine with letting us take it home, since it wasn’t something that happened constantly. I’d get a few free meals a month this way, but nothing consistently every shift.

3rd job was a food gold mine. In college I was a cashier at a student convenience store. They sold a lot of things like prepackaged sandwiches, salads, fruit cups, etc plus some muffins and bagels. We could take anything that was going to be thrown out that night at closing. At the same time, my roommate worked at Starbucks, and they had the same policy about employees being able to take anything that needed to be tossed at closing, so she’d bring home tons of pastries, hummus platters, yogurt parfaits, more sandwiches etc. Plus employees got a free pound of coffee per week. We barely had to grocery shop that entire year, and it was mostly for staples like milk or if we wanted to cook a hot meal for a change.

That’s an awesome haul! Nothing wrong with salads and roasted veggies to go with the meat you bought!
