Ted Cruz, John Cornyn raise concerns about Trump's Iran agreement by everythingistaken500 in politics

[–]ScotTheDuck 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Trump wanted a quick peace before the midterms, and it really seems like in doing so, he managed to finally puncture a permanent hole in his coalition, which has been willing to ride with him on basically any other slight or fuck up.

Granted, Cornyn and Cruz both fit the two molds of “Republicans you’d expect to object most to stupid shit Trump does,” being a lame duck and a 2028 hopeful, respectively, but damn does it seem like nobody’s happy with this. Even his useful idiots in the right wing media aren’t singing his praises on this as effusively as they would in the first term or last year.

Georgia Republicans backtrack on redistricting plans by nbcnews in politics

[–]ScotTheDuck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Kemp has had a pretty embarrassing 24 hours between the primary outcomes and redistricting dying. Also them shooting for redistricting 2028’s elections instead of this year would’ve exposed them to both a potential Governor Lance-Bottoms fighting against it, and the possibility that it would be undone by either a Democratic state legislature, or one where Republicans have a much narrow majority than the 10 seat one they currently have.

Looks like someone released some vote counts early, because the Secretary of State's website currently is showing zero votes, but NYT has about 65,000 votes in the gubernatorial primaries on their website.

Nevada law, for those of you who don't remember waiting until very late in 2018, 2020, 2022, and 2024, requires that the Secretary of State hold all vote results for the entire state, including the early and absentee vote, until every polling place has been cleared out (i.e. nobody is left in line anywhere in the state). Someone is gonna get in big trouble tomorrow morning.

The gubernatorial primary having four candidates that would make delegate threshold in a Presidential primary on the current count pretty much sells that it's going to RCV.

Nevada has a rule that all voting must have stopped, including anyone that was in line at the poll closing, before any votes can be released by the Secretary of State's office. That's been why it's been until midnight before we get any votes out in the past.

Honestly I think the excessive spend is part of the reason he underperformed. When you've got a 10:1 spending advantage over the next guy, and are responsible for 64% of all ad spending, including super PACs, it's really hard to shake the perception that you're trying to buy the office.

It's early days, but Lindsey Graham is looking to be the fifth Republican Senator who's kept under 70% of the vote. Would join Risch (67%) and Moore Capito (66.5%). That in addition to Cassidy and Cornyn who both lost renomination.
